Movie Reviews of Warm SpringsMovie Review: very disappointed! Summary: 1 Stars
Being a long time amateur FDR historian I was disappointed at the casting of the HBO production Warm Springs. Kenneth Branaugh, while probably an excellent actor was not at all convincing as FDR. Cynthia Nixon, likewise, in no way did justice to ER. Why in the world would you cast her as Eleanor and then cast Jane Alexander as Sara. Jane, as you know portrayed ER in an earlier production, Eleanor an Franklin, and was superb. I am baffled at why anyone would cast anyone other than Edward Hermann as FDR, who also portrayed him in Eleanor and Franklin. Another problem that I have with the outside of the cover of the DVD and in the preview clips is that it is said that FDR was our only three term President. Come on! Everyone knows that he was elected not 3 but 4 times to the presidency. Jane Alexandar, a great actress, is not portly enough to portray Sara Delano. Another question, is it historically accurate to suggest that FDR, while visiting a Boy Scout Camp contracted Polio? I had always understood that this incident happened at Campobello after a swim in the bay. On the positive side, it did show the inner struggle which undoubtedly had a large role in creating perhaps the greatest man of the century.
