Movie Reviews of Westworld

Movie Review: Great Sci-fi flick!
Summary: 5 Stars

In the future, there is a special adult themepark called "Delos" which has three different area adventure worlds which are "Medieval World", "West World", and "Roman World" where realistic humanoid robots serve the guests with the vacation they will remember. Two Vacationers ( Richard Benjamin and James Brolin) has chosen Westworld where they can do anything they want but unfortunately as there's a malfuction the robots completely go bersek especially a deadly gunslinging robot ( Yul Bryner) who wants to kill them.

Amusing and fascinating Sci-fi thriller written and directed by the author of "Jurassic Park" Michael Crichton with some fine acting and good special effects for it's time. Yul Bryner himself steals the show as the bad guy who was an influence on "The Terminator", this has became a cult fave and one of the most interesting pre-Star Wars Sci-fi movies of that time and was parodied in the episode of the Simpsons called "Itchy and Scratchy Land".

The DVD has decent picture & sound with only one extras which is the original trailer, but still this is a must have for anyone who likes Sci-fi.

Also recommended: Jurassic Park, Terminator 1 & 2, Blade Runner, Tron, Robocop, I Robot, and Chopping Mall.

Movie Review: A MOST entertaining film!
Summary: 5 Stars

This film is a real kick! I liked very much it when I first saw it in the '70's right after it came out, and still enjoy watching it. Anyone who likes this genre should enjoy it as well.

Yul Brenner- one of my all time favorite actors- in his role as the psycho, hyper focused, relentless robot villain performs flawlessly; in fact, all performances in the film are very high quality. In addition, in my opinion, the story is quite unique, and is weirdly compelling- just so off the wall! Also, for the era in which it was made, the special effects are quite good. It's not a story that one need take seriously- it's just pure sci-fi entertainment. My two teenage daughters- who are somewhat jaded as far as movie effects go- just loved the film.

I DO have a question for anyone who cares to post a response in their review of this film: There was a sequel made to Westworld called- <u>"Futureworld"</u>. As I recall, it was just as much fun as its predecessor. Along with Yul Brenner back as the 'evil' robot guy, it also stars Peter Fonda. I have been trying to find it for sale with no success, and am wondering if anyone out there might know whether it has been released for sale on DVD yet? Thanks!

Movie Review: WeStWoRlD where nothing can go wrong..go worng..go wgrno
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw this film when it was first released, seeing it on the widescreen was quite enjoyable. The story is about a futuristic
amusement park ($1000 a week) called Delos which has 3 areas.
RomanWorld,MedievalWorld and WestWorld.
James Brolin and Richard Benjamin are the main characters in the film,Brolin being the "park vet" having been there already and bringing his pal Benjamin for his first time.
Everything is fine at first. Brolin coaxes his pal to blast the
gunslinger (Yul Brynner) who's at the bar with them and who's giving Benjamin a hard time.
He finally blasts The gunslinger in all the bloody gore
a full scale fight breaks out in the saloon.
At night when it's quiet, the technicians very stealthily come up from the underground control room to collect all of the shotup
robots for repair. (Pretty convincing looking repairing)
The plot is there's a virus attacking the robots central nervous systems causing them to kill the guests in all the parks
Watch for the gunslinger chasing hapless Richard Benjamin
all over Delos trying to kill him
An enjoyable film full of suspense & chills
keep some acid closeby

Movie Review: Made Me a Yul Brynner Fan
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw this film back in 1975 as an 8 year old. I loved it then and it still holds up for me years later. Yul Brynner's role as the robot gunslinger really left an impact on me. He really is the highlight of the film, although there are many other good things to watch Westworld for. It is not the best sci-fi flick ever made, but I still feel that it holds up today as an entertaining movie. The musical score by Fred Karlin is especially disturbing at times and it really added to the excitement of the last part of the movie. Yul Brynner modeled his robot gunslinger after the character he portrayed in The Magnificent Seven. The first part of the movie follows a number of guests as they travel in to the world of their choice in Delos, a theme park of the future where eventually things go terribly wrong and most of the guests are killed off with the last part of the movie dealing with Yul Brynner tracking down Richard Benjamin with only one purpose...to kill him. Suspenseful action, a chilling musical score, good acting and an ending that left me drained when I originally saw it make this a movie worth watching. What are you waiting for...watch this movie today!

Movie Review: A real gem is hidden here. Precursor to Terminator
Summary: 5 Stars

At Westworld you can live out your fantasies: you can be a western gunslinger, a lusty medieval lord, or a decadent Roman aristocrat. You will be surrounded by lifelike androids ready to indulge you in your *every* whim, and that means every whim. Every android damaged by you will be resurrected during the night. You might be a whimp in real life, but here you are a king! Paradise!
Westworld is the utlimate escape fantasy for wealthy adults. This film has a quite long introduction, showing how the humans abuse the androids. The tables turn suddenly. The androids are too well made, and have developed consciuosness, and rebel against their tormentors.
We associate with the androids; they are more real in their suffering than the humans in their selfindulgence. The last remaining human's escape takes him throughout the amusement park. He is shocked when he sees all the horrors inflicted upon the androids by uncaring humans.
Yul Brunner plays the avenging gunslinger. His role is similar to Arnold Schwarzenegger's in Terminator, but Brunner lends his character a gravitas totally lacking in Schwarzenegger.
