Movie Reviews of WWE Unforgiven 2002

Movie Review: Angle/Benoit is the reason to watch this!
Summary: 4 Stars

Kane, Booker T, Goldust, Bubba Ray Dudley vs. The UnAmericans (Test, Christian, Lance Storm, William Regal) - I didn't care much for this opening matches. Tag matches with 8 men are seldom good as there is too much confusion and not enough time for wrestling. This ended pretty much how one might expect with everyone hitting their finishers. The match was one big mess.

Intercontinental Title: Chris Jericho (c) vs. Ric Flair - This was a much shorter match than I would have liked considering how good these two workers are. Jericho is the perfect "heel", and the ending to this match was classic.

Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero - Good match. These two can really go, and this pairing makes for a very interesting match. This would have been match of the night, if not for Angle/Benoit

Interpromotional Match: Billy & Chuck vs. Jamal & Rosey - I thought this match was junk. I've never cared for Jamal and Rosey or Billy and Chuck. The two big men are not very impressive in the ring. The gimmick for this match is that is the RAW team wins (Rosey and Jamal), Stephanie McMahon has to engage in some H.L.A. (Hot Lesbian Action). If the Smackdown team wins (Billy and Chuck), Eric Bischoff has to kiss the butt of Stephanie. The gimmick is the only reason this match wasn't completely pointless and uninteresting.

World Title Match: Triple H (c) vs. Rob Van Dam - After Bischoff created the World Championship for RAW, he gave the belt to Triple H. This is the first title defense of that gift of a belt. It isn't until the end of the match that RVD gets any offense in, and by that point we don't really believe he can win. Maybe it is just the pairing of the two wrestlers, but this wasn't that good of a match.

Women's Title: Molly Holly(c) vs. Trish Stratus - In a rematch from King of the Ring, this one falls short. The KOTR match was much better. This was what you would expect from a women's match. The women's division has improved significantly, but you wouldn't be able to tell from this match.

Kurt Angle vs. Chris Benoit - There is no question about it....this was the best match of the PPV! I watch quite a bit of wrestling, and this is the best match I have seen in a long time. This match featured quite a bit of chain wrestling with reversals, near falls and lots of action. Benoit and Angle put on a wrestling clinic. This match should go down as a classic, and had this been at a bigger PPV, it would be remembered for a long time.

WWE Title: Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Undertaker - How do you follow the Angle/Benoit classic? With a brawl. Despite Lesnar's amateur background, this was little more than a streetfight in the ring. Some power moves, but mostly punching and kicking. Not bad for what it was, but this is a forgettable match. The ending was a major disappointment and a horrible way to end a PPV. Had I been in the arena, I would have been booing just like the rest of the crowd.

This was a slightly better than average PPV, but it is elevated by the greatness that was the Kurt Angle/Chris Benoit match. It more than makes up for the main event, and redeems the entire program.

Movie Review: Great ppv
Summary: 4 Stars

When this ppv first happened, I thought it was aweful. But I just bought it for some reason, thinking it would be good, and boy was it ever. Here are the matches:

Kane, Booker T, Goldust, and Bubba Ray Dudley vs. The Un-Americans. This match was probably the worst on the DVD, but it was still pretty good. A bit sloppy, but what would u expect, 8 man tags are always sloppy. Booker T and all win with Kane nailing the Chokeslam. **

IC Title- Chris Jericho vs. Ric Flair. This match was actually pretty good. A few of Ric's old tricks were used by Jericho. Jericho fakes a leg injury, and when Flair turns his back, Jericho shows he faked it and locks on the Walls of Jericho for the win. ***

Interpromotion Tag Team Match. Billy & Chuck vs. Rosey & Jamal. Pretty good match. Billy and Chuck wrestled this match like it was their last match together(which it was but...). After a good battle, Rosey and Jamal get the win.

Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero. Probably the 2nd best match of the night. I think this was better than their Summerslam match. These two really put on a great match together, and should work together more often. Eddie gets the win thanks to a sunset flip off the second rope(after nailing Edge's head on the exposed post). ****

World Title- Triple H vs. Rob Van Dam. This match was ok, nothing special in my view. RVD doesnt take control til the very end. Ric Flair shocks the world by nailing RVD with a sledgehammer, and helping HHH retain the title. **

Women's Title- Trish vs. Molly. Pretty good, I think even better than the World Title match. I never really cared about this fued, but they did a good job with their match. Trish wins with the Stratusfaction. **1/2

Kurt Angle vs. Chris Benoit. Stole the show, no questions asked. I don't know how these guys do it, but just about every time they wrestle at a ppv, they steal the show, which makes me never get tired of these two men, heels or faces. Benoit wins thanks to his foot on the ropes(aaawww!!). *****

WWE Undisputed Title- Brock Lesner vs. Undertaker. This fued was extremely personal. I'm a huge Taker fan, and this was probably Taker's most personal fued from what I remember. This match was just like ppl say: a brutal war. These two beat the heck out of each other, unfortunately causing a double DQ. But just to show how pissed off he was, before the show was over, Taker fought Brock up to the stage, and threw Brock right thru the Unforgiven set, and in my opinion, making Brock Lesner famous. ***1/2

Extras include 5 bonus interviews, Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo from Sunday Night Heat, Undertaker's Desire video, and promos of RVD and Chris Benoit.

That is my opinion and review of this DVD. If ya asked everyone, they'd probably say rent this first, but me, I'd say go ahead and buy it.

Movie Review: One Of The Best PPV Since The Split
Summary: 4 Stars

This was the first PPV I saw live and man, it was a great show & looking back at it now...it still stands the test of time as one of the best WWE PPV's they've had over all they split up RAW & SmackDown.

Un-American's vs. Bubba Dudley, Booker T, Goldust, Kane - A fun six man opener and started to mark the end of the Un-Americans as they would split us the next night after losing the tag titles. It's comedy to see Bubba Ray & Goldust both mock Dusty Rhodes bionic elbow.

I.C. Champion Chris Jericho vs. Ric Flair - This was really the only dud because they were tryin' to put over a storyline for later in the night involving Flair instead of having a good match. This doesn't begin to touch their match the previous month at SummerSlam.

Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero - I remember being at this event & the crowd heavily cheered Eddie Guerrero (we were in L.A. afterall) & booed Edge. Another nice match between these two.

Billy & Chuck vs. 3 Minute Warning - A great tag team match between these two & because of this...Stephanie has to do HLA later in the night (to the cheers of every single male...and some females in the crowd)

World Champion Triple H vs. Rob Van Dam - Another good match between the two as RVD continued to mock HHH to everyone's delight but the ending came when Ric Flair (who HHH insulted before the match for losing earlier) hit RVD with the sledgehammer starting Flair & HHH's on-screen partnership.

Womens Champion Molly Holly vs. Trish Stratus - Again, another match that was quick & nothing really anything special besides Trish winning the belt back.

Chris Benoit vs. Kurt Angle - There two have never had anything below a five star match & this was no exception. While it's not on the same level their matches at WrestleMania 17 & Royal Rumble '03...it's still a damn near classic match.

There's a segment were Bischoff brings out two girls for the HLA with Stephanie McMahon (one of the girls you will recognize as one of the Miller Lite Cat Fight girls from WM19) but after they started teasing...Bischoff brought out a big huge woman who would later reveal herself as Rikishi & give Bischoff a huge stinkface.

WWE Champion Brock Lesnar vs. Undertaker - People forget about this match since Hell In A Cell happened a month later but this match was the first time that someone actually kicked Brock Lesnar's a**. One hell of a match despite the double DQ ending. Taker threw Lesnar through the set at the end to everyone cheering.

DVD extras include RVD & Benoit commercials, pre & post match interviews, a "WWE Desire" video on Undertaker, and Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero from Heat.

Highly recommend.

Movie Review: Good, but not the best
Summary: 4 Stars

This DVD is not as bad as some may say. I really enjoyed watching it. Here is each match rated and commented on.

