Movie Reviews of WWE SummerSlam 2002

Movie Review: August 2002 - Nassau Coliseum - Long Island, NY
Summary: 5 Stars

Summerslam 2002 was a great effort by all involved with the WWE. It was probably the best PPV of 2002.

1. Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio
Great way to kick off the show. This was Mysterio's first PPV match in the WWE. Unbelievable match. It is a mix of styles between these two, but if anyone can adapt to another's style, its Angle and Mysterio. There are a lot of near falls and reversals in this match. The crowd was really into the match. Watch Mysterio flip over the ref and nail Angle with on the outside floor. Second best opening match of a PPV of 2002. (9/10)

2. Chris Jericho vs. Ric Flair
This match was a bit of a letdown. These two developed quite the fued on RAW, but the match did not live up to its expectations. This should have been a no DQ or cage match. (7/10)

3. Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero
This match was not thrown together until the previous week on Smackdown. Okay match, but they needed a little more time to build up the fued. The two would go onto to have a great match at Unforgiven and Smackdown. (7.5/10)

4. Lance Storm & Christian vs. Goldust & Booker T (World Tag Titles)
Again, this was another great fued. The Un-Americans angle came off pretty good. Good effort by all four men. Test and William Regal both make appearances in the match. Good spot with Booker T double scissor kicking Christian and Strom. (8/10)

5. Chris Benoit vs. Rob Van Dam (Intercontinental Title/Interpromotional Match)
Technical classic between these two men. I was not sure if RVD could put on a good technical match, but he did. The two worked well together. The end is a bit of a surprise. (8.5/10)

6. Test vs. Undertaker
Very good match. The match was one of Test's better matches in a long time. There are a lot of near falls in the match. Storm and Christian make appearances. (8.5/10)

7. Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H (Non-Sanctioned)
This match was in essence a street fight. It was Michaels first match in the WWE in 4 years. He did not lose a step. A lot of credit has to be given to Triple H becuase he put on a great show as well. He was so evil in the match. There is a lot of blood and high spots in the match. Tables, ladders, and chairs are all used throughout the course of the match. One of the better matches in the last couple of years. In my opinion it was the number two match of the year, only behind Rock and Hogan from Wrestlemania 18. (10/10)

8. The Rock vs. Brock Lesnar (Undisputed Title)
At this point I was not a huge fan of Lesnar. I did not think he could put on a good match, especially having to follow the match ahead of him. But, I was wrong. Rock and Lesnar put on a heck of a match. There are great reversals and many near falls in the match. Good spot when The Rock, Rock Bottoms Heyman through the announce table. A lot of the crowd booed The Rock throughout the match. Great Summerslam main event. (9/10)

I recommend this DVD be added to your collection. All of the matches are worthwhile, except for Flair and Jericho. The match between Triple H and Michaels in one of the better ones you will see in a while.

Overall Rating: 9/10

Movie Review: The Best Pay Per View of 2002!
Summary: 5 Stars

The 2002 edition of Summerslam was, without a shadow of a doubt, the best pay per view of 2002. Every match was awesome and delivered in a huge way, in my opinion, this may very well be the best Summerslam ever, here's my breakdown of the PPV and I rate at a bust of five stars.(1-5)

Kurt Angle vs Rey Mysterio
*****
-Maybe the best opener ever. Rey and Kurt gave it everything they had. There was techncial wrestling, luche libre wrestling and submission wrestling all wrapped into one. This match just goes to show that even though Angle and Rey have completely opposite styles, they both can deliver one hell of a match.

Chris Jericho vs Ric Flair
****
-A great match wrestled by these two, a very well wrestled submission match. Jericho and Flair both used their trademark submission holds and at the end, "The Nature Boy" takes the victory by making Jericho tap out to the Figure 4 Leg Lock.

Edge vs Eddie Guerrero
****
-Another great mid-card match. Both of these wrestlers have similar styles as they both use technical and high flying offense. This match was a terrific bout and certainly once again proves that both individuals deserve to be main-event wrestlers.

WWE Tag Team Championship:
Lance Storm & Christian(c) vs Booker T and Goldust
****1/2
-This must have been the greatest tag team match this year! Booker T and Goldust work so well as a team and have good chemistry. The Un-Americans worked well together as well. This match literally had the fans on their feet as both teams put on an amazing match.

Test vs Undertaker
****
-A great brawling match, both Undertaker and Test were so intense in this match. The Undertaker came out on top with the Tombstone Piledriver to get the win.

