Movie Reviews of Why We FightMovie Review: Why We Fight Summary: 5 StarsThis thought-provoking anti-war film by director-producer Jarecki asks a simple question and, in the context of the current war in Iraq, arrives at some disturbing--even shocking--answers. "Fight" owes much to its array of voices: We hear from Eisenhower's grandson, an architect of the so-called "Bush doctrine" of preemptive strikes, a former lieutenant general at the Pentagon, and two combat pilots who delivered the opening salvo in Baghdad, 2003. Jarecki stitches it all together in a way that seems probing and insightful rather than partisan or pedantic. The result is a haunting essay film on modern warfare you won't soon forget.
Movie Review: Must Be Considered In Light of the Present Predicament Summary: 5 StarsAlthough the focus of the film is consideration of Eisenhower's 1961 Farewell Address warning about the military industrial complex in light of Iraq, this is an excellent analysis of how American operations/relationships in and with other countries may have had unintended consequences. No matter where one stands politically, the content in this documentary should at least be considered.
Movie Review: Why We Fight Summary: 5 StarsI viewed this in my Communication & Social Change class at UW-Stevens Point. It was intense, heart-wrenching, and I was both angry and disappointed with the government after viewing it. I wanted my entire family to view this movie to see just what is the business of the government and that it is not altogether altruistic. I realize that this movie had a point to make and found material to support making that point. But that material was powerful and certainly presents an alternative to consider for supporting war in any country.
Movie Review: Why We Fight Summary: 5 StarsThe film was well written and brought a lot of issues to the forefront, of which I had either never known or never thought about. It was scarey to see President Eisenhower fortell the future as to how our goverment would become almost non-democratic and very close to a dictatorship.
If all Americans would see this film, maybe they would become more aware of the facts of issues facing them in the present. It's obvious we have not learned from the past.
Movie Review: interesting documentary; not just another Bush basher Summary: 4 Stars I found this documentary to be absorbing, though not riveting. It
covered a long period of time, back to the Eisenhower administration
and his famous speech warning of the danger of an uncontrolled Military
Industrial complex. Worthwhile for those interested in American history.
