Movie Reviews of Watch Out, We're MadMovie Review: Plenty of replay value, from stunts, comedy gags, action scenes Summary: 3 Stars
Altrimenti ci arrabbiamo! - "Watch Out, We're Mad" (1974) is
culturally, very European and perhaps archaeological to today's
Millennial and Gen-X audience, while traditionalists and Baby will
see its genius.
This one has plenty of replay value. A trained eye will perceive
the enormous effort behind the scenes, in assembling the litany of
dare-devil, lethal and spectacular stunts done throughout, ranging
from demolition derbies, or jumps on motocross, cars set on fire
and moving and the non-stop action.
The anthem of this picture, is "Dune Buggy" - a vehicle that is the
top prize for the best driver at a rally and demolition derby
competition.
It turns out, Spencer wins the prize, but things turn sour, when
the local mob clique - used to shaking down a massive amusement
park, coming close to wiping it off the map - turns their attention
to that dune buggy, destroying it.
For Spencer and Hill - showing enormous self-confidence, stoicism
and unshakable nerves in almost every circumstance - this is too
much to bear, and they retaliate.
The director's goal, is obviously an upbeat and uplifting comedy
and entertainment product for the family and teen segment and
delivers.
Despite a sometimes VHS-quality picture on the DVD in 4 x 3, this
is not a hindrance, as there is no intention in wooing the audience
with photography, although the editing is beyond reproach as are
the angles of the scenes.
The gags run in the hundreds, starting with exotic birds ( seen in
other movies), but also the rural setting ( apparently in Italy ),
with a backdrop of sheep, cows, chickens, horses at times, also
showing the clay tile rooftops and stone homes. Car chases are
showsni in a typical hyper-concentrated, tight alleys and streets
European city, Part of the action is in the amusement park, back on
its feet, with ferris wheel, merry-go-round, bumper cars, strength
competitions, high-wire act, etc Other gags are getting drinks and
coins from a vending machine, tripping a waiter, literally crashing
a party to which they were not invited and declined at the
entrance, driving up and down the banquet room's staircase, with an
actual subcompact car, etc
The lead actors, are casual in drinking a Pilsner bock, and dining
a sour kraut and sausage and, others smoking cigars - somewhat rare
in today's politically correct movies.
Finally, there is no letdown, in showing many scenes with Spencer
and Hill coming to blows with opponents, done to perfection, as
they let their fists do the talking.
Movie Review: Mad only about the music! Summary: 3 Stars
Ok, the music didn't really anger me but it did get anoying after a while. For all those that are familiar w/ the Terrence Hill and Bud Spencer line of movies its not anything you couldn't stomach and for the most part laugh at. For those that are new to this particular genre of slap stick comedy, you should probably start off w/ a Trinity movie or two before you work your way up to this one. The overall quality of this transfer to DVD is good, but you'll have to adjust the volume at various points in the movie. "Two Men, One Dune Buggy, and a Mob Boss who stands between them." Good clean fun!
Movie Review: It's really not a star ratings type movie- but it's good Summary: 3 Stars
We purchased the movie because we enjoyed the Trinity series so much. The movie has three really enjoyable scenes that made the purchase really worth it. However much of the movie was filled with bizzare and slow moving scenes that at times made the movie trying. My thoughts are purchase the movie, watch it at some time when you really don't want to think about anything else, enjoy the good scenes, and take the rest for what it is. The movie is child friendly and could be watched in a family setting.
Movie Review: Great film, terrible DVD Summary: 3 Stars
The movie itself is fantastic.
The DVD quality is pretty poor. I get the impression that the absolute minimum amount of effort went into putting the DVD together. Picture and sound quality could do with cleaning up a lot, there are no special features (unless you count a page of text).
In short I recommend buying this DVD to anyone who likes the film, but don't expect DVD quality.
Movie Review: Big Disappointment Summary: 2 Stars
I am a huge fan of the "Trinity" movies by these guys and after reading the online reviews I thought this might be a fun gift for my husband. Whoops...big mistake, we both found the movie boring and the humor rather silly. Two thumbs down.
