Movie Reviews of Yusuf's Cafe SessionMovie Review: Mesmerizing Music for the Soul Summary: 5 Stars
I always counted myself as one of the lucky few who got to see Cat Stevens live. It was a magical experience I will never forget, right down to his breaking a string during "Changes IV." It was a major musical loss for me when he left his career to explore his spritual self. His music had always had its spiritual side and had always been an inspiration. Still, I never fully understood that journey until this dvd was released. The BBC documentary spells it out so clearly that it makes you feel as if you went with him. Yusuf's version of "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" on An Other Cup was haunting in its truthful plea. Now, we truly can finally understand him. And that's to say nothing of the music. He is as spectacular as ever, with a God-given voice and humility which surpasses any other artist. He performs his songs, both old and new, with the ease of an artist who has truly found himself. Truth be known, this actually brought tears to my eyes. I love this man; I love this music; I love this dvd. I am so grateful that he is able to share his gift with us again. Catch this while you can. It is absolutely amazing.
Movie Review: the CAT is BACK!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This is just about perfect....a wonderful concert filmed with taste and style..performed by the great Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam) with panache and exquisite musicianship...just lovely. Their is also a BONUS 1hr BBC documentary on this amazing singer/songwriter.
AND..if that isn't enough for your $15...another section of the DVD has a 15 minute making of for his latest album and its really terrific. It also has a couple of beautifully filmed videos for his new songs and Cat/Yusuf sits on a couch with a nylon string guitar and plays solo versions of Peace Train and Midday....and Where do the Children Play?...wow what an embarrasment of riches..allmost 3 hours of glorious music!!! This is a perfect companion to the existing film from 1976 Majikat...just 30 years later!!! I can't stress enough the quality of the production...its just filmed stunningly beautifully...first class in every way and on top of it...Cat/Yusuf emerges as one of the kindest souls to walk the planet and most talented as well...

Movie Review: BACK TO THE FUTURE!!! MARVELOUS PRODUCTION! Summary: 5 Stars
I have ordered the DVD as I am a Cat Stevens fan. I have heard that he was back to music again after so many years, and I wanted to see it with my own eyes. Almost everyday we play the DVD as my toddler son likes to dance to the tunes. His voice is almost unchanged. I liked his new songs, they are original, meaningful and fun. It is not hard to notice that his song lyrics carry more of a humanistic and a pious mission. The DVD has two sections: a live performance session in London, and a documentary. I saw that Paul McCartney was also among the audience, they must have a good friendship in the past I suppose! Anyways, the DVD is extremely well prepared, I enjoyed the documentary section where you watch the extremely interesting life story of Cat Stevens-Yusuf Islam. If I am not mistaken it is a BBC production. I recommend this DVD to both Cat Stevens and Yusuf Islam fans. Dear Mr. Islam, I am looking forward to your new songs like the ones in this one! Thank you!
Movie Review: Distilled essence of the man Summary: 5 Stars
What a heartful and warm experience this concert shares! Anyone (everyone!!) who loved the Cat of the Tillerman, et al, era will be delighted to see and hear the old and new songs that Yusuf presents here. A wonderful sonic palette from a largish band brings it way more alive than the new studio CD would suggest; it's especially great to see his guitar sidekick, nearly anonymous but at his side through all the years of his solo success, as shared in the video archives that also add a lot to this package as part of a solid, just-the-right-length documentary that begins in the Wild London of the Floyd, sheds light on Yusuf's major role in UK Islam community, and brings us to the point where he decided to pick up the old guitar once more. Add this to your collection; you'll be glad it's there for years to come.
