Movie Reviews of Zaion - Epidemic (Vol. 1)Movie Review: heart over mecha Summary: 4 Stars
All characters in this anime are two-dimensional paper dolls, and Stormwaltz tart description of the young lovers is not undeserved.
Evens so they are, in my own humble opinion, a refreshing change from the usual lecherous-cretin-meets-overendowed-bimbo(es) themes.
Hey, call me a mushy old fart, but I am still a sucker for purehearted young love. The fourth episode did not leave my eyes dry. Snif. Sorry.
Movie Review: A lover of mecha anime Summary: 4 Stars
I first came across this anime whilst looking for somthing else. Zaion looked pretty interesting at first glance so I decided to buy it. it came a few days later and turned out to be everything i expected it to be a pretty good basic mecha anime. although it didn't really prove to be anything special it did impress me and don't be put off that its short,it just means everything happens faster.
Movie Review: STIFF MONSTERS ATTACK! Summary: 2 Stars
Unknown to most civilians, an alien virus known as M34 is beginning to spread across the world from a meteorite. When humans are exposed to it, they turn into what looks a cross between a Neanderthal and a tree stump, with all the speed and agility that implies, and I mean that sarcastically. A special team of warriors known as the NOA are the first line of defense against the infection spreading. They have tiny nanotech robots inside their bodies which they can use to form armor around themselves which gives them superstrength and also insulates them from M34. That is until now, because one of the NOA, Yuuji Tamiya has been infected by a new strain. And on top of that, M34 monsters are now able to combine into a massive super skyscraper size creature. If only the military's new weapon, an innocent and shy young girl, is ready to combat it in time!
I was expecting a lot more from this series because it bears the Gonzo stamp. Everything about the design of this show is boring and unimaginative. The look of the creatures, the dullness of the NOA suits, the poor blend of CGI, all contribute to a show lacking an identity. The sad thing is that there a lot of extras from the creators of the show and you can tell they really believed in the concepts here. I'm sorry, but the battles either were as exciting as a turtle fighting a sloth or Godzilla fighting a soccer mom. It just didn't work for me. The only thing I liked about the show was the cover of the DVD. I will not view the second disk for the other two episodes of this series.
Movie Review: Studio Gonzo slumming Summary: 2 Stars
This schizophrenic four-part "original web animation" could never decide whether it wanted to be a sci-fi action series about nanotechnology and comet-borne alien viruses, or a romance between two young people. The point is likely moot, as both stories fail.
The virus changes people into the usual mutant monsters fought using improbably advanced nanoengineered soldiers and holography. Thrilling. The two lovers are entirely unappealing. The boy's "character" is to smolder with generic rage all the time. At least he's one up on the girl, who has all the personality of a glass of room temperature tap water.
What buzz the series had I can only attribute to Studio Gonzo's aggressive marketing of this unremarkable lemon. All I can give it props for is a bold soundtrack choice, with Kenji Kawai employing 70's style progressive rock.
Movie Review: dull Summary: 1 Stars
Pretty much all mecha anime cliches with little new. There are some nice touches here and there, but you're better off watching Gasaraki instead.
