Movie Reviews of What's Up, Doc?Movie Review: Streisand's finest comic showcase... Summary: 5 Stars
Perhaps it's because the large, colorful, high-spirited cast works as an ensemble that this is the movie non-Streisand addicts seem to like best. Certainly she's delightful in it, sparkling and kooky, and Peter Bogdanovich evens lets her sing a bit("You're The Top", behind the opening credits, features an incredible Barbra vocal). The film looks amazing on DVD widescreen and Streisand's scene-specific commentary is wonderful(personally, I like the scene-specific option much better, the actress isn't stuck having to comment over 94 minutes of screen time and can just give her freshest recollections). A wild, cartoony comedy with lots of sight-gags and big laughs. My favorite line? "I have ledge-aphobia".
Movie Review: One of the funniest movies of all time Summary: 5 Stars
Can you imagine making your acting debut in a movie of this quality? Madeline Kahn began her brilliant career as a spot-on type A personality engaged to Howard Bannister, the ultimate absent-minded professor. Ryan ONeal likewise redeemed his reputation after his syrupy experience with Love Story. Streisand portrays the high-powered whirlwind interloper. Spies, real car chases, jewel thieves, and a cascade of mix-ups and wrong turns round out one of the most deftly directed comedies ever. This is a real comedy -- you actually laugh while watching it, sometimes to the point of tears. Watch What's Up Doc as a family. Many of the lines will become part of your family communication tradition.
Movie Review: Loved it then, Love it now! Summary: 5 Stars
By far one of the most enduring and enjoyable films I have ever seen. Streisand is definately at the peak of her comedic form. The amazing cast of supporting actors bring brilliant variety and color to the crazy plot. I applaude Madeline Kahn for her role of Eunice, the nagging future wife of Howard Banister, played by Ryan O'Neil. An adventure throughout early 1970's San Francisco is brilliant and the philanthropist played by Austin Pendelton is fantastic. I cannot say enough good things about this film, it is perfect! And now it is finally coming to DVD, AMEN! Even if you are not a Streisand fan, you will be after experiencing this movie. It's the top...
Movie Review: Best Streisand Film of All Time!! Summary: 5 Stars
My whole family loves this movie!! My 11-year-old watched the t.v. version, which had so many scenes cut from it, so we have to watch the unedited version. She cracks up like I do!! Despite the fact that I can repeat a lot of the lines ("Judy, I can't see! Oh, God, I can see!" says Howard Bannister as he's driving the stolen VW Bug before he tosses his glasses out the window and before they drive into San Francisco Bay! Remember, that's Unlawful use of public water, and Grand Larceny for the stolen car!) This is a definite addition for any movie collector. Now, if they would only offer Bringing Up Baby for DVD.
Movie Review: Comedy Talent from all actors in this timeless piece of art! Summary: 5 Stars
My favorite Barbra Streisand movies are her comedies from the 70's. They are fresh, funny and Babs is such a natural at comedy. I wish she would do more comedy films. This film What's Up, Doc? Is a classic! It has all the good stuff to make you laugh so hard your belly will be aching for hours. Wonderful comedic timing by such greats as: Barbra Streisand, Ryan O'neal and of course this was Madaline Kahn's first movie. She is a real scream in this. Add the slapstick, car chase, kidnapping, hotel fire and funny script you have a perfect recipe for a classic comedy!!
