Movie Reviews of Witchboard

Movie Review: One of my favorite movies
Summary: 4 Stars

I can't wait until Witchboard is released on DVD! This movie is a definite cult classic and actually a pretty decent movie. The only way to find this movie now is on VHS and all copies I have seen are pretty worn out. If you ever used a Ouija board or had any interest...see this movie. I will definitely add this to my collection when it comes out.

Movie Review: So, How'd the board jump off their knees? I don't know man - he probably kicked it.
Summary: 4 Stars

Great horror flick with a hot chick playing the lead role. Not too bloody but totally enjoyable thanks to all the off key remarks and average acting abilities. This is a classic. "He's good, he's just a little dead that's all."

Movie Review: Witchboard
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a wonderful movie. It came out right when "Patch" was on Days of our lives. It was weird seeing him without the patch. Yum

Movie Review: 3.99 STARS: "Hey, I don't talk to cardboard." -Jim
Summary: 3 Stars

"Witchboard" is better than many people think. Is it a classic? Well, maybe not, but if it's not in the elite of the horror movie genre, it's clearly one of the better ones. You've got: some great/fantastic kills, a witchboard which is a transmitter to ghosts and demons and ultimately a window for possession of one of the main characters by a demon named Malfador.

The acting in this movie is pretty good for a horror flick and I really thought the movie was well directed too. The characters are dynamic and there is good character development evident throughout the movie which is more than I can say for about 100% of today's trash coming out in theaters. Also, I really liked the plot and storyline. "Witchboard" is an imaginitive and creative horror movie which is based in large part upon a supernatural element involving an evil force is which is released through a Quija board.

It's much more difficult for a horror movie to be successful and effective based on supernatural subject matter as opposed to real life horror...the problem is that as a screenplay writer and director, you have to be able to sell this supernatural element to the audience or the movie is a total joke...in short, it's got to make sense at least as far as the imagination is concerned because even in the metaphysical, there has to be some rules, some logic that makes the story work and stimulate the viewer's mind. The directers and writers of "Witchboard" were successful in this area and that makes the movie scary, interesting and good.

The movie starts out at a party in which Linda's friend named Brandon brings a Quija board and they obviously have no idea what they are dealing with. Consequently, an evil and malevolent spirit is released which terrorizes and torments Linda ultimately to the point where it can possess her. It is up to Brandon and his rival Jim to stop this from happening.

I think "Witchboard" is very effective and successful as a supernatural and metaphysical horror movie. Frankly, I don't see any evidence of this "cheese" that other reviewers refer too. Of course, the viewer has to clear the mental hurdles and keep an open mind since the movie deals with the supernatural, but such is the case with any supernatural horror movie including "Halloween", "The Exorcist", "The Shining", "Salem's Lot" and "The Omen", all of which are classic horror movies. "Witchboard" is brilliant with its own logic and delivers the goods as a horror movie. No, the movie isn't terrifying, nor is it scary enough to be considered a horror movie classic and that's why it doesn't quite get four stars, but it's interesting and chilling enough to be a very solid horror movie which is quite effective on its own merits, strong in substance and quite elegant in style as well.

In short, "Witchboard" delivers an interesting storyline/plot, suspense which carries the viewer to and through the climax, a couple of great kills, solid characters and an evil and mysterious villain which is based in the supernatural. What more can you ask for in a good solid horror flick? I highly recommend "Witchboard" and I consider it a must own horror movie for the serious horror movie fan.

Movie Review: REAL STUFF
Summary: 3 Stars

IT'S FUNNY...to see people write (as if THEY KNOW) that there's nothing really supernatural about the Ouija board/or think that they're equally entitled to see such happenings. Two years ago, with some friends..we constructed a basic one, and a wine glass i pulled from my kitchen cupboard levitated up into the air and across the table. It's sad most of us Americans (unlike Brazil and Europe) are too culturally immature and ignorant to know that there is more to life than food/work/sex/and sleep. Have you ever been physically attacked by an invisible entity? Wrestling and wrestling as it tried to pin you back? While wide awake/lights on/sittin on the couch? Or have you seen a knome or a fairie come to see you? Or had an object flung at you in front of your friends? All is energy. All is real. Energy can shove and push, and form the figures of your mind {for all to see}. We create. Life is wonderous. But we're doubters, and scared little egotists... cows chewing on the cud and sitting on the toilet laying our opinions. Feed a child. Hold someone you cowards. Before you're embalmed...What a (short but great)opportunity to be beautiful, like this green and blue planet, and its dimensions. You know what I don't believe in? I don't believe in you. Most are cattle. Who ridicule, like a childish ignoramus. You probably voted for George Bush's 2nd term. Jesus! are you dumb!(Better...you don't know. Stick to your life. Eat your mashed potatoes). Try to be kind. Most people, except the poor, are too fake, and insecure to deserve anything. No wonder it's a narrow path to heaven and a wide one to hell. Be humble and open (geez, as if you need to be told!), or stay married to "stupid."
