Movie Reviews of WillardMovie Review: Crispin Glover Is "Overly" Incredible. Summary: 5 Stars
Crispin played the role of George McFly perfectly in Back to the Future, and he respectfully found the opportunity to finally do it now in Willard. As george McFly, he had one of the most ingenious roles ever, and I have always wished he was wrtten into the second and third films of Back to the Future more legitimately. Did you see him on Conan OBrian? What a geunine innocent, the coolest guy ever. It's as though any interaction he has with the public is an exposure on his lifestyle, so simlar to the movie. So yes, I think he fits this role as Willard, perfectly. There needs to be a jump-start to a new era of respect for his acting, and as other highly respected actors in Holywood, scripts need to be written specifically for Crispin Glover, simply because of his incredible unique presence on film and in front of the media.Willard is definitely going to attract cult classic viewers and hopefully the larger public eye. Of course saw the movie on Sunday having only the person I came with and 1 other couple in the theater, but I hope it still stands well in the box office. In any case, the characters are "overly" exaggerated in style and it fits. His boss is "overly" and uncontrollably bullish, his mom is "overly" gross and old, the girl is "overly" innocent, caring and naive, the rats are just "overly" abundant, and Willard for sure is "overly" confined and whacked out of his gourd. The coolest movie out right now for sure.
Movie Review: Willard- The ultimate cult movie Summary: 5 Stars
When I first saw the commercials for this movie, i was a bit skeptical. It appeared to be one of those average American slasher movies that leaves you feeling nauseous and unfullfilled. I was wrong. I went to see the movie with a few friends, and was my eyes were riveted to the screen from beggining to end. Glover doesnt just play Willard...he is Willard. Willard is the kind of guy we can all relate to at times. Alienated, robbed of all his dignity, he yearns for a place in his life. That place was found the day his mother told him there were rats in the basement. It's not just a gruesome movie, as it first appears. It has emotion, psychological terror and most of all; depth. This movie can be percieved on so many levels. It portrays how our hate can manifest into horrorble things. How the way we act and treat others, will eventually come upon ourselves. For the more perceptive viewers, you will notice Willard's address is 911...which im sure is no mere coincidence. In short, this movie was great, but you would have to be of a certain audience to enjoy it. therefore, labeling this film a cult movie. No one who is squemish about rats or who doesnt like watching depressing movies should go near this. It's for people of a certain crowd...(an individual crowd no doubt) but I and all 4 other people in the theatre thouroughly enjoyed it.
Movie Review: Crispin Glover IS Willard Summary: 5 Stars
I usally don't like re-makes...
...but when you are remaking films from the early era of movies, before people had a concept of how to act, how to write a script, etc. Then it is alright with me, ecspecially when it comes to Dracula, Frankenstein, and of course The Fly. All of which have been recently remade, and done to capture what the original films failed to from the books or just could not given that the original actors and effects were so drab.
Willard is light years ahead of the original Crispin does a PERFECT job, infact this role must have been made for him!
If you are looking for scary, that you will not find, unless of course you are afraid of rats. On the other hand, if you have ever been the underdog, the guy who takes crap from people all day. Be it your co-workers, your boss, your teachers, what ever. If in general you have been treated unfairly and been given the shaft by "the man", or just hate our corrupt system in gernal. Then this movie is for you, the underdog! It is the horror/drama equivilent of Napoleon Dynomite, Angus, Revenge Of The Nerds, etc. :)
The acting was perfect, the sound track VERY amusing. There is VERY limited use of CGI! What more can you ask for!?
That's all I can say, just watch it!
Movie Review: Revenge of the Rats Summary: 5 Stars
Boy, this film was creepy but very good. It's hard to categorize as it's not really a horror film. Crispin Glover is disturbing to watch as "Willard", a pathetic loner who slowly becomes mentally unhinged due to his miserable boss who tortures him. He bonds with a white rat named Socrates who leads a gang of rats in his basement. Willard and Socrates become best friends and Willard realizes that with Socrates' help that he can control the rats. The woman playing his mother was really scary and not very nice either. Glover is a terrific actor and his physical features make his character even more eerie. The pale skin and blue eyes. Lovely Laura Harring shows up as a work colleague who tries to befriend him and seems to be the only person to show kindness to Willard. Lee Ermey is wonderful as the mean as a skunk boss who tries to humiliate Willard at every turn, until he receives his come-uppance. I think this movie will strike a chord with anyone who ever felt alone and isolated. The black rat named Ben - this evil rat is frightening and is jealous of Socrates' bond with Willard. Ben and Willard battle it out in the end for control after Socrates' death. Interesting and worth watching film.
Movie Review: Pretty good Summary: 5 Stars
Ok if you're expecting an emmy winning performance, this movie isn't for you. Willard is about a young man who lives with his horrible mother, and works for his dead father's buisness. Willard is a shy quiet person and is kicked around and abused by everyone. While at home his ghastly mother is complaining of hearing rats in the basement and tells him to kill them. After two attempts of trying to kill them he finds a white rat trying to escape from his rodent paper. He pittys the poor thing and releases it. He then makes the rat his pet, and his first freind. Soon Willard is popular with the local rats. But after using the rats for revenge things get a bit out of hand (you'll just have to see). I really enjoyed the movie and laughed at a lot of the scenes. I really felt bad about Socrates, and Ben is one evil character. One thing i'd like to mention is that it's really not THAT corny. So if you just want to see a movie but don't know what, see Willard. But don't if you expect every movie out there to have the greatest plot and actors in the world.
