Movie Reviews of WindMovie Review: Wind, a review of the DVD quality. Summary: 5 Stars
Being an old sailor I have enjoyed the movie "Wind" for years. It was one of the very few movies I bought on VHS. The love story is mildly dorky but the sailing scenes are wonderful and Jennifer Gray is cuter than a bug's ear. That said, I hoped the new DVD of "Wind" would knock my socks off on my 46" Sony LED flat screen. It didn't, until..oops..I sprung for the Sony BluRay player. I reckon my hope for something that would fill the medium screen crisply were dashed upon the rocks of reality for 13 bucks shipped. Don't buy it hoping it's crisp when filling the screen on your big screen TV....UNLESS you spring for a BluRay player. Then it's HD good. I've learned my lesson on this. Now I have the "set" of toys, it's a good movie, clean and crisp, and better than ever at that size.
Movie Review: It's all true! An excellent film! Summary: 5 Stars
Having read the reviews but never having heard of this film I expected another over-rated B-grade throwaway but was astounded to find that the five star reviews are spot-on. Excellent in every respect. The only way this film could have been better was if it had gotten all the permissions necessary to make a more faithful and accurate docu-drama. Given that the names have been changed, this film is an astounding accomplishment. The best that can be said is that my wife, who doesn't swim and who only likes sailing when the engine is running, there's no wind, and the water is perfectly flat, loved this movie, not only for the romance story but for the excitement of the sailing action as well.
Movie Review: High adventure, beauty and romance. Summary: 5 Stars
The timeless and classy WIND drops you directly into the high adventure of America's Cup yacht races, complete with a little romance. The absolutely gorgeous cinemagraphy has you leaning over the water with the crew, skidding around buoys in Ferrari-like maneuvers, and facing tragedy head-on. When the underdogs retreat to a hot, windy hanger in the desert to secretly design a never-before-seen racing yacht, you feel the heat. You're pulling for them. Adventure, beauty, romance. WIND will never be outdated. Other movies that we like: Master and Commander of the Far Side of the World, Top Gun, Walk the Line, Crazy Heart, Remains of the Day, Relative Values, Big Trouble.
Movie Review: The BEST SPORT IN THE WORLD in DVD Summary: 5 Stars
Well, nobody has seen this DVD unless you were able to get an early copy somehow but this is a much anticipated release. The VHS was great but to get widescreen format and crystal clear picture of a great movie is AWESOME! The 12 meter boats weren't as quick as the boats today but Australia sure gave them a pounding and it made for some great action as this movie portrays. And it shows classic match racing with extensive tacking duels. It is a nice story about how hard work and passion can pay off if you get a chance. I will re-run this a million times over other DVDs out there. I only wish there were more movies with competitive sailing available.
Movie Review: FINALLY..... IT'S AVAILABLE! Summary: 5 Stars
I just received a message from Amazon.com that "Wind" is being released on DVD. I am hopeful that the video and audio transfer brings even more magic (not that it's needed) to an already great film. I have been trying to ascertain what the "hook" to this movie is for me, and I would guess it boils down to this: 1. A fairly believable love story 2. Great sailing action and camera work to bring back the rush of my sailing days 3. Excellent casting and character matching. Please do yourself a favor and at least rent this movie when it becomes available, and you just may end up putting it in your collection permanently.
