Movie Reviews of When a Stranger Calls

Movie Review: A Better Remake
Summary: 5 Stars

I own the original and sequel for When A Stranger Calls. As a child they terrified me, but now they hardly affect me. There were some scenes in the original that had perfect spooky atmosphere, but the payoff is not nearly as well as in this remake.

I am of the opinion that this remake is better than the original (unlike remakes for The Fog, Psycho etc). One of the great things about this movie is that it retains it's spooky atmosphere that made the original a hit. In fact, I'd say this movie improves on the original in having more "what's going to happen next" moments. The enormous size of the house makes you wonder where the killer is and until the end we pretty much don't know. One thing that was a disappointment with this movie is that they ended it in a hospital "nightmare" scene ala Friday The 13th movies that did this. Another disappointment was when the babysitter talked to her friends on the phone and the scene shifted to a school party in the woods. This remake reminded me of Halloween in that it refused to show gore (which really isn't needed to show someone is dead) and relied on atmosphere and not knowing where the killer is.

The great thing about the original movie is that it left you feeling trapped in the house with the babysitter. Besides these to minor complaints I feel this movie much improved on the original and is worth a rental at least to see if you like it, if you saw & liked it I highly recommend buying it.

Movie Review: What's everyone whining about?
Summary: 5 Stars

Maybe it's because I love suspense movies. Maybe it's because this is the first scary movie I ever saw in theaters and it holds a spot in my heart. But I personally loved this movie.

People are complaining about it being cliche and boring. For the cliche part: Hello! Come on, it's a remake of a seventies movie. How can you expect them to butcher it and make it all modern and crappy. If they'd made it modern and uncliche, you'd be complaining that they didn't stick to he original. Can't you people be pleased with anything?

The story goes that this girl Jill (Camilla Belle) has run up her cell phone minutes, and has to pay a huge bill. So she babysits for this wealthy family with a cool house. Little does she know that there's someone waiting for her...

Personally, I thought the movie was amazing. I've grown up on suspense movies, which was why it surprised me that this one scare me so much. I had to leave the theater twice, because I couldn't handle it. As I said before, it was the first scary movie I'd ever seen in theaters, and I was alone, so I got creeped out a bit.

Even when we brought it home, it scared me. My mother loved it, as it stayed mostly faithful to the seventies version. My dad refused to watch it, ebcause he says it's a chick flick thriller.

Movie Review: Intense, suspenseful and scary - much better than the 1979 original
Summary: 5 Stars

I went to see the original film back in 1979 when it was first released and was vastly disappointed, especially with the very best part of the film during the first twenty minutes or so, while the rest of the film was quite dull until the unlikely and unrealistic ending. I have to say that I found this remake to be everything that the original film wasn't. It really delivered what the original promised and failed miserably at. It is one of the very best horror remakes to be found and one of the very best horror films for years, period. This new film version kept me on the edge of my seat for most of the 87 minute running time. It took a beautiful, lavish, state-of-the-art, modern home and made it a scary place to be with a lot of dark corners and hallways and strange noises. It is most definitely not a film to watch before babysitting or going home alone to an empty house at night. It is like a thrill ride that never lets up the pace until the very end. The violence is not at all graphic and the murders take place off-screen. It definitely scores a bullseye in the suspense department though and it fully succeeds in creating a real sense of mounting dread and tension throughout the entire film. Make sure to see it with someone you can hold onto!! Don't miss it!! Highly recommended and a vastly underrated film!!

Movie Review: ' Camilla Belle is so fine"
Summary: 5 Stars

Thats one of the reasons that i went to see the movie in theaters the day it came out. the other reason is that ima big fan of the original when a stranger calls and when i saw the previews for the new one i said, "damn that bitch is fine," then, "that movie looks good ima go see that," and i did, and it was great. Like i said Camilla Belle is fine and really hot too. Shes from the disney channel movie Rip Girls. When she was way younger probably 10, 11 yrs old! I love that movie too. So if youre a thriller fan you should go see this. I will have to admit there are some slow parts but other than that the movie was great. So Camilla why dont u and me hook up sometime and we could u know go out, eat, u pay, hehehehe, i aint got no money. Heres my number, 1800-p-u-s-h i-t, thats 1800 c-a-l-l a-t-t! just jokin. CAMILLA BELLE IS HOT!

Movie Review: GREAT DATE MOVIE!
Summary: 5 Stars

Ok so I went on a date to see this movie, and loved it... it was a lot of fun to jump with the quick scares and make fun of the stupid baby sitter..

I always thought this was a GREAT story and the remake is creepy as hell.. I love how when the killer shows up you never see his face.. even if he is right there.. until the very end..

I think what could make this movie better would have been if they could have Completely kept the punchline hidden until time to reveal.. the whole "THE CALL IS COMING FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE" they should have left that out of the preview.. there are some people who didn't know that was coming.. and If they never showed the killers face even at the end.. just keep it creepy and scary..

but yeah!

ok later

peace out!
