Movie Reviews of Warm Springs

Movie Review: GREAT movie! Shows the personal side of FDR brilliantly!
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw this movie on HBO and I can't wait to get it on DVD. I ordered one for my grandmother also as FDR was her favorite president. I know that she will love it too! The movie is very moving. FDR is brilliantly played by Kenneth Branagh (Professor Gilderoy Lockhart in the Harry Potter movies). FDR was so sympathetic to others less fortunate than himself, whether they had polio or were just extremely impoverished. Also, it really shows how strong his wife Eleanor was -- played by Cynthia Nixon (Sex in the City.) The actors in this movie ALL did an amazing job. This is an unbelievably interesting movie on FDR's pre-president days. Don't hesitate! You WILL love this movie!

Movie Review: An Excellent Biopic Of The Struggle America Never Saw.
Summary: 5 Stars

Four-time Academy Award nominee Kenneth Branagh ("Henry V," "Dead Again," "Much Ado About Nothing," "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein," "William Shakespeare's Hamlet," "Love's Labour's Lost") stars as Franklin Deleano Roosevelt in his pre-presidential years when he was stricken with polio. Branagh does very well in this film, sporting the real Franklin Deleano Roosevelt's American accent. Rounding out the cast is Cynthia Nixon ("Sex And The City") as Eleanor Roosevelt, Jane Alexander as FDR's domineering mother and Academy Award winner Kathy Bates (Best Actress, "Misery") as Helena Mahoney, the physical therapist. Great film. Rated TV-PG for mild language.

Movie Review: inspiring story!
Summary: 5 Stars

Kenneth Branagh is brilliant. Cynthia Nixon, less so, but convincing. Wonderfully filmed. How FDR came to terms with his polio is an inspiration. I would like to believe that 2006 is a more inclusive period in history in which people see 'difference' and not 'disability', but I think the record is mixed. I have read a lot about FDR. Conrad Black's FRANKLIN DELANO ROOSEVELT: CHAMPION OF FREEDOM is a recent one-volume biography which I would heartily recommend, as well as this film.

Movie Review: An excellent insight into FDR'S metamorphosis.
Summary: 5 Stars

"Warm Springs" is a masterpiece of story-telling about the changes FDR experienced through his struggles with polio and his other demons. It shows his very human side and his transformation from a vain, egotistical alcoholic and womanizer into the much-loved and admired president that he eventually became. This movie is a masterpiece of acting and story-telling. I enjoyed it very much and am so happy to add it to my movie library.

Movie Review: Excellent Transformation of FDR and Eleanor
Summary: 5 Stars

This excellent video shows how FDR changed from an elitist to a man of the people. Fantastic transformation. I remember his press agent saying to him "Roosevelt, what do you know about the people?"

And it shows how Eleanor also transformed to become more powerful and influencing. At one point FDR turns to Eleanor and says "Who are you?" showing how much she has changed.

Fantastic.
