Movie Reviews of WWE Backlash 2002Movie Review: Mediocre PPV... If that even Summary: 2 Stars
First off, I attended this PPV, so maybe that was why it didn't seem that great. Just for the record, however, there is no way this will be the Pay-Per-View of the year. The matches were dull, and slow-paced. Here they are: Tajiri v.s. Billy Kidman **** This was a very good opening match and really made you think the rest of the show would be great to.Scott Hall v.s. Bradshaw * Terribly boring. The crowd was silent almost the whole match. Trish v.s. Jazz *** For a women's match it wasn't that bad. Jeff Hardy v.s. Brock Lesnar *** Brock made his debut against Jeff Hardy who is about half his size. Brock dominated the whole match. I don't even think jeff got one punch in. Kurt Angle v.s. Edge ***** Easily the best match on the card. It was action packed the whole way through, with tons of false finishes along the way. This is probably the only match worth watching on the card. Rob Van Dam v.s. Eddie Guerrero *** A decent match. RVD can always entertain, although Eddie Guerrero came up a little short. Stone Cold v.s. Undertaker w/ special guest referee ric flair * This match could have received two stars, except it was supposed to be a main event. The whole match was slow moving, and Flair has to be the worst referee ever. Being there, you couldn't tell austin's foot was on the ropes, so the ending was really really bad. This match seemed like an elongated Smackdown contest. Billy & Chuck v.s. Maven and Al Snow * This match was shorter than the women's match, and should have been on Heat. Hulk Hogan v.s. Triple H * Triple H's entrance was the high spot of the match. That's how bad it was. The first 10 minutes was an arm wrestling contest, then they did 5 minutes of lockups, then Hulk suplexed HHH, then HHH beat up on Hulks leg for 10 minutes, and then there was some interference and the match was over. I have no idea how people can say this match was "great". Just because Hulk Hogan is in it does not make it "unbelievable." If Kurt Angle and The Rock wrestled the same match that HHH and Hogan did, people would think it sucked. Hulk Hogan is just about 15 years passed his prime.
Movie Review: Totally Unimpressive PPV Summary: 2 Stars
I was in attendance at this show and I couldn't believe I spent my money on this! Three good matches do not make a good PPV.
1. Tajiri def. Billy Kidman 4.5/5
Excellent opener that really had the crowd warmed up. Another example of how good cruiserweights can be.
2. Scott Hall def. Bradshaw 0.5/5
Any momentum the show had from the opener was lost with this snoozer. Should have been an early sign to McMahon that NOBODY cares about Bradshaw.
3. Jazz def. Trish Stratus 2.5/5
Decent women's match with Trish selling a pre-match back injury at the hands of Molly Holly.
4. Brock Lesnar def. Jeff Hardy 2.5/5
The Next Big Thing's PPV debut did what it set out to accomplish, make Lesnar look dominating. Some guy sitting behind me actually thought Hardy had a chance of winning. WOW!
5. Kurt Angle def. Edge 5/5
This was easily the best match of the night and ended up as one of the best of 2002. The back and forth action, false finishes, and hot crowd made this a forgotten classic.
6. Eddie Guerrero def. Rob Van Dam 4/5
Another great match. These two men are true in ring artists, but I feel they could have done more.
7. Undertaker def. Stone Cold Steve Austin Ref. Ric Flair 0/5
This was the worst match I had ever seen in person in my life! Slow pace, dead crowd and a predictable finish. This match isn't worth wasting your time to watch.
8. Billy & Chuck def. Al Snow & Maven 1.5/5
This match had no purpose on PPV to begin with. Match did not deliver anything.
9. Hollywood Hulk Hogan def. Triple H 1.5/5
For a PPV main event this was a dud. Hogan gets yet another run with the belt while more deserving performers get pushed aside.
Buy this DVD for Tajiri/Kidman, Guerrero/RVD, and the classic Angle/Edge match. The rest of this show deserves to be forgotten.
