Movie Reviews of Welcome to the Dollhouse

Movie Review: you go grrl
Summary: 5 Stars

The first time I saw this movie, I didn't like it because of the cruelty toward Dawn. It upset me to see her treated that way. She didn't deserve it. I missed the humor because I was so upset.
Then I watched it again and loved it. Dawn was the coolest! What a survivor! She showed courage and panache (and became very attractive- yes I said attractive).
On the second viewing, I laughed plenty. Dawn's brother was hilarious in his attempt to beef up his college application. The song at the end was hilarious. Brendon Sexton pushing her away when she tried to kiss him and then pulling her back and saying: "I make the first move." - good writing.
Dawn, you can kiss me anytime.

Movie Review: Welcome to the Dollhouse
Summary: 5 Stars

A harrowingly accurate, darkly hilarious look at that time of life most of us would prefer to forget, Solondz's portrait of gawky pre-adolescence visits all the landmarks of childhood hell: peer abuse, sexual awkwardness, and the general sense that people are the source of all misery. Matarazzo is fantastic as the ostracized, alienated tween who suffers the insults and indignities of her peers with stoic resignation. Sexton ("Kids") also registers well as Dawn's cruel, glowering classmate. "Dollhouse" isn't for younger kids, but teens and grown-ups will appreciate its bitingly funny blend of pathos and punishment.

Movie Review: What's so funny?
Summary: 5 Stars

After watching this movie, such depression. The only people I can see whom would place this movie in the comedy genre had to have been smoking massive quantities of crack cocaine and seriously has a lust for watching the human spirit be beaten down like a helpless, defenseless puppy. I threw up after watching it. The only movie worse then this is 'Palindromes' that wreaks of the same downward spiral that is the rancid taste of bile from the throat of hell, that this movie burped. I gave this 3 stars because the one good quality is the film making and directing. The writer however, should be ashamed of their self.

Movie Review: wow....
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm a fourteen-year-old girl, and after watching this film, I became very attached to the characters. Especially Dawn! She and I shared similar sentiments. For example, we both have had rather traumatic junior high experiences (although Dawn's is far worse than mine), and we both are extremely naive/desperately pathetic. Despite the movie's tendency to make every slightly humorous moment into something eerily dark, I loved this film. It stays so true to reality: for some, life is easy, and for other's it's so-so, but for people like Dawn and me, life (or in this case, junior high) will remain a neverending hell.

Movie Review: I LOVE this movie!!!

This is my all time fav movie ever. Brandon Sexton has a great role in this movie and is the best actor in the 1990's!!! Dawn Weiners is an 11-yr old and is presured into a family who neglects her. Her spoiled little sister, and her dorky brother is all the center of attention. At school Dawn is bullied by a boy (played by Brandon Sexton)who apposes her to rape. She has this crush on her brothers band member. Until he...i dont want to ruin it! And the rapist 7th grader... watch and find out! I can tell you this, I would change the ending. I would want Brandon to stay.
