Movie Reviews of WWE Rebellion 2002

Movie Review: Awesome PPV
Summary: 5 Stars

Rebellion was one of the best PPV of the year. Edge vs. Brock Lesnar match was outstanding. and Benoit and Angle vs. Los Gurreros was better than any tag team match on smackdown or on PPV in the U.S. The extras are outstanding as well. Buy this DVD or VHS now don't wait any longer. oh yah I almost forgot the Rebellion entrance way was awesome as well. Buy this.

Movie Review: WWE Rebellion '02
Summary: 5 Stars

It was great to see Eddie in action again. His and Chavo's commentary before the match (remember the alamo?!) was extremly funny. To bad they lost there.
I was surprised to see that Cole had all his hair. Loved how all the smackdown annoucers (except Funaki smackdown's#1 annocer) bust-a-move

Movie Review: The Best "Unknown" Event in WWE History
Summary: 4 Stars

Sorry for not doing a review in a while, i've been kind a busy, but here is one now. I recently got this one in the mail, and almost every match is watchable and it was a very fun event with a great dvd extra, and not a lot of people know about this one. Thanks for reading!

Smackdown vs. Raw
Interpromotional Match
Matt Hardy (sd) vs. Booker T (raw)
The title itself makes the match appealing, and this one is quite the crowd pleaser as they were excited to see booker t, a highly favored raw star on a smackdown international ppv. As for the match, there is some great action from both men, and a little stalling comedy from the start of the match. I expected a little more from these two, because some of the things that happened in this match, you could see coming from a mile away. Really, besides that one flaw, this is a very fun opener at it was a nice way to start off the night.
3.5/5

Intergender Tag Team Match
John Cena & Dawn Marie vs. Billy Kidman & Torrie Wilson
This was cena in his early days, when he actually put fourth more of an effort and showed the crowd more moves here that he does today, which made this match decent. The involvment of dawn marie and torrie is nothing to get into, because as expected, its terrible, but cena wrestled a decent match, using a variety of different moves and we see good highflying from kidman, so the match wasn't to bad and actually, i came to like it.
3.25/5

Cruiserweight Exibition
Funaki vs. Crash
Its funny, i just noticed this, but almost every match on here has a stipulation, huh. Ok, sorry, on to the match now, just from the title, you proboly think this one is a short, bore of a match, but actually it is quite the opposite. The match is kind of short, but the action is great for the time. There is alot of comedic spots in this one, but you also get good takedowns and some nice highflying to go with it. Now, this is far from the best match on the card, but it isn't bad at all.
3.25/5

Three Way Elimination Match
Cruiserweight Championship
Jamie Noble vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Tajiri
This was one of my favoirte matches on the card, because this one is a fast paced thriller that showed the true potential of each cruiserweight star. Tajiri was still in his prime here, mysterio was up and coming, and noble was the reighning champion and was good at the time, so it was a very good combination. Tajiri is only in the match for around 5 minutes, but he defiently had a good showing, using examples of his "unusual" offense. Mysterio and noble kept the match going and defiently made it better and the the crowd was way into the ending. Point is, the match did its job.
4.5/5

The Big Valbowski & Chuck Palumbo vs. D-Von & Ron Simmons
This was the worst match on the card here, believe me. So far, the event had been quite a solid one, but this really brung a damper on the crowd and me, the viewer. It is a slow match and i really don't know why they made these random combinations of teams, but anyway, this was just utterly terrible. Fast forward this one, trust me.
2/5

Kiss My A** Match
Rikishi vs. Albert
This stipulation was a bit disturbing considering these guys were in it, but the match isn't all bad. They actually have a very quick pace in this match, and lots of entertaining spots. This was alot better than i expected, i so i would recommend a view.
3.5/5

