Movie Reviews of WWE Royal Rumble 2006Movie Review: Mysterio goes the distance! Summary: 5 Stars
The 2006 Royal Rumble PPV was interesting. It started off strong, then staggered a little bit, then picked up, and then staggered even more. Here is the results.
Open Invitational for the Cruiserweight Championship
Kid Kash vs Jamie Noble vs Funaki vs Gregory Helms vs Paul London vs Nunzio
Very good way to start off the PPV. The action spilled outside of the ring on several occasions. AMAZING shooting star press of the top rope by London. The end comes when Helms (from RAW by the way), lands an enziguri on Funaki to win the title. 8/10
Triple H and Randy Orton receive their Royal Rumble entrant numbers. Brings back old memories of their Evolution days.
Ashley vs Mickie James
Guest Referee-Trish Stratus
Decent women's match. Ashley isn't the greatest wrestler, but she tries, while Mickie is quite decent in the ring herself. Ashley gets a little heat from the crowd by continually landing hard right hands on Mickie. Mickie gets the win after a powerbomb off the top rope. 6/10
Big Show and Rey Mysterio receive their Royal Rumble entrant numbers. Rey isn't pleased with his number, and smiles looking up toward the heavens as if Eddie Guerrero helped him pick his number.
JBL w/Jillian Hall vs The Boogeyman
Was this even a match? This was simply a way to get the Boogeyman over, and JBL was chosen to be the victim. The match ends when Boogeyman lands the Pump-Handle Slam on JBL. 2/10
Shelton Benjamin and MNM receive their Royal Rumble entrant numbers. All three men promise Vince that they will eliminate Shawn Michaels from the Rumble.
The Royal Rumble Match
The match starts off with #1 entrant Triple H and #2 entrant Rey Mysterio. After the two of them go at each other, Simon Dean enters and is eliminated immediately. Other cool moments include, Big Show and Kane attempting to chokeslam each other, and then both being eliminated by Triple H, the return of Rob Van Dam, HBK being screwed by Vince and Shane McHmahon, and the returns of Goldust and Tatanka! The final four comes down to Triple H, Randy Orton, Rob Van Dam, and Rey Mysterio. RVD is eliminated by Rey when he mistakenly runs into RVD. Triple H is next to go via head scissors from Rey. Orton and Rey are then left alone as the final two. Orton attempts to elimiante Rey, and Rey reverses it into a hurricanra to send Orton over the top rope, and win the Royal Rumble! On a side note, I believe that Rey Mysterio is more than over with the WWE fans and could definitely headline Wrestlemania. As for him only getting over because of dedicating his matches to Eddie Guerrero, that is a load of crap. Dedicating his matches to Eddie shows respect and honor and how much Eddie meant to Rey. It's sad to see some people fail to realize that. 10/10
Edge is shown backstage taunting Rey Mysterio after his Rumble victory.
WWE Championship
John Cena vs Edge
Cena comes out to an AMAZING entrance, which looks like a spaceship coming down from the rafters, and is truly a sight to see. As for the match, it was pretty good. Edge controlled most of the match, but in the end Cena hits the F-U, and makes Edge taps out to the STFU to reclaim the WWE Championship. 7.5/10
World Heavyweight Championship
Kurt Angle vs Mark Henry
Decent match. That is all that can be said. Henry used his big man moves to control a good portion of the match. Angle wins via roll up after a sick chairshot to Henry. 7/10
After the match, The Undertaker makes his return on a chariot, escorted by his druids, motioning to Angle that he is coming for the championship. Lightning bolts crashed down onto the ring, causing it to collapse, while Taker stared down a stunned Angle.
Overall, the Rumble was a good ppv. I reccomend it when it comes out.
