Movie Review: Good Build Up To WrestleMania
Summary: 4 Stars
The Road to WrestleMania XIX continues through No Way Out as the WWE returned to Montreal, Canada for the first time since the infamous Survivor Series 1997 event. For the most part, this continued feuds into WrestleMania & you know that someone usually gets screwed in Canada.
Chris Jericho vs Jeff Hardy. This was Jeff's last WWE match for a few years but he put on a strong performance against Jericho who had the Canadian crowd on his side. The real moment to check out is the reaction that Shawn Michaels got when he made an appearance after the match.
World Tag Team Champions William Regal & Lance Storm vs Kane & Rob Van Dam. All four of these men have different styles but they meshed well to deliver another good match on the card with the finish revolving around the issue that Kane had with his mask.
Cruiserweight Champion Billy Kidman vs Matt Hardy. This has a funny storyline at the time with Hardy trying to lose weight to get to 220 pounds for this match. This was one of those cruiserweight matches that was not a spotfest or fast paced throughout but it was a solid contest with the highlight being Matt Hardy winning the title.
Undertaker vs Big Show. Undertaker is one of the few men that can bring out the best in the Big Show as these two had a great "big man vs big man" match with the story of Taker using other moves (including submission holds that you would see in the UFC) to combat with a man bigger than him & even doing a nice dive over the top rope onto A-Train & Paul Heyman at one point.
Brock Lesnar & Chris Benoit vs Team Angle. Edge was advertised for this six man tag but was taken out due to injury so it was now a handicap match. This was mostly to continue the Kurt/Brock storyline leading to WrestleMania but this was a great wrestling match as all five men did not miss a step. On a side note, this was the match that began to give Angle neck problems that lead to him missing out half of the year & and we never knew who attacked Edge backstage.
World Heavyweight Champion Triple H vs Scott Steiner. This was the weakest match of the night as the crowd turned on this match badly but at least it was not as long as their Rumble match. These two don't mesh well but this was just to establish Triple H's Evolution group as Ric Flair, Randy Orton & Batista had cameos here to help Triple H retain.
Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Eric Bischoff. Austin has said many times before about "opening up a can of whoop a$$" but this is a perfect example of that statement as Austin destroys Bischoff with J.R. on commentary screaming non-stop. This was fun to watch & the Rattlesnake is back.
The Rock vs Hulk Hogan. The Rock proved here that he is not a horrible wrestler because he carried this match & made it entertaining while Hogan did not do much except his same old routine but one moment that was hilarious to point out was Rock wearing Hulk's bandanna & hitting him with the belt. This was set to put over the storyline of Hogan/McMahon as Vince McMahon had a referee screw Hogan out of a victory in Canada (Sounds familiar huh?).
In the end, this was a pretty good event as it did what it was suppose to do and that was continue the road to WrestleMania XIX while delivering good matches here and there so I recommend.
