Movie Reviews of Westworld

Movie Review: "welcome to delos, have we got a vacation for you"!!!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

special effects have come along way from 1974 when westworld first came out,but this little gem still hangs head and shoulders above most sci-fi entertainment.
welcome to delos, vacation spot of the future, where you can have a once and a lifetime fantasy come true. you may choose westworld, romanworld, and meadevilworld! you can,for $1000.00 a day(1974 prices) you can live out your most secert fantisies.it's all set up to please you and you can't get hurt. of course if that were true then we have no movie. soon after the latest batch of people get to the park, the robots begin to have breakdowns, like a virus(i still remember the reviews calling the idea of computers getting viruses as "to far out there,no one will believe it" wonder if they still think so). james brolin and richard benjemin are two friends enjoying westworld when the whole park goes on the blink and the robots start to kill thr guest.
the final chase(with evil robot yul brynner, still dressed as chris from his stint in the maganfict seven cloths)is very thrilling and the whole movie has the feel of a park ride gone bad. a very fun movie.

Movie Review: It's the original Terminator!
Summary: 5 Stars

Even though the Terminator had better special effects, I still remember getting the [...] scared out of me from Yul Brynner's menacing walk as a small child. He just wouldn't stop! And, sure enough, that was no coincidence that the terminator mirrored Westworld. The same director did both movies, Michael Crichton. Well, son-of-a-gun! The stuff I don't know as a child sure creates a big impact. Even though I love to watch all the extras that are on movies nowadays, it's very fortunate I didn't have access to all this new technology back then. It would've spoiled the thrill when I was little; I'm only speaking about myself, of course. What a great movie!

1-06-10 Update
I made an error stating Michael Crichton directed the Terminator. A reviewer mentioned that James Cameron directed The Terminator. I looked up IMDB and found out that Michael Crichton wrote the screenplay for Jurassic Park (1993). Now it makes sense. Both are future thrill parks, and something terribly wrong happens involving terror to the guests. Yul Brynner is still the original Terminator in my mind. Have fun watching the movies!

Movie Review: Howdy Pardner... BLAM! BLAM! ... Click... Bzzzzzzz ...
Summary: 5 Stars

WESTWORLD was far ahead of it's time. Michael Crichton directed this movie years before his Jurassic Park book / movies existed. The whole idea of an amusement park where the attractions go berserk was done in WW in the dark ages of 1973! The main villain, a relentless, unstoppable android, was in WW a decade before Cameron's Terminator tore up the box office. Yul Brynner's smirk and silver eyes are unforgettable! His menacing walk is haunting and scary. Dressed all in black, this robo-gunslinger is the personification of one of our deepest fears, that one day the machines we depend on / use, will get smart and no longer find us necessary! Richard Benjamin and James Brolin are the two saps who stumble into the middle of WESTWORLD's meltdown. They think they're in for a nice exotic vacation. In reality, they are scheduled for an ice-cold dose of raw desperation! Will either of them survive? Watch and see! Highly recommended...

Movie Review: Robots Gone Bad!
Summary: 5 Stars

Yul Brynner, James Brolin, and Richard Benjamin star in this outstanding Sci-Fi piece by genre uberlord Michael Crichton ("Jurassic Park," "The Andromeda Strain") about DELOS, a futuristic theme park where you can spend a week in Medieval World, Roman World, or Westworld, living as the folks from those periods did, including much rape, murder, and various other saucy vacation mayhem. Yul, in a role that obviously inspired Arnold's Terminator character, decides that being the guy (or robot in this case) who always loses the gunfight, ain't really the way to go, and sets off on a gunslinging rampage through ALL of the various period worlds, this time with a REAL gun shooting REAL bullets, where he now always WINS! Pic actually spawned a nifty sequel starring Gwenny Paltrow's mom, Blythe Danner, called "Futureworld."

Movie Review: A true classic
Summary: 5 Stars

Filmed by the late Michael Critchton and a stone-faced performance by Yul Brynner as the unstoppable gunslinger, WESTWORLD is, though somewhat dated, a real wild ride. James Brolin and Richard Benjamin go to an ultra-high tech amusement park for a vacation -- it consists of Roman World, Medeviel World and West World. Each is inhabited by robots who are dead ringers for human and to provide thrilling entertainment with no harm to the guests. Brolin and Benjamin go to Westworld to live out their fantasy in the old west and that's when things go nuts. No extras and not the best transfer but still a must for any scifi dvd collection.