Kane, Booker T, Goldust & Bubba Ray Dudley vs. The UnAmericans
This was a pretty good tag match. It's your basic match that was a pretty exciting opener for the event. (3/5)

Intercontinental Title - Chris Jericho (c) vs. Ric Flair
This was a pretty good match. I liked it because Jericho has been compared to a current version of "The Nature Boy." It was nice to see Jericho pull out some old tricks of Flair's and use them against him. (3.5/5)

Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero
This match was REALLY good. This was one of the best matches on the card. Both styles mixed well and they made a great match that was at times pretty high-flying. (4/5)

Billy & Chuck vs. Jamal & Rosey
This was an okay match. It was fun to see which team would win in order to find out what would happen later in the night. (2.5/5)

World Title Match - HHH (c) vs. RVD
I liked this match a lot! It wasn't the best, but the end came out of nowhere. Look for a special appearance by Ric Flair! The winner of the match was a little disappointing, but it started a good storyline and was a pretty decent match all around. (4/5)

Women's Title - Molly (c) vs. Trish
This was your standard women's title match. Trish is a good performer and she showed it in this match with Molly. This was a decent match, but it wasn't pay-per-view quality. (2.5/5)

Kurt Angle vs. Chris Benoit
This was an outstaning technical match! It doesn't top their "Royal Rumble 2003" match, but it was definately full of technicalities and exciting spots. This was a wonderful match that definately lived up to the hype! (5/5)

WWE Title - Brock (c) vs. Undertaker
Some people say that the end of this match was a let-down because it was a no contest/or double-DQ, but I think differently! This match was just what it was hyped as...a BRAWL! The match was an all-out brawl that was really exciting to watch. The end of the match was exactly how it should have ended. The ref couldn't control the two from brawling any longer...he had no choice. I thought it was great! (4.5/5)

Special Features:
5 bonus interviews
Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero (HeAT)
Undertaker "Desire" video
RVD & Benoit promos

Finally, it's definately worth watching at least once. I give the event 4 stars out of 5 because I particularly liked the matches and the "Desire" video by Undertaker was really good, but you've probably already seen it if you watch the weekly shows.

Movie Review: September 2002 - Staples Center - Los Angeles, CA
Summary: 4 Stars

Unforgiven 2002 was actually a very good, underrated PPV. It was the first PPV where both RAW and Smackdown had their own world champions.

1. Kane, Booker T, Goldust, Bubba Ray Dudley vs. Christian, Lance Storm, William Regal, & Test (8 Man Tag Match)
Great way to kick off the show. The match marked the return of Kane to WWE PPV's for the first time since Wrestlemania 18. Very entertaining high paced match. Great finish, with almost all of the competitors completing their finishing move. (8.5/10)

2. Chris Jericho vs. Ric Flair (Intercontinental Title)
Rematch of their Summerslam match. The match is a little slow and disappointing, but is needed for what happens later in the show. (6/10)

3. Eddie Guerrero vs. Edge
Another rematch of Summerslam. It was a lot better than their Summerslam match. Both men take some pretty heavy bumps in the match. They work well together. The two would go on to have an amazing No DQ, No Countout/Ladder match a few weeks later on Smackdown, but this match was great nonetheless. (8.5/10)

4. Rosey & Jamal vs. Billy & Chuck (Interpromotional Match)
If Rosey & Jamal won, Stephanie McMahon would have to kiss a girl. If Billy & Chuck won, Bischoff would have to kiss Steph's butt. This was Rosey & Jamal's first match on a WWE PPV. Very short, but good match. (8/10)

5. Triple H vs. Rob Van Dam (World Heavyweight Title)
The two competitors worked well together and put on a very good match. Contras of styles, but it went well. Ric Flair makes a surprise appearance. Good ending, but very shocking. (8.5/10)

6. Trish Stratus vs. Molly Holly (Women's Title)
Nothing special here. Who cares anyways. (2/10)

7. Chris Benoit vs. Kurt Angle
Another classic between these two. Match of the night. The crowd was really into it. Great reversals, submission holds, suplexes, and near falls. Everything that is expected when these two wrestle. The ending is a little disappointing. (9.5/10)

8. Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar (WWE Title)
A lot of people were a little disappointed with the match, but I thought it was pretty good. The two mixed well together. Check out the chair shot Lesnar takes from Undertaker. The ending is very disappointing, but is needed. Good post match action. (8/10)

I would recommend picking up this DVD. All of the matches are good except for Jericho/Flair and the women's match. The Angle/Benoit match is worth the price of the DVD alone.
