Movie Reviews of Yellow SubmarineMovie Review: ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE!!! Summary: 5 Stars
Movie Review: WOW!!! Pepperland on DVD. A visual and aural assault! Summary: 5 Stars
What a creative movie! If you have any interest in the Beatles, you should see (buy) this DVD and hear many songs from the best record album ever made, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. The "special features" allows you to select various listening options, including "original mono." I believe I read that the movie was originally mono, but you'd never know it! The Dolby Digital 5.1 option is as good as most productions created today. You can tell it's not an original digital *recording,* but this is no lame "Dolby Digital" mix. This is the real deal. Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds is awesome, with perfect surround information, along with glorious color (as it should be). You'll find a lot of off-camera imaging too; much like A Bug's Life. I enjoyed several little bits of sarcasm in the movie, such as: "He's so smart, he can't remember what he knows." It's a winner!
Movie Review: TIMELESS! Summary: 5 Stars
It's kind of funny how people diminish certain works only by the lack of knowing It. People have to be aware that this cartoon is supposed to look outdated as It has almost 40 years! At the time of Its release, It was artsy and at the same time fun. I remember Ringo Starr saying that up to today children stop him on the srteets to ask ''Why did you push the red button?'' This is what makes Beatle stuff so great, they are timeless and unique. Then in the 70s, The Jacksons tried to imitate the Beatles by launching a poorly written cartoon, trying to look and sound like the fabfour......It never took off, of course. Another great adition to ths is release, is the complete remastering masterpiece that was made, the separation sounds better than ever, so does the stereo, 1.000 times better than the official 1987 release. Even today, your children will love this one, If you find It, buy It, you won't regret It.
Movie Review: Excellent Restoration -- (with one small complaint) Summary: 5 Stars
As others have said, the sound on this dvd is incredible. The picture quality as well. One little quibble -- although a few have mentioned the removal of "Baby You're A Rich Man", the few seconds missing are of little importance. Much more damaging are the OTHER few minutes of missing footage. The changes start at Paul's line "Beatles to battle!", (a different shot and voice-over), through some very "groovy" deleted battle footage, and continue up to Ringo's rescueing of Jeremy (which is now missing some dialog). Although the "Hey Bulldog" sequence is a delight, the movie actually flows better in the more common version, with a punchier climax. Solution? Why didn't they include BOTH versions on the disc? Either that, or just include "Hey Bulldog" as a bonus? However, beyond that complaint, this is a fantasic dvd for fab-four fanatics.
Movie Review: A surprisingly good blast from the past Summary: 5 Stars
I recently watched this again for the first time in twenty years, and i had almost forgotten how good it was. In fact, it was solely responsible for me getting all Beatles albums out of storage!
It hasn't dated at all. The artwork is still good enough to make you sit up and go 'Wow', and their are some genuinely great flourishes that hit you by surprise.
The plot is decidedly silly, of course, but who cares when the jokes come flowing thick and fast.
And the music - it hardly needs to be said - is straight out of the top drawer. It is almost a 'Greatest Hits' collection of The Beatles up until Sgt. Pepper.
If you are new to this film then don't hesitate - watch it! And if you haven't seen it for a while, and have probably become accustomed to laughing it off, then be prepared to change your opinion. Because this is one film that deserves a repeat viewing!
