Movie Reviews of WWE SummerSlam 2002Movie Review: The Best PPV of 2002 / SummerSlam Summary: 5 Stars
This is by far the best PPV of 2002. Eventhough 2002 gave us the first ever elimination chamber at Survivor Series. SummerSlam takes the cake. There is not a singe match on this DVD that is not worth watching. Great DVD for all wrestling fans to have in their collection.

Rey Mysterio vs. Kurt Angle
What a great opener!! These two can really go. Fast paced action. Counter after counter. This match could have went both ways very easily. Kurt Angle is one of the greatest pure wrestlers of all time. Rey Mysterio was so great at this time. This match was magic and worth every min.
4.5 Stars
Ric Flair vs. Chris Jericho
Another great match. A great follow up after the Kurt Angle and Rey Mysterio match. Ric Flair can still go people... Chris Jericho is one of the best in the squared circle. These two went back and forth also.. This was another match where you had no idea who was going to win..
4.5 stars
Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero (R.I.P.)
Who doesn't love Eddie. Once again another great match that followed two great openers. Edge and Eddie work together like magic and stick like glue. This match was so eye opening and very very fast paced. Edge and Eddie had so many pinfalls in this match to wear you didnt know who was going to win. So far 3 out of 3 in the first 3 matches on this PPV.
4.5 Stars
WWE Tag Team Championship / Lance Storm & Christian (The Un-Americans) vs. Booker T & Goldust
Now this is the only match on the card that didnt live up to the other matches on the card. I guess cause it was a tag match. Tag matches are normally good when all the wrestlers involved have great chemistry. I can say that the Un-Americans in Christian and Storm really sold their role in this match. Booker T & Goldust did everything they could do to keep this match exciting. I can say that this is the worst match on the card. Plus Test came out and interfered in the match.. Waste of time.
3 Stars
Intercontinental Championship / Chris Beniot vs. RVD
This was one of RVD's greatest matches in WWE in my opinion and with a work acholic wrestler in Beniot made this match awesome. Once again.. Pinfall after pinfall made this match very unpredictable. (Get the pattern) Hold after hold really made this a great match.
4 Stars
Note: At this time in wrestling there was only this Intercontinental Championship between both brands Smackdown and RAW. Which means that if you were a smackdown wrestler a RAW wrestler would have to wait for a PPV to challenge you for a title shot. In this match Chris Beniot represented Smackdown and RVD represented RAW.
Undertaker vs. Test
Now we all know that Test is not PPV material. Just cause the Undertaker is involed it is a must see. Anything the Undertaker does is worth watching. This was one of the only perdictable endings on the card. The was great b/c of Undertaker. Test at this time was apart of the Un-Americans. So when taker won this match he went in the crowd and pulled a USA flag from a fan and brought it to the ring spreading it high in the sky. Showing USA pride. Great ending.
4 Stars
Non-Sanctioned Match / Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels
**THE VERY BEST MATCH ON THE CARD AND OF THIER FUED** These two put on a classic match. Shawn Michaels came out of retirement to face Triple H who at this time was at the top of his game. Shawn had not wrestled a single match in 4 YEARS. We all know the *Showstoppa* and he brought his A game this night. This match was great. Triple H went after the injured back the entire match. At one point when we thought that HBK had no more to offer he kept on coming and kept on getting back up... Move after devestaing move HBK's heart kept pumping. These two tore the area down. HBK won this great match. The ending is very hard to witness. If you are a HBK fan I would turn away. But if you love the Game then this is for you. Triple H delievered the most horrirific sledge hammer shot to Shawn Michaels right in his injured spine. Great match for the ages.
5 Stars
WWE Undisputed Championship / The Rock vs Brock Lesner
Here comes the pain!!! The Rock is not a great wrestler, put in the ring with a great wrestler The Rock shines. The Rock really knows how to sell the beating. He will be labeled as one of the best besides Ric Flair and Shawn Michaels. This match was really interesting. Brock Lesner on a hot streak after Killing Hulkamania on Smackdown he was ready for the Rock. This match went back and forth and surprisingly enough.. Brock Lesner wins this match and becoming at that time the youngest WWE Champion in wrestling history. (Randy Orton is the wrestler that broke Brock's record)
5 Stars
I loved this PPV. I enjoyed this because all these matches had the suspense, the wrestling, and the best match ups. There was not a single flaw on this DVD nor PPV. The bonus footage on this DVD was ok also not to mention.