WWE Tag Team Championships
Kurt Angle & Chris Benoit vs. Eddie & Chavo Guerrero
Talk about a forgotten classic. One thing i really liked about smackdown in late 2002 was they put fourth a lot of effort in their new tag team division and this is a pefect example of it. That very tag team division was known for these two teams along with edge and mysterio, but this one was the forgotten one, and it is just as good as those others. The match shows excellent technical wrestling from each men, so they all had their spots. The crowd was really into angle, which was fun to see. This is a great tag team match and match of the night.
5/5

2 on 1 Handicap Match
WWE Championship
Brock Lesnar & Paul Heyman vs. Edge
Don't let the title fool you, because heyman was barely involved in this match, only in some spots, which were very entertaining and comedic. I loved how the bookers emphasized that edge didn't have to pin lesnar to win the belt, he could also pin heyman, which even though the main titles almost never change hands at these events, they actually made you believe that it was possible, which was good for the match itself. Lesnar and edge had a very good showing, which displayed lesnar's dominate power and edge's will to win and quickness. The match was very aggressive and these two had great chemistry and it was a shame they didn't face off more. This one wasn't quite a lost classic, but it was a great main event to close the show.
4.5/5

As for the extras, you get torrie wilson in london and cena in manchester, a couple of promo-type interviews and a short rebellion recap, but what made the extras special was that it included hbk vs british bulldog from one night only '97 in england, which was where this event was. That was the only time a title changed hands initially at a international event and it was a very good match, which led to the formation of the early D-Generation X. So overall, a great extra added to a subpar event, so i defiently recommend this dvd.

Movie Review: Better then it could've been
Summary: 4 Stars

Rebellion is a PPV which isn't shown in the US, but still has an uneasy air of a Smack down show it stands out because it isn't linked with the current story lines. While this all Smack down, it proves that they can have decent matches if they tried. Now on to the matches. First, an inter promotional Match. Booker T vs. Matt Hardy. I quite like this much, as it is slow but more see saw battle. It would be hard to predict a winner, and most matches should be like this. If there were more inter promotional matchs, then maybe the Brand extensions wouldn't be that bad.

Next an Inter gender match Billy Kidman and Torrie Wilson vs. John Cena and Dawn Marie. This isn't a bad match but it could've been a lot better and the fact that it continued a horrible story line doesn't help. In other words skip it. Next, Crash vs. Funaki, two Smack Down superstars being brought out of the closet and the make the most of the spot light. Mostly just pin falls and reversals it is better the inter gender match. A Three way elimination Match for the Cruiser Weight title. Jamie Noble vs. Rey Mysterio Vs Tajiri. Good match, but Tajiri gets eliminated to quickly and so would have been better if he wasn't in the match. Still, a good match and better then some others on the card.

A promo by Beniot and Angle is better the Tag Team match Val Venis and Chuck Palumbo vs. D-von and Ron Simmons. Just a filler match and is short. Kiss my Ass match. Rikishi vs. Ablert, ah yes Albert, who faded away before coming back as A-train. Like Crash and Funaki, he doesn't get air time and so they bring him out for this match. While it isn't the best match it is a lot better then some of the matches. Tag Team champs
Angle and Beniot (champs) vs Chavo and Eddie Gurrero. Good match and the crowd behind Angle. A good match and with good participants, a lot better then what could've happened say D-von and Ron Simmons anyone.

Now the main event, which is a handicap match. With Taker injured who was to take his place. Well the lucky guy was Edge, who shows us two things in this much. 1 He can be a future main event player and 2, can go the distance. Brock Lesnar is great also and he and Edge make the most by putting on the best match of the night. Paul Heyman is also in this match and is funny and is well used.

DVD Extras. Quite a good offering here. Torrie Wilson in London is entertaining and John Cena is funny and shows that he has personality, something which he lacked at the time. Rebillion Recap is sad and should be skipped. The Bonus Match is a gem, with it being the European Championship match from one night only in 1997. British Bulldog vs. Shawn Michaels. A classic and a great addition. Over all the DVD can ether be brought or hired and still be enjoyed in both situations.
