Movie Review: Wacky and screwball at its best

There really isn't much to say about "What's Up Doc"? except go see it. A lovable screwball comedy at its best. Peter Bogdonavich and his highly talented cast take us on a merry ride that results in laugh after laugh. My only quibble with the DVD is that Barbra Streisand's commentary is confined to 4 scenes in the film. During the grand chase scene she does not say much. I expected her to give us more information on the making of the film. I haven't listened to Peter Bogdonavich's commentary and that will probably be more enlightened. Genuine screwball comedy may be one of the toughest cinematic feats to pull off. Alot of directors, including Speilberg, have tried and screwed up, but very few have achieved genuine anarchic, screwball style; Bogdanovich does it ecstatically with Doc. Perhaps one of the reasons films of the seventies are considered so extraordinary is that titles such as Godfather, Exorcist and Chinatown, etc, achieved the high water mark for their respective genres. So it can be said of What's Up, Doc, which not only holds up beautifully but seems even funnier with the passage of years. Do we dare say classic? Yup.Movie Review: Favorite Moment

When all of the characters,in the house of some academician, are scrambling to retrieve handbags that all look identicle. They all struggle with each other, fight, and ultimately a gun is drawn and slapped away. Best moment for me is when a maid who has to be 80-something years old, wearing coke-bottle glasses, and a confused look on her face, picks up the pistol and starts firing it haphazardly around the room. Even by current standards of sensitivity towards shootings in public places, when most wouldn't (and shouldn't)find humor in such random negligence, this gag still kills (in the best sense).Movie Review: Timeless comedy classic

What's Up Doc is a timeless comedy classic that shows Ryan O'Neal and Barbra Streisand at their funny best. If you like to laugh and appreciate good gags, this movie is a good one to have and watch. The late, great Madeline Kahn makes her feature film debut in this movie and her performance is priceless as well. The entire movie builds up to the final scene where O'Neal utters his absolutely perfect final line, but you have to know a little movie history and be familiar with his work to get it. No spoilers here - you will have to get a copy and watch, and enjoy! Good clean family fun.Movie Review: Tons of laughs!!!

This is one very funny movie-one that the whole family can enjoy together without the threat of boredom. This writer is one for one-liners, puns, and jokes of all sorts and this movie allowed me to rant and rave about it's funny points. The entire cast does a great job under the great direction of Peter Bogdanovich. From beginning to end this movie will have you laughing, giggling, clapping, and smiling all the way through. The cinema was packed for this film when it opened back in the 70's. I'm glad it came out on DVD. Great viewing for the whole family. Enjoy!!!