WWE Intercontinental Championship:
Chris Benoit(c) vs Rob Van Dam
****1/2
-These great matches are what the WWE is all about. These two had a great match and clashed their styles together to make an amazing Intercontinental Title match. With RVD's unike high flying style and Benoit's technical style, this match is probably the best Interconinetal Title match in quite some time.

Non-Sanctioned Match:
Shawn Michaels vs Triple H
*****
-A tremendous showdown between these two! There were tables, chairs, and ladders! Both men brutalized eachother and Shawn Michaels proved that he is still "The Heartbreak Kid". HBK dove off ladders and beat Triple H to a bloody pulp and picked up the victory. This match makes Hulk Hogan vs The Rock from Wrestlemania look like Albert vs Hugh Morrus.

WWE Undisputed Championship:
The Rock(c) vs Brock Lesnar
****
-An okay match but this match pales in comparision to the prior match. Brock destroyed The Rock with suplexes and mauled him the entire match it seemed. When the bell was rung, there was a new WWE Undisputed Champion and the dawning of a new era because Brock Lesnar came out on top after he delivered the F-5 to The Rock.

-All in all, Summerslam delivered in every way and I strongly encourage people to buy this DVD-

Movie Review: Summerslam! Rock vs. Brock for the Big One
Summary: 5 Stars

Summerslam 2002 was a PPV with a good feeling to it. The Summer's brawl, Rock vs. Brock

Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio
Awesome opener. Rey Mysterio shows the WWE his tricks in his PPV debut. Rey wasnt over with the crowd as much as Angle was. A fast paced match. Angle's submissions didnt hurt the match either. Definately a great match.

Chris Jericho vs. Ric Flair
Good match but there battle at Unforgiven 02 would be better. Flair even shows some great mat skills here. But Jericho should have one this one as he basically carried Flair in this match. Still, a watchable match

Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero
Awesome smackdown match. The crowd was into this match. Even Eddie's slow mat wrestling didnt hurt this. Great Match with both men getting credit from me. R.I.P. Eddie. Anyways, Awesome match with a suprise ending

Christian and Lance Storm vs. Booker T and Goldust for the World Tag Team Titles
Average match, nothing special. The match delivered well but could have been slightly longer. But Booker and Goldust put on a great match here. Also note a great Heel Promo with Christian, Storm, and Test before the match.

RVD vs. Chris Benoit for the IC Title
The storyline was Raw vs. Smackdown here which made the match better and more suspenseful. Good match with two talented performers like RVD and Chris Benoit. This was back and forth until these two were worn out. The timing was right for this match though with some good spots including the very end.

The Undertaker vs. Test
Filler match that could have been better. What was sad was this was one of Taker's shortest PPV matches. Taker made very short work of Test though. Interferences made this match better.

HHH vs. HBK in an Unsactioned Match
Match of the night. Every possible way you could put a guy out was shown in this match. HHH did a okay job but it was funny to see Triple H get taken to school in a very hardcore match. This match had more than 5 spots in this match. Shawn basically disposed of Triple H. A ladder, Table, Chair, and a Shoe are used as weapons in this match. Awesome performance but the aftermath of the match is Over the Line.

The Rock vs. Brock Lesnar for the WWE Title
Awesome match that had a bunch of hype. This was a good match. It wasnt boring at all. Fans of a hyped and aged match your in luck with this match. What made it even more interesting was the Title being the factor. Awesome match that was back and forth but some spots were botched. The only good and nice spot was Paul Heyman being put through the announce table with a Rock Bottom. Nice Ending for a Superstar who deserved it.

Summerslam 2002 was great and one of my favorite PPVS. You should buy this PPV on DVD. The VHS one makes it look like a 1995 video.