Match One-Rey Mysterio Vs Kurt Angle-Rey had only recently debuted in the WWE and he had made quite an impact and Kurt got jealous. This match was a good technical and high flying match with Rey and Kurt doing what they do best. There wasn't any outside obstructions or anything used to wreck the match it was just a straight up one on one great match. My rating 8.87/10.
Match Two-Y2J Vs Ric Flair-This was the trademark style match of Ric Flair which we've come to love to watch. There was a little bit of dirty play but its what it was meant to do. I believe these two should definetly have a rematch as they did very well in the ring together. Hopefully Flair gets one last title reign with any title and Y2J gets a title shot as they both deserve it. My rating 8.68/10.
Match Three-Eddie Guerrero Vs Edge-These two are great contenders to be World Champs in the future as they are great wrestlers, have a great work ethic and always do the best they can. The match itself between these two who were feuding was good quality and a good length. There was a couple of finisher attempts and kickouts from finishers and it made each man look very strong and willing to win at any cost without cheating. Give these two a great big push in their feud. My rating 8.70.
Match Four-World Tag Team Championships-Lance Storm and Christian(C)Vs Booker T and Goldust-This was a nice match as it had two very good teams going at it. There was lots of action and a few little comebacks after being dominated. There was interference at the end but it didn't make it worse as it is what it was about for one of the teams. My rating 7.73/10.
Match Five-Interpromotional Match-Intercontinental Title-Chris Benoit(C)-This was an awesome match and these two always put on a great show. There was high flying action from both men and technical brilliance like always from Chris Benoit. The match was a slightly longer length then any of the previous matches but it was well worth it as it was a great match. I believe these two are another couple of wrestlers who should really be pushed towards the Undisputed Title. My rating 8.90/10.
Match Six-Test Vs Undertaker-Before this match Undertaker was a heel but he turned face after the Un-Americans which include Test were attacking people. People have said this match was boring but I liked it. It was Taker fighting like always for America as he is the "American Badass" and Test fighting for the Un-Americans. It had interference but it was worthwhile and it didn't affect the result anyway. My rating 7.89/10.
Match Seven-Street Fight-Shawn"HBK"Michaels Vs HHH-This is the battle of the former DXers. These two are two of the best wrestlers around not just the current time frame but ever. This was Shawns first match back since his back injury which forced him to retire after Wrestlemania XIV back in 1998. These two put on a show and it was a bloody brutal brawl which most people expected. Hopefully this continues for a bit until they finish their feud seeing who the best wrestler is once and for all out of them. My rating 9.52/10.
Match Eight-Main Event-Undisputed Title-The Rock(C)Vs Brock Lesnar-Lesnar had only been in the WWE for five months and he had already made a huge impact and won the King Of The Ring which gave him this title shot. This match had the hard task of being after the HBK and HHH match as it had a fairly inexperienced wrestler in it called Brock Lesnar. The match was a fairly big brawl with the two wearing each other down with submission moves. The end was good with lots of finisher attempts and counters. Hopefully these two get a rematch but not at the main event spot unless Lesnars skills increase. My rating 7.80/10.
This show was a good show and it should show in the results as it got 68.09 out of 80 which is a great result and the percentage for that is 85.11% which is a great mark for it. The grade given from the percentage is an A- which means this is a great DVD and a must have for any wrestling fan. It had many different types of matches and styles with no real bad matches. I believe its a must have for any wrestling fan present or past.
