Movie Reviews of Wind

Movie Review: "Wind" from Down Under
Summary: 4 Stars

I actually saw this movie at a theatre in the US when it was released and loved it, so it was just a matter of being able to actually buy it, as the movie is unavailable in Australia. The story related to a time Australia was a force in America's Cup racing (before it became a farce) and ignited our country when Australia became the first country ever to challenge take the America's Cup off the US in the USA which (and goes down in history) was an incredible and unequalled feat in 12 metre yacht racing. The story (for me) portrayed our outdoor way of life and love of great competitiveness and also provided an in depth look at the great respect between our countries. The story line was believable and the actors appeared to enjoy their roles the story and action photography of the yacht racing including the close sailing action was excellent made the movie very exciting. Great outdoor action movie.

Movie Review: DVD? About time!
Summary: 4 Stars

It's about time this movie arrives out on DVD, the sad thing is that this movie came out about 1992 (over 10 years ago) and by today's standards, Wind is a bit hoakey. The storyline is unbelievable and the fact that 12 meter yachts are being raced in the America's Cup is a bit antiquated. On the plus side, the soundtrack is excellent, and the cinematography <sp> is some of the best that I've ever seen. The aerial shots are especially mouthwatering. The movie puts you right in with the yachts; on a big t.v. with DVD quality picture and sound, it should be breathtaking.

Movie Review: Maybe the one great sailing movie
Summary: 4 Stars

Matthew Modine and Jennifer Grey are two very appealing actors. The scenary around Newport RI is a great setting and the boats were terrific too. I loved the International 14s. It was great to see the old Luders 12 meter American Eagle painted red again. And Cliff Robertson is a much more appealing character than Dennis Conner. This is an all around good movie, all the better for being on DVD. It has perked up more than one drab winter day for me. I also found it very flattering that they changed my name just slightly for Matthew Modine's character.

Movie Review: For sailing, world cup and John Toll fans
Summary: 4 Stars

This is an older but interesting film for anyone who loves sailing and beautiful cinematography. I bought it for my godson who is learning to sail. It is good for teens and up. My interest was due to it being one of the earlier films of academy-award winning cinematographer John Toll (Braveheart, Thin Red Line).
The classic underdog story follows an original path to a World's Cup finale and the film is a good afternoon amusement.

Movie Review: For those who love to sail...
Summary: 4 Stars

This is the story of the wind, a boat, and the people who wanted to win The Americas Cup with her. It is worth watching just for the photography! Their's is a story of determination and hope. If you're a competitor of any sort, plus enjoy sailing or love to watch the ballet of a sloop across the water, don't miss this gem.
