When A Stranger Calls
Rating* R

In my opinion, this would have to be one of the scariest horror films I have ever seen, and I've seen a lot of horror films. Having the first 20 minutes of complete terror, this film scared the hell out of me. Much different than the remake, which was released a while ago on DVD, this original is "Much" scarier and is "Much" more scarier to watch.

Jill Johnson is an average high schooler. Like most of the high schooled girls, she babysits. Deciding to babysit one night for a family called the Mandrakises.

Babysitting their two young children that have the flu, Jill starts to get wierd phone calls asking her if she checked the children lately.

A night of babysitting turns into a night of pure terror for Jill as she discovers the children were brutally murdered and a psycho tries to murder her.

Jill escapes form the killer and the killer is sent to a medical hospital. The killer's name is Curt Duncan, a man that is "completey" crazy.

After escaping the hospital 7 years later and getting off his medication, he begins to terroize Jill and her family.

I highly recommend this, and if you have seen the remake and not this, don't think this is like the remake because it is not. The 20 minutes of the original is the whole movie of the remake. I found the remake "dull". I don't get this though;

1. Original: The children are murdered and are dead the whole time. Scary.
Remake: The children survive. Not Scary.

2. Original: The Stranger keeps saying, "Have you checked the children". Not because he cares. It's BECAUSE HE IS WAITING UPSTAIRS FOR HER: Scary.
Remake: Jill checks the children and they are sleeping safely. Not scary.

3. Original: The Stranger comes for Jill 7 years later and HER kids. Scary.
Remake: Jill has a nightmare in the hospital. Not Scary.

4. Original: Carol Kane actually looks scared to death: Scary.
Remake: Camilla Belle basically whines a lot. Not scary.

One sentence, "Much better than the remake."
Hope you enjoy! Don't watch when you're alone in the house!

Movie Review: "Great Suspense"
Summary: 5 Stars

I remember seeing "When A Stranger Calls" one fateful Friday night on television way back in 1981. I was 14 years old and babysitting to make some pocket money. I had never heard of the film, but since this was the era of people having only two or three channels to view and there was nothing else on I watched this movie. To say I was a wreck after the film is an understatement. This is one of those films that doesn't have blood, guts, and gore, which are the usual gimmicks for horror movies. The movie is pure suspense and is best defined as one of those films as being a psychological thriller. The movie's thrills and rides are in the imagination of the audience as we watch a babysitter being terrorized by a crazed pschopath making obscene phone calls to the home in which she is babysitting. To make matters worse she soons discovers the phone calls are being made from the same house where she is taking care of two children. Carol Kane is heartbreaking as the babysitter, and although the movie is well over 30 years old, it still holds a special place in my heart as being one of the scariest films I have ever viewed. A remake was made in 2006, but that pales in comparison to this classic. If your babysitting some night do not watch this...believe me it will freighten you!

Movie Review: The BEST scary movie
Summary: 5 Stars

There are only two movies in which I have ejected myself out of my seat in terror while screaming -they are Wait Until Dark with Audrey Hepburn and the original When A Stranger Calls. Just thinking about it creeps me out and I only saw it once... 28 years ago! I remember telling a friend about the babysitting scene while taking a stroll through some trees and freaking us both out! The neat part about this thriller is that there wasn't a speck of blood, no gore--simply the conceptual implication. It is a fantastic psychological thriller through and through. Carol Kane and Charles Durning were perfectly cast for their roles.

This movie has been giving chills since I was like 6 or 7. I used to watch it all the time and never ever wanted to baby-sit. I'm only 13 but it is probably one of my favorite scary movie's. It was originally released in 1979 and then was followed by a 1993 t.v. sequel When A Stranger Calls Back. Now 28 years later they finally did a remake starring Camilla Belle (Disney's Rip Girls) with even more horror and suspense. I highly reccommend this movie aswell as

(2006) When a Stranger Calls Now In Theater's

Movie Review: The fabulous "Original"
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie is by far, one of my all time favorite suspense movies.. The first 15 minutes will leave your heart pounding! The remake of "When a Stranger Calls" was and is horrible! A totally cheap imitation of this classic! Before you go and purchase the remake..DON'T! Buy this one instead. You won't be disappointed!
