Movie Reviews of Woman on Top

Movie Review: bring on the motion sickness baby!
Summary: 4 Stars

Okay, unfortunately, it's not that kind of movie. However, it's a great romantic comedy - which also as a surprise actor (Harold Perrineau - Lost, Oz, Matrix Revolutions) as a drag queen. Penelope Cruz stars as Isabella Oliveira (even her character's name is sexy!) who has a problem of making love to her hubby due to her motion sickness . Well, if that description doesn't get you in the buying mood, I don't know what will. Anyway, Hubby gets sick of the woman on top position, and basically cheats on her. Then the fun starts.
I saw this movie years ago, and it was so good, I just had to have it. It's the perfect movie to watch if you wanna make a move on that hard to get gal!
It's a nice mixture of romance, comedy, slow Spanish music and a little black magic. Also, it's got a lot of my favourite aphrodisiac, food.

Acting - 3/5

Comedy - 3.5/5
Romance - 4.5/5
Magic - 5/5

Movie Review: Feel Good movie
Summary: 4 Stars

I thought the movie was great! It made me feel good watching it. The whole vibe was so soothing and the music was superb. Penelope Cruz did a good job for it being her first english spoken movie. Her husband is hot as hell, and you could tell that they were meant to be from the beginning. It really capitalized on the essence of love. Great chic flick, sends a good message to woman. Despite her decisoin with men, she realized that her husband was her true love in the end. I now want to move to Brazil!!!!

Movie Review: Totally delightful Penelope Cruz
Summary: 4 Stars

It's a story about an unsinkable woman who flees a bad relationship in Brazil and ends up in San Francisco, where she cooks up a storm of wonderful Brazilian food for the locals. Beautifully shot in San Francisco and my favorite Brazilian city, where I am at home, Salvador. Cruz shines and inspires.

Movie Review: Simple, funny, enjoyable
Summary: 4 Stars

It is a good entertainment. Simple story and very well acted. The actress and actors delivered. Not the best picture but I loved the way the simplicity can make an enjoyable movie. By the way, I loved the Brazilian's music.

Movie Review: Cruz Vehicle - Little Else
Summary: 2 Stars

This film is pure formula - predictable and cliche filled - except for the camera loving Penelope Cruz's face it offers little. They put a partial quote from USA Today on the DVD container "Plenty of Steamy Sex". What? For a total of 10 seconds from the three scenes in the film. And where is the comedy? Classified as a romantic comedy, only a few scenes with a taxi driver are fun. The transsexual Monica (Cruz's best friend) is suppose to provide most of comedy (as Cruz has not yet shown that ability in any films that I have seen) but her role is all cliche and seldom funny. Cruz's face is gorgeous as always, but her walk down the street with a hundred guys trailing, all tantilized by her beauty - why? The cannot see her face; her ballerina background is evident with her very slender build and then add an ordinary walk. On a positive side, they did a wonderful job presenting the music of Brazil - the soundtrack CD is worth examining if you love the film's music.

Bottom Line: I watched this film because Penelope Cruz was the starring actress. But I feel I wasted my time, I could have done my laundry.
