Movie Review: No Mercy 2003
Summary: 3 Stars

At the conclusion of this broadcast, I had mixed feelings about how I felt about it. There are a couple of really good matches, one very dramatic segment, and a couple of average matches. I guess I can't be too disappointed because there was nothing that was really bad or that brought the show down, but with that being said, there is also nothing that is really going to stand out in the future. We have seen in the past that Smackdown is capable of putting on a successful-single branded PPV. This one may have missed the target slightly, but it might be worth a few bucks some day.

Here is the card:

Cruiserweight Title:
Rey Meysterio vs. Tajiri
I don't understand why there is so much controversy about this match! To me, this opening contest is the perfect choice. From the start, we can see that the crowd here is well into the show, but they usually are during a cruiserweight match, especially when Meysterio is involved. This is very solid, and probably nothing you have never seen before, but with these two, I don't think that most audiences would seem to mind. Yes, the ending does bring down the match a little bit, but this turns out to actually be one of the best matches on the card.

Chris Beniot vs. A-Train:
A lot of people are usually quick to bash A-Train, but he does not do too bad here. Most of the time, I don't like matches where one single competitor is dominated throughout the course of the contest, especially when it is someone like Beniot, who we like to see in action, but this time around, A-Train's aggression and toughness makes us focus on that. The match is kind of long, and again, the crowd gets into the action (and there is a lot of it here). There was a spot in the match where Beniot lands on a chair.. what a scary moment! All in all, this match is very watchable, even for Train's standards, which is probably a breath of fresh air from what we might have expected here.

Zach Gowen vs. Matt Hardy:
I have already pointed out that I am not a fan of Gowen, not for obvious reasons, but rather because I don't think he belongs in the WWE ring (and this is for psychological reasons). But if I am going to be unbiased and fair here, the match was still not up to par. Now this is not because the men don't have any talent, but because the match itself does not have any character. The match Gowen had with Mr. McMahon at Vengeance 2003 was bad enough in terms of performance quality, but this one is just even more painful. On the surface, I am sure many will enjoy this match. I however, did not. I don't think that either of the participants could have carried the other through the match, and it showed. Sadly, I was aggravated with this.

The Basham Brothers vs. The APA
One major problem that I had with this match was the slew of matches that did not leave an impression with me. Yes, there is some obvious talent in this match, but I was just looking for something more. To make matters worse, the arrival of Shaniqua at the end of the match was the highlight of the match for me. At least she brought something that we all were not expecting. Other than that, all we have here is a typical tag match between these two teams. The Bashams' dull style does not mesh well with the brawler rituals of Bradshaw and Farooq (which is also kind of old at this point). All of this leads to about a ten minute match that you could see on any regular Smackdown broadcast.

I Quit Match:
Vince McMahon w/ Sable vs. Stephanie McMahon w/ Linda McMahon
Now THIS is where we get an exciting dose of sports entertainment. The absolutely incredible video package we get before the match preps us for this emotional ride of a contest. Sable and Linda McMahon add so much to the match as well. Sable is very good at making an audience hate her, which in this case, is a great thing. Linda McMahon is just a genuine character, and helped out Steph's cause in the match too. The match itself is not a technical display by any means, but I don't think anyone was honestly expecting it to be. Vince dominates most of the match here, with Steph getting in a few hits with a steel pipe, and a bulldog as well (much to the delight of the crowd). I was not too surprised with the outcome, but I enjoyed every second of the bout.

Kurt Angle vs. John Cena:
This was Cena's second attempt at a Smackdown PPV to give us an impression when he takes on a top name in the company. I was very much pleased when I saw the Angle did not have to carry Cena through the match. The background was the Cena was the heel who was mocking at Angle, and Angle just trying to shup up Cena. He comes out and takes up about 3 minutes to do his trademark rap, Angle makes his interest, and we get a solid match with plenty of technical and psychological appeal. It was kind of lengthy, but I didn't really mind because the match kept a good pace and an even better story. It was nice to see Angle take the win over Cena, which it would be difficult to see someone do that in present day WWE.

United States Title:
Big Show vs. Eddie Guerrero
Before writing this review, I had actually forgotten about this match. That really says something about it, huh? I will not say that it was a bad contest, but just as it entails, it was pretty forgettable. Now that I have started thinking about it, I do remember a segment of the previous broadcast of Smackdown having Eddie smother the Big Show with a hose full of sewage. The match is something of the sorts that we can all expect in match where there is a 250 pound weight difference between the two men involved. If you are in to this type of thing, or are a fan of either of the two men, then go ahead and watch it, but other than that I don't think that it is worth more than one look.

