ell I heard this came out on DVD recently, and starting rem when this movie came out, back in my early 20's and what a dif time haha.
Having said that, I used to live in Sacramento CA then ( 1990 ) and they have this really old movie theatre "Tower", 2 small screens and one HUGE one with a very steep incline of seats. Speakers/sound system was off the hook killer. think of a IMAX theatre 50 years ago, not sure of Towers age but its really old. nothing else like it before IMAX came out.
anyway, I used to work swing shift then, so saw allot of day movies and many with but maybe 5-10 people in the whole theatre.
and when THIS movie came out! I didnt know what i was in for, hey its got that cute blond Laura Dern in it and that Raising Az movie Nick guy.
well, if you read about this movie, ( now I know ) that when David Lynch released it he wanted the sound to be louder by far than most movies, near concert level.
Well needless to say, Tower didnt hold back on the sound, and by the time the movie was half over or abouts, I was pinned to my chair and freaked out haha. I was right in the middle half way up, and no one around me. it was insane the volume. I mention all this so if you dont know, now you do, that you need to crank your home system up for this one, past normal movie level at home.
this is by far Laura Derns best movie, watching it now sure makes me wish I was younger again! and Nick is a trip, as usual. and Laura Derns real mom plays her mom in the movie, SHE is a trip. by the time William Dafoe came on and starting his role, i was gone. Man i went back and must of seen it at Tower 3 more times in the next 2 weeks haha.
We have teens, and would love to show them this movie, but not with all this sex in it. hey they are kids!!
why they release movies in todays age without this option on it to turn off the sex and or dirty words, I just dont get it. so 4 stars not 5 just for that.
Same with Summer of Sam movie, Spike Lee. stunning movie, ex acting all around, cant turn off the sex. and I know it CAN for the first time i watched it was on cable and it WAS all cut out. So get with it