Movie Review: Best PPV of the 5 Stars
Summerslam 2002 was a great PPV. It had a very solid card and some great matches. Summerslam 2002 was held in August of 2002 at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. I will rank and review the matches for you. They are based out of ten points.1. KURT ANGLE (VS) REY MYSTERIO This was a great opening match. This fued stemmed from Rey Mysterio embarassing Kurt Angle on Smackdown for the weeks leading up to Summerslam. This match was Rey Mysterio's first WWE PPV match. The match was very fast paced and filled with many great moves. At one point Rey Mysterio does a sommersault flip over the referee onto Angle on the outside floor. Angle kicks out of the West Coast Pop. Angle wins after Mysterio taps to the Ankle Lock, which Angle had reversed on Mysterio off the top rope. Great match. The crowd was really into this match. (8.5/10) 2. RIC FLAIR (VS) CHRIS JERICHO These two competitors had a heated fued leading up to this match. The match was disappointing to say the least. This was a very slow match. Flair wins after Jericho taps to the Figure Four Leglock. (6/10) 3. EDGE (VS) EDDIE GUERRERO This match could have been a lot better if it wasn't forced into. The match wasn't made until the previous Smackdown on Thursday. Not much hype went into it. Edge wins it with Edgecution. This match was disappointing, but they made up for it at Unforgiven and in the No DQ/Ladder match from Smackdown. (6/10) 4. CHRISTIAN & LANCE STORM (VS) BOOKER T & GOLDUST (TAG TITLE) The crowd hated Christian and Lance Storm with a passion. It was a very entertaining match with a lot of action and many close falls. At one point Booker T scissor kicks both Storm and Christian at the same time. Storm and Christian retain the titles with outside interference from Test. Good match. (8/10) 5. ROB VAN DAM (VS) CHRIS BENOIT (INTERCONTINENTAL) This was the lone interpromotional match of the PPV. Many people were disappointed with this match, but I was very impressed. The match showed a much different side to RVD's wrestling ability. The match ended up being a very technical match. Benoit looks like he has the match in had when he goes to give a Superplex off the top rope, but RVD reverses it into a Body Press. RVD becomes new champ after delivering the Five Star Frog Splash. Good match. (8/10) 6. UNDERTAKER (VS) TEST This match was one of Test's better performances. Good match with a lot of action. Test even kicks out of the Chokeslam. Christian and Lance Storm interfere, but the Undertaker fights them off. The Undertaker administers the Tombstone to Test. He covers him to get the 1-2-3. (8/10) 7. SHAWN MICHAELS (VS) TRIPLE H (NON-SANCTIONED) Great match. This was HBK's long awaited return from a four and a half year absence. He showed he still had it. Very emotionally charged match. The crowd was in it from the get go. There are so many high spots in this match. Triple H Side Suplexes Michaels' through a chair. Triple H bleeds like crazy in this match. The best spot of the match is when HBK places Triple H on a table on the arena floor and climbs up to the top rope and Body Splashes onto the table through Triple H. Amazing. Michaels even brings out a ladder in the match and delivers the Flying Elbow off the ladder to Triple H. The ending is fantastic. HBK goes to give Triple H Sweet Chin Music, but Triple H blocks it and reverses it into the Pedigree. But, Michaels blocks reverses that into a version of the Sunset Flip to get the 1-2-3. Triple H hits Michaels in the back with a sledgehammer after the match. Triple H has such an evil smile on his face after this hideous act. What a Second best match of the year, losing out to Rock and Hogan at Wrestlemania. Still, one of the best emotionally charged matches you will ever see. (10/10) 8. BOCK LESNAR (VS) THE ROCK (UNDISPUTED CHAMPIONSHIP) These two competitors had a very tough act to follow. The match ended up being a lot better than I thought. The last five or so minutes of the match are very entertaining. It starts out with the Rock delivering a Rock Bottom through the announce table. The two competitors get into the ring and both deliver there finishers, but they are either kicked out off or blocked or reversed. Finally, Lesnar gives The Rock and F-5 to become new champ. Good match. Much better than I thouhght it would be. (8.5/10) EXTRAS The extras are decent. There are some interviews, The Rock and Brock's training video and a match between Lesnar and Hogan from Smackdown. This is the match were Lesnar injures Hogan. It is an ok match. (7.5/10) Overall, this was a great PPV. I think it was the best PPV of the year. The crowd was in it from start to finish. The best matches were Angle and Mysterio, HBK and Triple H, and Lesnar and The Rock. I strongly recommend this DVD for purchase. It will be a great addition to your collection.