WWE Title Biker-Chain Match:
Brock Lesnar vs. Undertaker
I can respect the WWE's obvious attempt to put together something that is a little different. The main event for No Mercy 2003 is a good one. The match is a nice change of pace from the rest of the evening. There is a lot of brutality and hard hitting from both men, which is something that has come to be typical of them when they work together. We all know that both are capable of more, but never really show it when together. This is not a bad thing though either. The match also features a little bit of an element of suspense and a hardcore twist to it. If you had been watching Smackdown for the 3-4 weeks prior to this event, you won't be surprised when you see the FBI and Mr. McMahon come out to aid on Lesnar's behalf. In general, I liked the match, and thought it was a nice way to put the final touches on this PPV. It probably won't be remembered for anything, but was a good attempt for what it was.

No Mercy 2003 was something of an average event. It might have been a little above average from certain angles. The match card is pretty original, some playing out in the viewers favor, and some not. The father/daughter I Quit match and the main event was enough to sell the DVD for me, but the rest of the card was solid as well. I suggest this disc for about $15.

Movie Review: No mercy 203 is a 3 star ppv

70-66%-good

1. Tajiri vs. Rey Mysterio for the crusierwieght title- This was a very good opeenr. This is nothing that we have not seen before out of these guys but non of the less still good. Lots of high flying moves in this match and near falls. It was given enoiugh time at 12 minutes to work.Soild match. WInner and still wwe crusierwieght champ tajiri. Match Rating 7/10.

2. Chris Beniot vs. A-Train- This was your typical a-trian match. I think that it was abovious to me that beniot carried this match the whole way through. It was dominated by train for part of ti but when beniot got inb cotrol is where thew match picked up . WInner Chris Beniot. MAtch Rating 6.5/10.

3. Zach Gowan vs. Matt Hardy- This was a different type of match. Now i am not one to bag on zach goawn but this result was redicioulds.first off i htink hardy should have come out on top in this match. Second offf opne thing good i would say was they kept this match 6 minutes. I will cut this in half but i did not enjoy this match. Winner Zach Gowan. Match Rating 5/10.

4. The basham brothers vs. The apa- this was an up and down match. The up part was i really liked the bashams as a tag team and they looked good here. Second was that io think the apa really stepped it up and i think the should not always lose as i see that they ussulay do. They bad part about this match was u knew we were in trouble when the bashams camne out to absoulte silence. Not horriable but not great. WInners the basham brothers. Match Rating 6/10.

5. Vince McMahon vs. Stephine in an i quit match- Alright now this was a differtent match. There were so many things right and so many things wrond. First off i liked how this match was built up with a good storyline. I did not like the part of the match wrestling wise but it achived it purpose by having it no dq. Not that bad of a match. Winner Mr. McMhaon. Match Rating 6.5/10.

6. Kurt Angle vs. John Cena- This was a good match and in my opioion this was the second best match of the night. I would say that this is tied with alot of there matches in there series which are always behind the no way out 2005 in kurts home town. Given the right amount of time at 18 miutes and not only did angle carrie this match i also felt that cena stepped it up and i caould c cena going face from here. Not the best ending but i would say this is good. WInner kurt angle. Match Rating 7.5/10.

7. Eddie Guerrero vs. The big Show for the us title- Nice 11 minute match of big man vs. small man action. I think that this match had a nice flow to it and it was one of big shows btter matches. NBot to say that this was awsome but it was above average. WInner and new wwe us champ the big show. Match Rating 6.5/10.

8. Brock Lesner vs. Undertaker in a bikers chain match for the wwe title- This wa a nice main event. This was not there best match together like there hell in a cell match a few years ago but it did beat out there unforgiven match. Not that bad not a blooody nmatch by any means but some niuce spots were taker tombstones lesner on the stpes and other nice action., Decnt main event. Winner and still wwe champ brock lesner. Match Rating 8/10.

Well that raps up antoher. I would give no mercy 2003 a grade of 53/80 which is a 66% which means this means is a good ppv. If u can tell me if my review was helpful or not i would appreicate that. Thanks for your time.

Movie Review: Why Only Three Stars?...Read and Find Out
Summary: 3 Stars

Here we go, guys. WWE No Mercy 2003, Smackdown's second exclusive pay-per-view. To sum it up, it was better than Vengeance...and yet, somehow worse. It's like the WWE has totally changed from what it was in July. You could watch Vengeance and then No Mercy and just be really surprised.
This happens in Baltimore with a pretty good crowd.

CRUISERWEIGHT TITLE: Tajiri(c) vs. Rey Mysterio
-Like the smart man he is, Mysterio has a strategy going to take out Tajiri's lower body. But Tajiri still gets plenty of offense in, making this one of the best cruiserweight matches I've ever seen. The only problem, with Tajiri's ridiculous heel turn, was the ending. His buddies from Japan, who are soon to wrestle at his side, interfere to get him the win. Michael Cole and Tazz pretend to mistake them for crazy fans. Stupid. 7/10.

A-Train vs. Chris Benoit
-A little slow. After all, A-Train's involved, and Benoit is a solid technical competitor but doesn't necessarily light up the crowd. At least he wins, though barely. 5/10.

