Movie Review: Widespread Panic "Earth to Atlanta","Live at the Fox Theater"
Summary: 5 Stars
This is a definite 5 star classic concert, very well performed. This is an outstanding double disc, "southern", "jam band", long-length, double dvd concert. It was filmed on May 5, 2006 at the famous "Fabulous Fox Theater", on Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta. The music is outstanding, the band performs outstanding. The atmosphere is great, the "vibe" is great. The crowd is really enjoying it. It lasts about 182 minutes.
The line-up consists of: John Bell on lead vocals and guitar, John Herman on keyboards, John Keane on guitar and pedal steel, George McConnel on guitar, Todd Nance on drums, Domingo Ortiz on percussion, and David Schools on bass guitar. The band is from a Athens, Georgia, and they can really "jam"! There are many guest musicians including Randall Bramblett on Saxaphone, 3 other "horn" players, 2 cello players, and 4 violinists.
The first disc consists of 11 songs. Some highlights I liked included: "From the Cradle", "Solid Rock"(Built before the foundation of the World), "Travelin Man" (Not the Skynyrd song), "Vacation", "Gradle", "Bust it Big", "Don't Wanna Lose You", and an outstanding song and outstanding performance of "Chainsaw City" (I think it's about the Texas Chainsaw Massacre - it has a good beat and is very upbeat, the band really "jam" on this one).
Disc two consists of 12 songs. Some highlights include: "Let's Get Down to Business", "Barstools and "Dreamers", "Second Skin" (this featurs excellent violin music from the guest violinists), "May Your Glasses be Filled", "You should be glad", and "Goodpeople"
The encore performance consists of three outstanding songs that are very well performed, these are: "None of Us are Free" (If one of us is bound, none of us are free), A "Talking Heads"/David Byrne song "City of Dreams" - this is another outstanding song and performance(We live in a City of Dreams), and "Walkin(for your love).
This is an excellent long-length concert, with very talented muscians, performing excellent songs in an excellent environment. I consider it a true "classic", and therefore, I highly recommend it.
