Movie Reviews of Wayne's World

Movie Review: "We're Not Worthy! We're Not Worthy!!!"
Summary: 5 Stars

Based on the very popular Saturday Night Live sketch of the same name, Wayne's World stars Mike Myers and Dana Carvey as Wayne and Garth, two young adults who put on their own live local access TV show in their town of Aurora. The two will invite guests on to their show, talk of rock bands and music and of course talk about everything dealing with sexy women.

The film pretty much takes place as if we have known who Wayne and Garth are all along and shows us what it's like to live as them in their small Illinois town. Crusing the streets in the "Merth Mobile" singing Bohemian Rapsody with a few friends and eating donuts at their favorite hang out are just a few of the daily routines the duo go through after they finish with their show.

A local young and up coming Television Producer named Benjamin (Rob Lowe) catches their show one day and decides that Wayne's World will be the perfect show to put onto regular TV along with a sponsor. Of course he has to talk the two of them into doing it, nothing that two $5000 checks can't help. Along the way Wayne meets the love of his life, Cassandra, (Tia Carrere) a young asian rock singer who is just trying to get a break into the big time music business with her band. Wayne and Cassandra hit it off and it's a match made in heaven. But of course Ben also seems to take an intrest in Cassandra and Wayne starts to become jealous. He loses everything due to him.. his TV show, Garth's friendship, his girl.. how will he fix everything get his girl a contract and will he live happily ever after or will Ben and Cassandra wind up together on some tropical island leaving Wayne and Garth with nothing? Well you will just have to watch and see for yourself won't you?

This movie was a hit and for good reason. The characters contrast each other quite well. Wayne is smart and charismatic and tells it like it is while always showing his jealous side and Garth is the loyal sidekick who is soft spoken and smart but doesn't have much to say but when he does, it's usually something out there that will make you wonder where he came up with such things. This movie put Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody back in the minds of everyone due to the hillarious situation with them singing said song as they cruise the neighborhood. It just takes random moments and turns them into something fun. Whether its at a donut shop or behind the scenes of an Alice cooper concert everywhere we are taken is an enjoyable and often funny moment. The two stars seem to realize they aren't even in a real situation, often talking to the cameras as if they were talking to the camera man personaly and they even decide they want to change an ending if they don't like it. It has the same charm that Myers' Austin Powers movies have where we can't think too deeply into it or you lose the joke of the situation we are trapped in.

The film is short and to the point, as most good slapstick type comedies (Scary Movie and Naked Gun for instance) should be. It will have our attention and while it may not be the most creative or original of moments, they just work really well. It's not easy to take a short SNL sketch and turn it into not one but two hit movies. A lot of attempts were made (coneheads and It's Pat and more..) and failed miserably. Here is proof that when you have a good script, good actors and funny moments a TV sketch turned full length comedy will work quite well.

The only special features are a commentary by the director and a few short tidbits given to us by the actors of the film about things we may be interested in that happend during the movie. Could have been more but for the price the movie alone is more then enough.

Definitely give it a view. You won't be sorry you did. Sure you will get a new apprecaition of Queen and donuts but when the guy still living his his mom's basement and doesn't have a real job ends up with the hot chick at the end, it's never a bad thing now is is :).