Movie Review: The Brock Era Begins!
Summary: 5 Stars

Match 1 - Rey Mysterio v Kurt Angle
Great Opener. Mysterio scored with lots of crazy moves on Angle, but in the end it was the American Hero countering a Hurricane-rana into the Ankle Lock. This made Rey Mysterio have no choice but to tap out. ****

Match 2 - Chris Jericho v Ric Flair
Y2J applied the Walls Of Jericho on the Nature Boy, and Flair tapped, but his hand was in the ropes at the same time, so it did not count. A few moments later, Flair locked in the Figure-Four on the 'King Of The World', which made Jericho tap out. **1/2

Match 3 - Eddie Guerrero v Edge
After doing lots of damage to Edge's shoulder, Guerrero felt what it is like to get an Edge-o-cution, but Latino Heat kicked out. After taking the advantage again, Eddie was Speared and pinned by Edge. ***1/2

Match 4 - Un-Amercians v Booker T & Goldust (Tag Team Titles)After Test interfered and gave Booker T a Big Boot to the face when the referee was not looking, Christian pinned the 5-Time WCW Champion, giving him and Lance Storm the pinfall victory. **3/4

Match 5 - Rob Van Dam v Chris Benoit (Intercontinental Title)After an intense battle, RVD hit a Five-Star Frog Splash on the Rabid Wolverine for the win. This enabled the Intercontinental Championship to now be on RAW, not SmackDown!. ***3/4 Good, fast-paced action from two great superstars.

Match 6 - Undertaker v Test
Both Christian and Lance Storm interfered in the match, but were quickly Chokeslammed to hell by Taker. Test hit a Big Boot on Taker for a two-count. Soon after the Deadman loaded Test up for the Tombstone Piledriver for the victory. * The only bad match on the PPV.

Match 7 - Triple H v Shawn Michaels (Non-Sanctioned Match)
Many weapons such as chairs, steps, leather belts, trash cans, tables and ladders were all used during this amazing match. HBK launched himself off the top rope and drove HHH through a table, and then landed an elbow drop off the top of a ladder. Michaels went for the Sweet Chin Music, but the moves was blocked into a Pedigree, which was reversed into a roll-up pin for the victory! After the match the Game grabbed a sledgehammer and nailed Shawn twice in the back with it. ***** This could easily be the Match of the Year for 2002.

Match 8 - Brock Lesnar v The Rock (WWE Undisputed Title)
Rock hit a Rock Bottom on Lesnar for a two-count, and then recieved a Rock Bottom from Lesnar for a two-count! The People's Champ executed a spine-buster and went for the People's Elbow, but Brock recovered and hit an F-5 on the Rock for the victory. **** Very good match to end the show.

Overall, a FANTASTIC PPV, and well-worth the money.

Movie Review: The Next Big Thing Has Arrived!
Summary: 5 Stars

WWE Summerslam 2002 was one of the better Summerslams that I've seen. There were 8 solid matches that got almost every WWE fan ordering this pay per view. Below is a list of the matches and how I would rate them on a scale of 5 stars.

Rey Mysterio vs Kurt Angle
Good choice for an opener. This goes to show that Kurt Angle can work with anybody, no matter how big, or in this case, small they are. One of Rey Mysterio's best matches. However, I can't say the same about Kurt Angle. ***1/2

Ric Flair vs Chris Jericho
Good match. Jericho/Flair actually have some good chemistry together. ***1/2

Eddie Guerrero vs Edge
A spectacular match, which is probably why WWE decided to have a rematch between these two at the next ppv. Their match at Unforgiven is a bit better, but this was still awesome. Every second is thrilling. ****1/4

Tag Team Championship
Lance Storm and Christian vs Booker-T and Goldust
A pretty good tag match that got really hot during the last 5 minutes. ***1/4

Intercontinental championship
Chris Benoit vs Rob Van Dam
An amazing inter-roster match. I knew this one was gonna be good and good it was! This one was definately the best match of the night. An easy *****

Test vs Undertaker
Pretty underwhelming, but I knew beforehand that it was going to be bad. Not all bad though, because it's relatively short. Basic Undertaker match. **1/2

Non-Sanctioned match
Triple-H vs Shawn Michaels
Unbelievable! When I heard HBK was going to wrestle one more time, I thought the match was going to be short and that he was not going to take any serious bumps. Man, was I wrong! This match is great, with everything from tables to sledghammers. One of HHH's best matches. ****3/4, I can't go the full five because of HHH's speed during the match and it did move pretty slow because of it, but it was still incredible.

WWE Championship
The Rock vs Brock Lesnar
This is the match that had been hyped for many weeks prior the pay per view and it was pretty damn good. Obviously, this match is here to put the title on Lesnar. Any smart WWE fan would know that. The Rock does a good job of selling Brock's moves and Brock does a good job of applying them. Really good match. ****

Summerslam 2002 is a solid show, but if you are looking for the best pay per view of 2002, I would suggest checking out the Survivor Series. However, this show still stands out as one of the better Summerslams, and maybe even the best.
