Movie Reviews of Who's That Girl?

Movie Review: Quien es esa nina
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my favorite Madonna movie and one of my favorite 80's movies because it is so funny and Madonna plays such a unique character.

Madonna plays Nikki Finn, a street-wise ex-con with white hair and a good left hook.

Nikki meets up with Louden Trott (played by Griffin Dunne) who was assigned to pick her up after she was released from prison and take her to the bus station. Mr. Worthington (Bibi Besch) doesn't want Nikki anywhere near his daughter Wendy's (Haviland Morris) wedding to Louden because he was the one who set her up to go to the big house!

Nikki convinces Louden to stop at the mall because after all her mom thinks she's been shopping for the past four years so it wouldn't be very nice to come home empty handed. But Nikki has ulterior motives because she wants to "cleah my name" and prove to everyone that she was set up.

It's now a race to see if Nikki can con Louden into helping her. Along the way they fall in love. But Louden is an uptight boy from Scarsdale who has reservations about a kooky girl from Philly.

But, Nikki gets to Louden's wedding and stops the preacher in mid-sentence so that she can tell everyone that Mr. Worthington set her up. She also informs everyone that Louden is really in love with her, and this time he has the backbone to fight for her. Wendy doesn't mind though, she has her hot UPS driver to keep her company.

Louden and Nikki take their bus trip together back to Philly as Madonna's third '87 hit plays, "Who's That Girl."

Madonna's acting was wonderful, and she sounded so funny and looked very sexy. But the poor thing was crucified for this picture, unrightfully so.

Movie Review: silly but lovely- like nikkie
Summary: 5 Stars

when i first did a search for madonna films on dvd two years ago i was shocked to see that "Who's That Girl?" wasnt on dvd- how could that be it's one of the best "Madonna-movies" along with "Desperately Seeking Susan" "Dick Tracy" "Truth or Dare" "A league of their own" "Evita" & "The next best thing"- yes people she can act and she is also funny!.
I first saw "Who's that girl?" when i was 11 or 12 & i loved Madonna's outragious character nikkie finn- "I am Nikki Finn, I will not be denied & I will know vengance!"- I loved the film & have watched it over the years, although I didnt realise how over the top it was untill i grew up but anyway once you see it's all in the name of fun it's an absolute ball.
About time warner brothers! and while were on the subject what is it with studios who release dvds for films with hit soundtracks like "Who's that Girl?" who dont include the acompanying music wideo's in the special features especialy in the case of a film like "Who's that girl?" & "Crazy for you" which are sold on Madonna (& would sell a lot more copies with the music videos appealing to Madonna fans and 80's music buff's/collectors) "Desperately seeking susan" sufferd the same without "Into The Groove"- So Five Stars for the film and Four for the special features- unless the basics- the video's and trailer are included by the time it hits the shelves who knows- I've been surprised before! oh well that's what special editions are for- watch the movie, buy the soundtrack and have a ball- i know i will. Movie Review: The funniest Madonna film of all
Summary: 5 Stars

If your first time viewing is anything like mine was, well...I didn't like it. After getting it on video, I found myself watching it more and more and finding it to be really funny. Sure, I thought the film was "silly" and Madonna's acting felt like, well, "acting", but it turns out that I can't stop laughing when I'm watching it. Her lines are funny and so are her leading man's reactions. Thank God it has finally come to DVD. The film bombed when it came out (guess I wasn't the only one at first who didn't care for it) and soon had it's own fan following after video release.

The film is based loosely on the Katherine Hepburn/Cary Grant film "Bringing Up Baby." In BUB, the story is about a man who can't escape a girl who also is babysitting a cougar. In WTG, the story is about a man who can't escape a girl who is babysitting a tiger. In WTG, they have created a different plot but basically the outline is still the same as I have stated.

The actor who plays Madonna's leading man was best known in "An American Werewolf In London" by being the lead's best friend killed by a werewolf after leaving a pub and heading into the fog with him.

Who's that girl is classic, and will definately recall the times of the 1980's but that's okay. I'm overjoyed this wonderful film is finally available on DVD. Watch it more than once and you'll find yourself with a new guilty pleasure.

Movie Review: My favorite Madonna movie
Summary: 5 Stars

we live in a world where Who's That Girl doesn't get much love. The movie made less than $10 million at the box office, the songs from the soundtrack were ignored from The Immaculate Collection, and we have suffered seeing movies like A Certain Sacrifice and Shanghai Surprise getting the DVD treatment first, but rest assured, our prayers have finally been answered.

Who's That Girl was released in the summer of 1987, starring the queen of pop, Madonna, as a streetwise con artist who was just released from prison for a crime she didn't commit. Griffin Dunne (After Hours, An American Werewolf In London) played Louden Trott, a soon-to-be-married lawyer who was given simple instructions by his almost-father in law to pick her up from jail and take her to the bus station... neither Louden nor Nikki's lives will ever be the same again. Complete with a zany variety of characters as well as a cougar (or known as a "Patagolian Felix"), the film is a true screwball comedy and updates the classic "Bringing Up Baby" into the 1980's

The movie was critically maligned from the moment it came out, but among Madonna fans, it was an instant cult classic. Madonna was extremely charismatic and funny in this film, even if the story is predictable. I have always had a soft spot in my heart for this film with Madonna.

YAY!!!!! From the opening cartoon segment until the last frame, this MADONNA film is a HOOT!!! The release will again give the 'haters' the opportunity to bash Her Madgesty...but after 20 years the only thing i can come up with is jealousy. Madonna has nothing to prove....to ANYONE!!! If you haven't seen this film...avoid the reviews and just watch it. You'll be pleasantly surprised. The 'Girl' has great comic timing. She LOOKS FAAABulous. The story's cute and the Madonna songs, for those of you who didn't know her material prior to the 90's critically acclaimed stuff, will find it quite enjoyable and maybe seek out OTHER early stuff...to find out first hand what all the fuss, BEYOND THE HEADLINES, was all about.
There's a lot of garbage thrown at us, hidden behind the guise of 'SUMMER BLOCKBUSTER'. 'Who's That Girl' isn't Citizen Kane, Fargo or even The 40 Year Old Virgin...but it IS funny, charming and a GREAT reminder, once seen, that MADONNA isn't bashed for anything in particular that she's done...but for just the mere fact that she's MADONNA. There are clearly better ways to spend your time...but if you have any free...spend it with Nicki Finn...unless you're interested in jumping the 'Malign Madonna' bandwagon, you'll be glad you did. 'WHO'S THAT GIRL?, INDEED!!!!
