Movie Reviews of War DanceMovie Review: Changed my life Summary: 5 Stars
I went with a friend who got tickets at the last minute during Sundance. We heard it might be an anti-war movie about the U.S.'s involvement in Iraq (or something like that...). Turned out to be about Ugandan children.
I have never cried so hard during a movie, and I wanted to leave because it was so tragic. But, it was also hopeful and extremely well-made. Probably the best documentary I've ever seen.
No one moved except to breath and cry in the packed theater in Park City.
I couldn't wait to get home to donate money to their organization and other charities!
Movie Review: Gut Wrenching & Inspirational! Summary: 5 Stars
You don't know me so I'm not going to pretend that my opinion is going to matter to you but I can honestly say that this is the best documentary I have ever seen. If you watch this movie and don't shed a tear, then you have no soul. The footage of Nancy and her mother visiting her father's grave site is gut wrenching and powerful beyond mere words. However, the message of hope and the healing power of music and dance is so inspirational that it is hard to believe that anyone who sees this film would not be moved. This film will change lives, it is that powerful. See it and believe.
Movie Review: This is a great, uplifting and enlightening documentary Summary: 5 Stars
I saw this Oscar-nominated documentary at the Hot Docs festival in Toronto last year. I see a lot of docs in my work and it's hard to hook me in-- but this one did. I found myself laughing and crying and cheering at the screen-- and standing for an ovation along with everyone in the audience. The film doesn't require a great deal of knowledge of Uganda's political situation, but will probably make you want to explore a bit more about the culture, traditions and travails of the country. And it's just a good film-- one that you can also likely watch with children or students.
Movie Review: Amazing Documentary!! Summary: 5 Stars
War/Dance is by far one of the most powerful documentaries I've ever seen. The way in which the children's horrific stories intertwine with their hopeful journey to the music and dance festival is truly remarkable. I laughed and cried and loved every minute of this film. The energy and determination of these kids is amazing! They persevere through the most difficult of circumstances. Everyone NEEDS TO SEE THIS FILM! If not just to watch a poignant story, but also to learn about Ugandan issues. I recommend War/Dance wholeheartedly and hope that everyone has a chance to see it!
Movie Review: Simply Complex Summary: 5 Stars
It's simple: War/Dance is one of the most important documentaries made in the last 10 years, at least. One of the most important and brilliant aspects of this film is the interweaving of tragedy and hope. The emotions in this film are human: raw and real. No matter who you are, or what you have experienced in your life, human emotions are always relateable. I believe this movie is simultaneously relateable and completely unbeleivable--beautiful and painful. I hold this film in the highest esteem for accomplishing tragic hope.
