Movie Reviews of WillardMovie Review: Even better than the original... Summary: 5 Stars
In some cases, time and technological advances help a remake improve upon the original. This is one of those cases.
The original "Willard" was clever and frightening in an intellectual sort of way, but the cheest special effects with the rats provided many unintentional laughs, something you do not want when you're watching a horror movie. Now, with CGI and other special effects advancements, the cheesiness has been eradicated, leaving you to enjoy a very good storyline.
Crispin Glover makes one hell of a Willard. Given his off-the-wall personality off-screen, it seems as if he was made for this role. His natural quirkiness plays a hand in making the audience really believe in the character. The character is both disturbing and sympathetic because of this, a nice blend.
Also, fans of the original "Willard" and its sequel "Ben", take note. There's a funny nod to those films here. I don't want to ruin it for those who haven't seen this movie, but I will say it's a rather funny (and fitting) homage.
Movie Review: Crispin i love you Summary: 5 Stars
Oh i love this film, i love it, i love it. Crispin Glover's performance should win him an Oscar without a doubt. The only other actor of Crispin's generation i rate as highly is Sean Penn. You see Crispin like Sean does not care about looking cool and hip on screen, instead he wants to make the character he is playing as realistic as possible. I do not know how Mr Glover managed to deliver what must be, the greatest performance by a male actor since Sean Penn's performance in Hurly Burly. Yes Crispin is that good, this film will make all the under-dog men in the world, cry and laugh, as Willard fights back against his evil boss. I love his relationship with the rats "Tear it Tear it Tear it up" I completly identify with his relationship with Socrates, animals are so comforting, in this cold hard world. This film is beautiful to behold. Please. Film-makers of the world, Crispin should be staring in more films as good as this one.
Movie Review: Willard Revisited Summary: 5 Stars
I read that some critics didn't like the remake of Willard. However, I disagree. Normally, a remake of a movie is not as good as the original. But not in this case. I rated this five stars because of Crispin Glover's brilliant portrayal of Willard. Mr Glover's acting and facial expression puts the audience in the proper frame of mind for a horror movie. In the beginning, he brilliantly shows the emotion of a person who feels that everyone is putting him down. Little by little his mood changes to that of one determined to get revenge. The special effects of the rats throughout the picture was excellent. In addition to the rats scaring you, Willard's mother's physical appearance is somewhat frightening. There are various photgraphs of Willard's father shown throughout the picture. To those who are observant, the man in the photos is Bruce Davison who portrayed Willard in the original movie.
Movie Review: Aw, RATS!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I just recently watched this movie and I admit, it was watched because I raise pet rats and wanted to see the ones used in the movie work their magic.
The movie, unfortunately was much under rated by the so called experts who gave it bad reviews. Glover is an excellent Willard and I cannot imagine any sequel not featuring him.
Having felt much like Willard in some cases, I found myself cheering for him (and the rats) throughout the entire movie.
I have watched the movie at least three times since purchasing it, and will no doubt watch it again. I am looking forward to finding a copy of the original Willard and watching it as well.
The cast was great, the scary scenes were plenty scary, and the rats did a masterful job doing their individual parts in the film.
If you missed this one, go back and pick up a copy for yourself, you will not be disappointed.
Movie Review: Disturbing and darkly funny Summary: 5 Stars
If there's an actor who can play weird better than Crispin Glover, I don't know who it is. He's perfect as Willard Stiles A lonely man who still lives doesn't have any friends and his only family is his sickly mother When Willard goes down to the basement to get rid of the rats he finds a friend in a cute white rat that he meets in his basement he loves the rat, he sleeps with the rat he even trains the rat and all of his rat friends and that's when the fun really begins. It is a rare gem, a character study of considerable subtlety aside from being a helluva fun time. While it doesn't wind up being the masterpiece for which it was at one point heading, it is still better than anyone had any right to expect "Willard" isn't for everybody. It's for those who want to enjoy a wicked tale of an unusual friendship, revenge, and a perfect set-up for a sequel.
