Movie Reviews of Waiting for GuffmanMovie Review: Fantastic! Summary: 5 Stars
Guest has done it! I have new faith in the independent film circuit... Hell, in the whole film industry! Fred Willard and Katharine O'Hara are screen gems as Ron and Sheila Albertson, playing the small town big wigs with dillusional visions of a Hollywood life to come.Eugene Levy is a comic genius with his portrayal of Dr. Alan Pearl. The town Dentist with a hankering to recapture his childhood glory as an almost-classclown is too good to be true. Thank you Mr. Levy Parker Posey is a delicious Dairy Queen worker with an hysterical view of the New York City - "It's an Island, full of different people, with different ideas" Understated and subtle comic brilliance! Mr. Guest - Please make more!
Movie Review: Absolutely fantastic movie and DVD Summary: 5 Stars
If you have seen Best in Show, then this movie will have a very familiar feel. The cast is virtually identical, and there is a similar feel to the story and plot. Guest is awesome as Corky, the actor/director of the musical, Red White and Blaine. Parker Posey is very convincing as Libby Mae, the local DQ worker who gives her all to the production. The DVD has an awesome set of extra scenes. There are several extra numbers from the play, including some that should have never been deleted from the movie. Also, check out Libby Mae's alternate audition, which is bizarre and hilarious at the same time. Do you own Spinal Tap? Best in Show? Then you need to order this one right now.
Movie Review: LEVY AND GUEST DO IT AGAIN...DEFINITELY BEST OF SHOW! Summary: 5 Stars
Waiting For Guffman is hilarious through and through. With Parker Posey, Eugene Levy, Christopher Guest, Fred Willard and my fave Catherine O'Hara. The movie takes place in a rural town where Guests character is making a musical that could hit Broadway?.....They do a casting call at the local high school where they find a band of characters with no talent for a musical ready for disaster. Throughout this movie, Guffman is the character they are waiting for from New York on opening night - he could bring this musical to BROADWAY....enough said without spoiling the story. A fun movie that deserved more attention from critics, and Americans abroad. Rent it you'll love it.
Movie Review: Addictive! Summary: 5 Stars
The same old gang . . . playing the same kinds of roles as in Splash, Best in Show, Second City and the rest . . . but no less funny than any of their other work. It is amazing, how addictive this movie is. There are no special effects, no glamour, no fancy sets . . just a bunch of supposedly every-day kinds of people who, with their display of integrity and seriousness, mirrors how so many of us would react in the same situations. I have a real problem not perseverating with this move . . watching it over and over again! From Parker Posey's audition to Eugene Levy's Martian, or Christopher Guest's solo dancing, this movie is more than hysterical . . it is fun to watch.
Movie Review: Fun, funny and oh my gosh...intelligent! Summary: 5 Stars
Waiting for Guffman was one of those, I feel like seeing a movie but there is nothing good out, moments. Although, I had heard people say it was funny, it didnt convince me. Only when I was consumed by boredom in a small town and the desire to go out to see a movie, did I finally give it a shot. And then began my mission to make sure every person I knew saw it. The cast is excellent, quite a few "oh I know him's"......the format is documentary-esque.... the characters are different, raw and lovable, you will remember it and quote the lines. "I'll always have a home at the DQ" And the ending is a twist! You have to see this, I highly recommend it.
