Movie Reviews of Yes - Yessongs

Movie Review: Awesome - a young Yes in full form
Summary: 5 Stars

Spectacular. Don't listen to tepid ratings. Excellent original executions of the tunes here, very fresh as the tunes have been recently written and published before the concert (i.e. last couple years before the concert).

These musicians' playing is excellent, and their composition is hard to believe - it's hard to believe they just up and created all this material themselves, out of thin air. Pink Floyd was great, and Genesis was great, but could they keep up with these fellows? I think not!

If you appreciate Yes, you ought to have this early taping of Yes when they're all young and their era is young, and everything is new and fresh and excellent.

Movie Review: Awesome DVD !
Summary: 5 Stars

A great work of art to be viewed, shared, and placed in a time capsule... oh wait a minute, that won't be necessary as this
concert footage has been restored and archived onto DVD.
Any fan of the old YES, [no offense to the newer 80's YES music]
should get this DVD while they can. Although i have only just recently seen them [Anderson, Wakeman, Howe, Squire, White] in concert, I now have a better grasp of what their live shows were like when that classic music of theirs was still fresh. Great camera work.. it almost qualifies as a guitar lesson with Steve Howe.

I first saw this film at a Saturday midnight showing. Early 70's. The sound is not great per 21st century standards for sure. But I think it is as good as it was then. The film does indeed have a "scratchy" feel to it. But in my opinion it adds to it's character.

Steve Howe is the star of the show. Rick Wakeman is a close second. All of the members perform expertly at thier individual instruments or vocals.

This is a must have for any die hard Yes fan or for anyone who's just starting to "get into" this great band.

Movie Review: Brilliant unabashed artistry
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great movie. I can remember seeing this many years ago, more than once. Starship Trooper is not in its entirety, only get small pieces, tastes at the end. Obviously an editing issue. I would guess that even in 1973 they had to cut "something", had to keep it commercial for the low attention span masses and their money. Other than that I have zero criticisms because it is very true to the performance. The camera work is fine, the amoebaes and fly-traps are fine, the capes are fine, and And You And I is great.

Movie Review: Yes is just touring on this show
Summary: 5 Stars

It is obvious that this video was not planned.

If you read any yes books they say they came in and just recorded one of our Yesshows. This is it. Yes at their best in 73.

They are not trying to impress anyone like on MTV, they are playing a concert.

This movie captures Yes the way they were before they got real big and started touring Stadiums. A real Treasure to have.

The sound and picture is ok, but it was 1973. Enjoy the moment for what it was, a Yesshow in 1973. Rob S.
