Movie Reviews of Who's That Girl?Movie Review: It's About Time! Summary: 5 Stars
I was living in Los Angeles and I remember the HUGE billboards going up all over town prior to the movie's release. Even before it was released, everyone was panning the film. Too many people listen to critics... I look at it this way: If someone is a movie critic, they are an actor, director, screenwriter, etc. who has failed. Ditto for music critics - they wanted to be composers, musicians, recording artists, and failed. I went to see this movie and laughed till I couldn't breathe. I picked it up on VHS years ago and will purchase it on DVD as well. It was a modern take on the various 'screwball comedies' of the 50's and 60's. The characters are hysterical even if they [and some of the script] is a tad predictable. There are inconsistencies in the film, such as the story taking place in New York, but when they go to a hospital, it is the hospital in Woodland Hills, CA. [they COULD have put up a fake sign while filming], and other 'mistakes' that a trained eye can catch during the film. But overall, Griffin Dunne and Madonna work well together and there are so many quotable lines in the movie that after all these years - I remember and still laugh at.
Highly recommended for an irreverent, laugh-filled viewing.
Movie Review: Love it! Summary: 5 Stars
I am not afraid to admit it: I love Who's That Girl? It's one of my favorite Madonna movies, and almost 20 years later, I still do not understand why this movie was bashed the way it was. It's not a masterpiece but it's a fun romp with Madonna absolutely charming in a comedic role. Her accent seems made up (is it Bronx? Detroit?) but overall she's good in the role. I think Madonna's best performances are her comedic ones -- Desperately Seeking Susan, Swept Away and this film. She has great chemistry with Griffin Dunne, and the soundtrack is fun particularly if you love 80s dance music.
Who's That Girl? is silly fun. Give it a chance. It's not Shanghai Surprise or The Next Best Thing. But it's one of Madonna's few shining moments on screen, and further proof she could be a star comedienne.
Movie Review: OMG!! It's coming to DVD - my prayers have been answered! Summary: 5 Stars
I couldn't believe my eyes when I got the e-mail from Amazon.com that this DVD was FINALLY getting released! It's still two months away, but it's worth every minute of waiting.
This is my favorite Madonna movie, hands down. It actually has a funny, yet clever plot, great soundtrack and some hilarious one-liners that you won't soon forget. The thing about this movie is you can watch it over and over and it never gets old. Some of my favorite one liners are: "Lowden Clear - well he hasn't exactly been Valentino in the sack lately"; "No one shushes Nikki Fin"; "Knock Knock, Who's There? Boo. Boo Hoo? Don't cry, we'll take the apartment!"; "Murray the Tiger! If there's only four left, it's not like you're gonna have another Murray"; and many others.
Let the countdown begin!
Movie Review: Love this movie Summary: 5 Stars
Why has it taken so long for Who's That Girl to make it to DVD?? My roommate has this movie on Laser Disc. The quality of the laser disc doesn't give this movie justice, nor VHS. I prefer it as widescreen DVD. Eitherway, for the year this movie came out, it's one of the best entertaining films. If you want a fun movie to watch, then get this one.
Madonna does best when she's having fun. All her films are great except for a few, but who cares. When she's doing comedy, she's hilarious. Her role on Will and Grace proves how great she is when she's doing comedy. Why can't she do more like these? I love her work regardless and Who's that Girl soundtrack is just as great and fun as the movie.
I totally recommend this movie to everyone.
Movie Review: The Best Madonna Movie of the 80s!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This film is so funny and is sure to be entertaining even if you aren't a Madonna fan!!! Madge plays Nikki Finn, an ex-con who has to get home to Pennsylvania as soon as possible. Louden Troot (Griffin Dune) is hired to bring Nikki to the bus station to ship her away for good!! But a funny thing happens on the way to the bus station.... ....they fall in love. This makes Louden rethink his wedding plans and leads to a very happy ending!!!
This is a feel-good movie that you need to buy RIGHT
PS - Be sure to buy Madonna's new album "Confessions on a Dance Floor" out November 15th!!