Zach Gowen vs. Matt Hardy w/Shannon Moore
-This match was kind of a joke, but the truth is I admire Zach for his one-legged efforts, as well as Hardy's willingness to put over a one-legged wrestler. Would you? Still, if you want to see Zach, buy Vengeance. The fans were really into him then. 4/10.

A.P.A. vs. Basham Brothers
-Typical tag match, except for the Bashams' manager Shaniqua interfering with a bat to clinch their screwy victory. 5/10.

FATHER-DAUGTER I-QUIT MATCH: Stephanie McMahon w/Linda McMahon vs. Vince McMahon w/Sable
-O...M...G. And not in the good way, either. A crazy, old, roided, middle-aged boss vs. his daughter. Ridiculous concept from the beginning. Stupid buildup. The lame commentary made it totally obvious what the booking was. Linda throws the towel in to save Stephanie from her father. Some advice for both competitors. Stephanie, drop the implants and start your own wrestling corporation. Vince, drop the 'roids and quit with the dysfunctional family thing. They ran that horse into the ground three and a half years ago. By now it must be in the center of the earth somewhere. 3/10.

John Cena vs. Kurt Angle
-A really good match. Thank God Cena doesn't win. He doesn't deserve to beat Angle, and it was hilarious to see Kurt make fun of his gimmick. 8/10.

U.S. TITLE: Big Show vs. Eddie Guerrero(c)
-Big Show isn't any more talented, and he's also getting out of shape. But he still deserved this victory, so it's one of his better matches. Eddie is seriously hurt even before it starts. 7/10.

WWE TITLE/BIKER CHAIN MATCH: Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar(c)
-I wasn't sure about this one at first, but now that I've seen it, it was GREAT. Awesome finishing moves. Undertaker had it won, but Vince McMahon shows his old, roided self once again, which is the only reason Brock gets the chain and retains the title. Shame, shame. 8/10.

Don't get me wrong--this is a good show. But between it and Vengeance, I'd probably recommend Vengeance. No Mercy had too much of some wrestling elements and not enough of others. Vengeance was balanced and never failed to impress. Still, if you're looking for a solid addition to your DVDs (I settled with VHS), this may do the trick. But read all the reviews first and then see what you think.

Movie Review: BIKER CHAINS, HANDICAP WRESTLERS, AND FAMILY FIGHTING IN ONE NIGHT
Summary: 3 Stars

Crusierweight Champion Tajiri vs. Rey Mysterio - This was back when there was actual focus on the crusierweight division as these two were allowed to go out there & have a great match with plenty of time to execute.

Chris Benoit vs. A-Train - You know your bad when you have a BORING match with Chris Benoit & that was the case here. I'll be honest & say I fast foward though this because A-Train does nothing for me in the ring.

Zach Gowen vs. Matt Hardy - This was the last SmackDown appearence of Matt Hardy for almost 2 years & the last appearence of Zach Gowen period. It's amazing the stuff Gowen can pull off with only one leg & Hardy had to really sell for this kid and the match was kept pretty short so it's watchable.

APA vs. Basham Brothers - This was one of the better APA bouts I can remember in recent memory as they matches up well with the new team of the Basham's. The ending resulted in the return of Shanquia with her chest "swelling" from the Closeline from Hell by Bradshaw.

I Quit Match: Vince McMahon vs. Stephanie McMahon - If you take one thing into concideration, this match isn't as bad as you think as it was revealed on the McMahon DVD was that Stephanie was getting married in less than a week from this match so they went light so she didn't have a bruse or scratch on her. This was a better "sports entertainment" match than a wrestling match.

Kurt Angle vs. John Cena - This was one of Cena's best showing in his entire career as he & Kurt always seem to work well with each other. This match & fued with what made the fans take to him more than ever to the point where he was turned babyface weeks later. Match of the night.

United States Champion Eddie Guerrero vs. Big Show - This match played to Eddie's weakness as he was selling the beating Show gave him on SmackDown so it was mostly a "david vs. goliath" type match with Show dominating for the most part until it was just too much for Eddie as Show won the U.S. Title. Check out the part in the end when he tried to put the belt on his wait to realize it's too small.

Biker's Chain Match: WWE Champion Brock Lesnar vs. Undertaker - Out of their 3 series of matches, I would say this was my least favorite. That doesn't mean it was bad but there's no way they're going to top Hell In The Cell last year and this just wasn't as good as their first encounter at Unforgiven last year. They do work well together & had a nice match between the two with them getting very physical (and I think even stiff at times) with spots such as the tombstone on the steps. The chain wasn't even a real factor in the match and the ending was to set up the match next month because Undertaker & Vince McMahon.

The DVD extras I can remember from this were Cena having a rap battle with a fan outside & the ending of SmackDown two weeks earlier when Eddie sprayed Big Show with raw sewage.

Overall, this was an average No Mercy with nothing really special standing out besides the Angle/Cena encounter so I would suggest this as a rental & judge for yourself.
