Movie Review: Most beautiful!

I love this movie. It's my all time favourite and it's great to see it's out on DVD. Mikhail Barischnikow is of course the greatest dancer and performs his artistry. The storyline is breathtaking. All actors and actresses are simply supreme. It was Isabella Rosselini's first movie role . I saw this movie the first time in the cinema and it was the first time I saw Gregory Hines - who will truely be missed. He was a great actor and step dancer. This is the first review I have ever written, that is how strongly I feel about this movie. I first watched this movie in the theater when I was 15. I must have watched it 5 times alltogether. I was mesmorized by the dance sequences. I didn't know how mere mortals could soar and spin even though "this is not ice skating". The story was also gripping and compelling. I have waited for so long for this to come out on DVD and it's finally here. I also thought it had an incredible soundtrack. A must see.Movie Review: Artistry!

Regardless of any opinion on the story or acting, both are irrellevant. Two of the greatest artists of all time portray on screen exactly that. The perfection of an art that started in France and Italy but was refined by Russia, BALLET- meets one of the few American born arts, TAP. These two performers in Baryshnikov and the late Gregory Hines held me to complete admiration. I wish the world was as passionate about life as these two amazing men are! I first saw this movie when it came out years ago. I loved it then and I love it now! If you are a fan of ballet, dance, and Baryshnikov it is a must have! The story follows the era of the Russian Cold War and the isolation its dancers went through. It is a likely story for its time with dancers being controlled by a harsh government, people wanting to escape the life of poverty and government control, and finding freedom somehow. To watch Baryshnikov dance in anything is wonderful!Movie Review: Great dancing and engaging drama - what more could you want!

I first saw White Nights many years ago and loved it. Having recently watched it again I was a little cautious about how it would be, so many years later. It's still just as great. Typically dancers don't have the best track record when it comes to quality acting, but Baryshnikov is terrific. The storyline is incredibly believable and the music adds perfectly to the drama of Communist Leningrad. I would highly recommend this movie to lovers of both dance, and good drama.
