Movie Reviews of Yellow SubmarineMovie Review: Simply Superb DVD--Do NOT buy the VHS Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this movie on VHS a number of years ago and recently watched it. I couldn't help but feel disappointed in the picture and sound quality. In addition, it was TV screen format, not letterbox. I eagerly awaited the DVD and bought it the moment I could. I was not disappointed--the restored film is amazing! The colors are rich and lush, the re-mastered soundtrack clear as if the songs were recorded yesterday. Although the drawing style appears dated, it is still enchanting, bringing back fond memories of the psychedelic sixties and the popular Peter Maxx paintings and Op Art. It is a real visual treat and I am amazed at the imaginations who created this masterpiece. The story is a sheer delight and will amuse both adults and older children; its humor and positive message is badly needed in this time of terrorism and war. The DVD includes some great bonus features, such as a documentary on making of the film and interviews with people who did the voices for the Beatle characters. PASS on the VHS and buy the DVD--it is a far superior product and most enjoyable to watch again and again.
Movie Review: The great animated Beatles classic on DVD!!! If you can find a copy!!! Summary: 5 Stars
What a shame,it seems that movie companies only release Beatle classics on a limited term!!! I'm sure that a 40th Anniversary Edition might easily be on the way but I don't know!!! I'm glad I bought a copy of it when it was in print, because it is no out of print and fetching high dollars on auction sites such as Ebay!!! This WAS a great release from MGM,nice vibrant Widescreen(although it was non-anamorpic,it was'nt to bad sice it was 1.66!)transfer,the soundtrack was awesome too!!! And this disc had some choice extras, although not overstuffed with them!!! Let's hope that with Blu Ray here, maybe a reissue is in the near future,as well as a new DVD,well, lets keep our fingers crossed!!! Is it All To Much to have this great film back in print to enjoy,or will the Blue Meanies keep it locked in the vaults in Pepperland along with Let It Be,that has NEVER seen an official DVD release, lets hope it's soon, not When I'm Sixty-Four,come on All You Need Is Love,MGM,make fans happy again, cause like it says in the film a minute is a very long time!!! Cheers!!!
Movie Review: i sure dont live in a yellow submarine but, a yellow house! Summary: 5 Stars
i really liked this movie. my mom got it and at first i was excited to see it because i loved the beatles.(who doesn't)
but i had to wait like a week. but anyway, when i did see it, the very beginning, when they had the abnormal people and then there came the blue meanies i was like what in the world is this?
but the only thing was that i could'nt understand what the head blue meanie was saying when he sssllluuurrreeddd hisss worrrdsss.lol. mabey not that funny. but anyway, i also thought that the nowhere man was so funny. or jeremy or the boob or hilary or Ph.D. but it was sad when everybody was gonna leave him. but RINGO the HERO told jeremy to come with them. i was also happy to see the part with lucy in the sky with diamonds because i love that song. that is my absolute favorite song. it was really weird but then again this movie is wierd. my mom even forgot how weird it was. but it was still a good movie.
if you have seen this movie always remember to check your pockets for a hole.
Movie Review: Excellent for 60s memorabilia enthusiasts. Summary: 5 Stars
Though I remembered having seen parts of this movie as it was aired numerous times during my boyhood in the Seventies, back in those days much of Yellow Submarine's plot and symbolism were over my head, and I thought of it as just another animated kids' film which the adults didn't care for.
But nowadays, it's easy for me to pick out some of the movie's themes: the British hurling a little World War I-era humor at the Germans, childhood resentment of over-controlling parents, and Sixties druggie humor, all brought together in an animated version of the style of the Beatles' pop artist, Peter Max, with a workable plot. It's easy how kids would enjoy watching this animated gem from another time, and much of the symbolism is far enough over their heads to make it suitable for them to watch. Those of us who grew up listening to psychedelic Sixties music will enjoy it also, as an immersion into "British invasion" pop art.
I thoroughly recommend Yellow Submarine.
Movie Review: Great childrens' movie Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for my granddaughter so she'd have her own copy; I'd bought one for her to watch while visiting and it was hard to pry her away from it. I kept ours for future grandchildren! Our own three kids, now all grown up, also fell in love with the movie when we were able to rent it years ago, and it wasn't rare to hear one of them chirping out the lyrics to the title song while playing around the house. I loved it when it came out, of course, and what a treat to have it on DVD. It's a wonderful, wonderful childrens' movie, with some of the best pop music ever and an eternally positive message: "All you need is love." Buy it for the kids in your life.
I'm reading where Disney is remaking this film. It would be an equally great idea to remake The Graduate, or Casablanca. In other words, it's not a great idea. Some artistic endeavors strike such a perfect note that a remake would be pointless, or gratuitous at best. This is one of those endeavors.
