Movie Review: a must have!
Summary: 5 Stars
I've used this program for my 3yr old son (when he was 1) and now my 1yr old son. It's worked great! By 6wks into it my first son was reading 6 words, and my younger son was reading 3wks after starting it. My 3yr old has been reading on his own since before his 3rd birthday. I thought the product was a hoax but we got it as a gift and I've been eating my words ever since. I've had 4 friends buy it after seeing my son's success. You have to put the time into doing the books and cards with your kids multiple times a day, if you put the time into it you'll see results. I have a friend who didn't follow the guidelines, there was therefore not enough reinforcement and there wasn't as good results. The books and cards are great to show the written word, with the spoken word. There's great ideas included of how to continue teaching this while using other children's books. The DVD is a supplement that gives songs, rhymes, actions, and objects with words to further introduce the above to your kids with the written word. Of course it starts out as memorizing, but after it's in their mind and when they grow a little, they are able to piece it all together- it's helped my son want to learn the alphabet at 16mos old, then learn the phonics, and now he reads! It's all in the time you give with your child. Keeping them interested, playing games with it, incorporating actions, toys, songs. I'm shocked at the negative reviews out there. I think the people reviewing this way either have never used the program, have misconceptions about what it is or what's involved for the parents and child, or didn't put the time in as directed and got no results. Then there's some who think it's "bad" for a child to learn to read so young... are these the parents who want all kids to be socialist and learning on the "same level", (they probably also don't urge their child to be out of diapers by 4ys old). Why is it that a child can be "normal", or hey it's even okay to be a little "slow", but you're a freak if you excel? Well, here we are with two smart "freaky" kids, reading great, loving books, loving learning, with clear speech and great vocabulary, and great confidence. Why not give your kid more if that's what you and they crave? Why not let them learn when it's fun and easier to accomplish with no pressure? It may not be for everyone, but it can work wonders if you reap what you sow.