Movie Review: Summerslam Reaches Greatness Summary: 5 Stars
The best possible way to describe this PPV is with one simple word, phenominal. This edition of Summerslam presented us with great action, the crowning of the "Next Big Thing", the return of HBK, and very few flaws. This one is simply 3 hours of solid action.
Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio
I've yet to see a greater opener than this one in recent memory. Angle's technical style mixed so well with Mysterio's underdog, highflying ring work. The action is compelling and crisp from start to finish, with nice chain wrestling menouvers and exceptional counters and reversals. This match is only a taste of what was to come. Fact is, this is how a opening PPV presentation should be, because Angle and Mysterio pulled off a fantastic match. 5/5
Chris Jericho vs. Ric Flair
While this match would top their later Unforgiven 2002 bout, this was no where near close to even touching the level of a match Kurt Angle and Rey Mysterio put on. This match displayed some dirty tactics, as Jericho took a page out of "The Dirtiest Player in the Game's" book. While this was slow at times, it had those entertaining spots such as each man attempting to pull of the other's submission. This was a decent outing by Jericho and Flair, but it wasn't close to being the best of the night. 3.5/5
Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero
This was a really good way to start off the trilogy of matches these two had. In my personal opinion, i believe this stood to top their later Unforgiven 2002 matchup, but their last battle under No Disqualifications took the cake, but this one is still solid by all means. The story was Guerrero targeting the injured arm of Edge, which led to a nice frog splash targeting that same injury. This was a pretty good one from these two, as it took 2nd place for me in the trilogy. 4/5
WWE World Tag Team Championship
Un-Americans (c) vs. Booker T and Goldust
This was before the Tag Team division really picked up on a hot streak, so cut it some slack. I enjoyed each team, as they were creative in their own way, but this is the only match i didn't enjoy on the card. When it comes down to it, the bad outweighed the good. 2.75/5
Intercontinental Championship
Chris Benoit (c) vs. Rob Van Dam
You've all heard it before, this one is indeed a "lost classic". The technical wrestling display is very well done. I know some of you proboly don't like to watch Benoit and maybe haven't seen much because of the 2007 tragedy, but if there is any Benoit match to check out, this would be one of them. RVD and Benoit put on a phenominal Smackdown vs. Raw contest as this is one of the best of the night. 5/5
Undertaker vs. Test
Of course, this isn't a great match, but it is good for a big man presentation. Undertaker is one of the all time greats and he made test look solid, in a decent kind of way. There is some interference from Un-americans, but in the end, taker takes the win. Decent at best, but it is watchable. 3.5/5
Unsanctioned Street Fight
Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H
Along with the main event, this was my favorite match on the card and probobly my favorite contest between these two rivals and friends. This match told such a story as it was Shawn Michael's 1st in-ring outing in over a 4 year span and ring rust was not a factor. These two went all out, giving us a compelling, brutal and physical battle. This one is perfectly described as a fight, as their were "toys" brought in such as the trusty ladder which went along with a very nice table spot, and of course, more included. The blood on each man after this proves the level of physicallity in this one. To sum it all up, "HBK" and "The Game" put on 30 minutes of excellence. 5/5
WWE Undisputed Championship
The Rock (c) vs. Brock Lesnar
Michael Cole said it right in one of his better comentary moments, as he stated "this is the most anticipated Summerslam main event in history". As other reviewers have stated, it is a shame we never saw a Rock/Brock II rematch, but this one match will not leave you empty handed. This match had such huge hype as it catapolted Lesnar into greatness. He did not dissapoint as he mixed it up well with "The People's Champ", to where it got to the point of the crowd cheering him on as well. As we all know, the ending crowned "The Next Big Thing" as champion as he started his title run on a strong note in this fantastic main event. 5/5
This is a dvd i recommend to every fan, because i strongly believe you have to see this if your a huge WWE mark as i am. The matches are great from start to finish, with a couple of exceptions. But, minus that, you have a spotless 5 star event.