Movie Review: Saddest moment in wrestling history on a One Match card Summary: 2 Stars
This pay per view is not worth buying. I sat first row ringside live at this event which made it fun, but it was not that great from a wrestling stand point. tajiri vs kidman was a good solid match, but it isn't anything better than their matches that they have been having on raw that you can watch for free. RVD vs Eddie gurrerro, RVD didn't bring his A game with him to kansas city, if you want to see these two collide buy the judgement day 2002 dvd Kurt Angle vs Edge was an excellent match, it was better than their "hair vs hair match" at judgement day, it was very entertaining and the only match that makes this dvd worth buying. Broc Lesner vs Jeff Hardy, horrible match, a complete squash using the same 3 moves that Broc has done in all his matches on raw. Other matches not really worth mentioning include trish vs jazz bradshaw vs scott hall al snow and maven vs chuck and billy stone cold vs the undertaker all these matches were bad, pointless, sloppy and are not even worth talking about. and then it happened........ THE SADDEST MOMENT IN WRESTLING HISTORY a 50 year old Hulk Hogan beats HHH for the world title, the only lower point in the history of wrestling that i can think of is David Arquette winning the wcw title. This was the move that caused WWF/WWE television programs to fall to all time low ratings and nearly caused the wwf to go bankrupt. it is an insult to wrestling and wrestling fans. If you want to see Hulk hogan, shame on you, if you insist on watching him get wrestlemania 5 on vhs. If the wwf / wwe doesn't get their act together they are going to go out of business when kurt angle leaves to train for the 2004 olympics. Right now he is the only thing that they have going. And if you but this dvd buy it only for the Angle vs Edge match.
Movie Review: Backlash 2002 Summary: 2 Stars
Big Show VS Stevie Richards & Justin Credible: This was the extra match from Heat. Nothing really to say but a total squash.
Crusierweight Champion Billy Kidman VS Tajiri: An excellent way to kick off the PPV. I enjoyed this match and the ending looked cool with Tajiri winning the title.
Scott Hall VS Bradshaw: Could have been a classic but Hall is way past his prime. APA reunites before the match as X-Pac is at ringside with Hall and gets in a few shots during the match. Faarooq came to even things out but didnt help. Hall wins with a low blow and a roll-up in a bad match.
Woman's Champion Jazz VS Trish Stratus: I saw the last few minutes and it wasn't bad but not enough to make me watch more women wrestling.
Brock Lesnar VS Jeff Hardy: Hardy gets his offense in but Lesnar was still an unstoppable force. Not really much else I can say.
Edge VS Kurt Angle: A great match.
IC Champion RVD VS Eddie Guerrero: I enjoyed this match, these two had great matches against one anther.
Steve Austin VS Undertaker: Ric Flair was guest ref. I agree this match was plain boring and Flair cost Austin a shot at the title in the end. When Coach shows Flair that Austin's foot was on the bottom rope, his reaction describes this match.
Billy & Chuck VS Maven and Al Snow: A bathroom break
Hulk Hogan VS Triple H: A typical Hogan match even though he did wrestle a good match. Hogan captures the world title with help from The Undertaker.
While the cover says World Wrestling Entertainment, everything on the dvd is WWF.
Overall, not the best PPV. The opening contest was solid as was Guerrero/RVD and Edge/Angle. I'd skip this PPV.
Movie Review: Hogan [stinks] Summary: 2 Stars
This p.p.v was terrible. THe main event was terrible. I hate seein the wwe making hHh job to the likes of an over the hill hogan. The card on a whole wasnt terrible but the main event was such a dissapointment it makes the whole p.p.v just [smell]. There were a couple of good matches such as kidman vs. tajiri, edge vs. angle and rvd vs. guerreo. I wuld recomend buying though b/c of those 3 matches. If you want a great all around card go to shopzone and buy judgment day 2002. This was awesome especially the hell in a cell between y2j and hHh.
