Movie Reviews of White FangMovie Review: One of my favorites Summary: 5 Stars
The other night this came on TV and my wife and I were thrilled, for this was one of, if not my favorite film as a young boy. I would rent this movie over and over and never get tired of it, so the other night I popped the popcorn and snuggled on the couch for a trip down memory lane, and it was so much fun. Ethan Hawke (funny how I know who he is now, but when I was 6 I couldn't care less) is great as Jack, the young boy in search of gold who befriends this wolf/dog they call White Fang. Jack meets the dog early on as a pup, and then later on as a full grown wolf, but it's not until he rescues White Fang from a group of heithans who are fighting him in dog fights that they form a bond that stands the tests of time. It's a great family film filled with heart, and some great action and adventure. Some of the scenes may be a bit heavy for younger kids (like the final showdown between Jack and the group of dog fighters) but for the most part White Fang is classic family fun. Beautifully shot with amazing scenery (Alaska is georgous...I mean, really...My wife and I just went last Sept. and I swear I've never seen anything as beautiful) and wonderful animall acting (it's amazing to me how well these animals are trained) Anyways, I'd recomend this film to anyone with a young heart, and a few young kids...just know what your kids can handle because the film can get a bit too intense.
Movie Review: White Fang Summary: 5 Stars
Jack Conroy is a young gold hunter, who seeks for gold in the enormous and the snowy deserts of Alaska. He save one day, a mixed dogwolf from the hands of a cruel man, and a brave friendship develops between the two. The dogwolf, who named "the white fang" for it's sharp and white tooth, was left alone after his mother was killed by a hunter. After a while, the white fang was taken from jack, by a man who putted him in an illegal dog fighting pen, to fight other dogs. White Fang becomes a professional, experienced and a cruel killer. But unexpectedly, jack meets him again after a long term, and they return to be friends. When a group of criminals wants to steal Jack's gold, White Fang is the only one who can help him to fight them off. Wonderful story for kids and grownups of all ages with some of the most scenic and beautiful photography, around the towns of Halnes & Skagway Alaska, ever put on film. I guarantee you will thoroughly enjoy this movie.
Movie Review: Great Movie for the Family Summary: 5 Stars
I love the wilderness and I am a great lover of the gold rush stories in Alaska having grown up reading Jack London's books. White Fang is similar to "The Call of the Wild." However, "White Fang" features a teen befriending a wolf in a similar plot. The movie, in my opinion, is a timeless family piece about love and loyalties, good triumphs over evil, and what good old fashioned work ethics can do for a person. I'd certainly show this movie over and over to the children I do not yet have. I'd watch it with them as there are, of course, scenes with natural violence, such as when White Fang fights off a grizzly bear to save his master. My favorite thing about the movie is the beauty of the filming and that it feels authentic of its portrayal of a gold camp and town in old Alaska. The scenery is breathtaking! This film is similar to many other Disney productions, it will never get old! An excellent purchase!
Movie Review: A great story, visually beautifull!! Summary: 5 Stars
White Fang is one of my personal favorites in the post walt era of disney live action movies. It has nearly all the elements that make a first rate movie, and nearly all the elements that make a classic disney favorite. White Fang has been done before, true, but make no mistake, this is a stylish and beautiful production, kind of like, what do you get when you cross,(theme wise) 'Never Cry wolf' with 'The Journey of Natty Gann.' Jeanne Rosenberg (The Black Stallion) contributed to the script,Randal Kleiser directed, personally I think the best film he's ever worked on.It appears every effort was made to extract as many visually beauty shots as possible. Ethan Hawke and Klaus Maria Brandauer both put in first rate performances! But the real star is the wolf,(returning from his other great performance in 'The Journey of Natty Gann'). An exceptional family film!
Movie Review: A must see movie!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This is an absolutely incredible story that touches your soul and warms your heart. The development of the relationship between a younger and an older man, compliments and mirrors in many ways the development of the relationship between the young man and the wolf/dog. Compassion, trust, love, pain...all of these abound in this movie. In addition to the touching story is the awesome Alaskan landcape and sceenery. We own this movie and have watched it many times, yet we never tire of it's honesty. A highly recommended movie...You won't be dissapointed!!!
