Movie Reviews of Wild Tigers I Have KnownMovie Review: A Point Missed Summary: 4 Stars
I think there is a point that most people overlooked. This is set in the late `70s or early 80's. Notice, no computers, no cell phone, and certainly no internet. More importantly the attitudes are more along the lines of the fifties and sixties. Logan has no gay support groups and the students, the straight ones, are afraid of or hate gay people. This makes this a period piece of life thirty years ago. From what I observed currently, Logan, now, would probably admit he's gay, ask Rodeo to the dance, and probably would have been well received.
That said, it does however convey the absolute loneliness as it was back then. Also, the level of self-deception involved and the denial that permeated that era. If Logan actually existed, he'd be in his early forties and seeing this would only shake his head in wonder.
Downside of this movie is it is disjointed and has to be seen several times to get everything out of it.
I'll give it four out of five stars.
Movie Review: I really liked this movie Summary: 4 Stars
I understand the negative feelings that many feel, because the film is very unsatisfying in its narrative, but I think the visuals were so amazing that I didn't really mind. But if you are looking for a coherent film with strong character development and well written scenes look elsewhere. I found it to be dreamy/hazy enough that I could overlook the lack of scenes and at least feel good about the film. And I thought the acting was interesting and funny, great soundtrack and I was pretty entertained throughout. There were only a few bad segments (Mother berating son about dropping groceries), which were pretty cliche and unnecessary for me. All I can say is if you are into photography, enjoy pleasing visuals and are used to European cinema (which sometimes doesn't give you as much information as American films) than you may like this movie. If not, you probably won't.
Movie Review: Intelligent, challenging, surreal coming-of-age film Summary: 4 Stars
This moody, ethereal, dreamlike, experimental, beautifully shot evocation of what it's like
to be 13 and starting to realize you're gay certainly has more than it's share of
pretentious moments and hammer headed symbolism.
Yet I felt my self wrapped up in it, despite the occasional eye roll,
and quite moved by the end. I also found that images,
music, and emotions from the film have stayed with me.
I'll see this again, and - in spite of it's flaws - could see rating it even higher.
Movie Review: Good Movie Summary: 4 Stars
It's a bit cryptic at first, but you get the jist of it. Slightly disappointed in lack of dialog with the main characters - a lot of "B Roll" was used, sometimes a little too much (made if feel as tho the purpose was to run out time [filler]). Not as good as Transnation but better than Tarnation. I plan on buying the soundtrack tho - the song 'Wild Tigers I have Known' is awesome!
Movie Review: A bit confusing at times - but so is coming of age! Summary: 4 Stars
Beautiful, touching, and totally understandable by anyone who grew up as a gay boy. It's a little disjointed, but I have a feeling that's intentionally mirroring the mental state of the main character (who is a very beautiful and sensitive boy). It's a sweet, touching film.