Movie Review: The Biggest & Best Party of 2002 Summary: 5 Stars
SummerSlam 2002 was one of those events that didn't have a bad match on the card & most of the matches here turned out to be high quality encounters that would be overshadowed by the two main events where a legend returned to the ring & a youngster reached the pinnacle of his short career.
Kurt Angle vs Rey Mysterio. This feud was based off the fact that Mysterio pinned Angle in a six man tag & Angle wanted revenge for it. Awesome match to kick off the show as Angle was really aggressive with his techincal wrestling while Rey showcased what he does best & that was fly around with his mix of lucha libre style wrestling. The crowd was really hot for this one from start to finish since this opener delivered more than anticipated.
Ric Flair vs Chris Jericho. This match didn't exactly top the opening contest but it was a great match between these two with the story of both men trying to get the other in their submission holds & even at times, trying to perform his opponents submission hold while not withstanding the series of chopping battles that occurred here & there in this one.
Edge vs Eddie Guerrero. An excellent encounter between two of WWE's brightest stars at the time with the storytelling that surrounded this match was that Edge hurt his shoulder early in the bout that lead to Eddie working on it with various submission holds including a sick armbar that if you saw the look on Edge's face along with the angle that it was in, you would think he was going to dislocate the arm.
WWE Tag Team Champions Christian & Lance Storm vs Booker T & Goldust. WWE tried to make this Anti-American angle work but it was just not the same as it was in 1997. Anyways, this was a great tag team match as all four men worked well together along with Booker & Goldust really meshing well as a team despite the unique styles of both men. The ending did feature Test interfering to screw Booker & Goldust but it didn't take away from another great match on the card.
Intercontinental Champion Chris Benoit vs Rob Van Dam. The only interpromotional match on the card as it was just a high quality encounter to the point that I am surprised that this match doesn't get the credit that it deserves. Benoit was just like how Angle was earlier in the show in which he was relentless with his techincal wrestling & submission holds while RVD not only used his unorthdox style but he also did some mat wrestling of his own. I would call this a lost classic & one of the best Intercontinental Championship matches of all time.
The Undertaker vs Test. This was during the best run of Test's WWE career as he held his own against Taker in what was another good "big man vs big man" match with brawling from both men along with Christian & Lance Storm having cameos along with taking some sick looking chokeslams from Undertaker.
Non-Sanctioned Match: Shawn Michaels vs Triple H. This was the big return for Shawn Michaels as this was his first match since WrestleMania XIV & by looking at the performance that he gave, you would think he didn't miss a day in the ring. These two just beat the hell out of each other to the point where both men bleed (with Triple H's just being a bloody mess) & used various weapons like a belt, steel steps, a ladder, chairs, a table & even the Spanish commentator's boot at one point. This match lived up to all the hype that was surrounded around this one & it's funny to think that this was supposed to be a one time deal for HBK but he ended up wrestling full-time after this.
WWE Undisputed Champion The Rock vs Brock Lesnar. This was the match that was regarded as the most anticipated bout in SummerSlam history & just like the prevous match, this one lived up to the hype as well. Rock wasted no time as he ran to the ring to get at Lesnar that eventually lead into a great match between both men but the real highlight to this contest was that the crowd was split at the start of the match but mid-way through the match, they turned on The Rock & began cheering for Lesnar despite him being the heel in this match. However, in the end Brock Lesnar made history by becoming the youngest WWE Champion in history.
DVD extras include the Brock Lesnar vs Hollywood Hulk Hogan match from SmackDown, post-match interviews, an interview on Byte This with Shawn Michaels, promos, making of the SummerSlam commercial along with the commercial itself & the training regiments of The Rock & Brock Lesnar.
Overall, this is one of those events that is worth going out of your way to see as this event has gone down as the last classic SummerSlam event of them all.
