Movie Review: X-Men were just lost in translation
Summary: 3 Stars

I had an older brother who collected comics and the X-Men were his favorite. I read comics until High School. What I loved was the action and super powers were always equal to the ideals of frendship and mutant outsiders creating and accepting family together. When the movies came out I opted not to see them; one of my brothers gave me this set so I finally watched all three movies.

The movies seem so focused on the special effects and costumes that the only real relationship they had time to develop was between Magnito and Professor X. Casting Halle Berry was just a mistake. Storm was an African princess so I imagined someone regal like Iman or Sanna Lathan or at least someone who could act regal.

They also tried to do too much every movie was about saving the world; they botched the Pheonix storyline(no inron crystal) and killing Professor Xavier? What were they thinking? Then characters appear and disappear for example Nightcrawler was only in the 2nd movie and The Beast and Angel were only in the final movie.

Part of the reason the comics worked was because the mutant powers were never the main focus the relationships between the characters were always more important. They each had individual struggles because of their special abilities and they were constantly struggling to learn to use their individual talents as a team and to become a surrogate family. This was not captured in the movies.

For people who just want one dimensional comic book characters in a big budget special effects blockbuster this is a great choice. As an X-men fan who was hoping for a great trilogy it just fell flat.
