Movie Reviews of VolverMovie Review: Splendidly intelligent Summary: 5 Stars
With a first-rate all-female cast, director Pedro Almodovar has deliverd a mesmerizing film replete with intrigue and humor. Leading the cast is Penelope Cruz as the domineering Raimunda...a woman who is not below burying her dead husband before the police can ever ask questions. Equally good as Irene, Raimunda's mother, is Carmen Maura, whose facial expressions give us some of the most wonderful moments of "Volver". No American director that I can think of can get into the psyche like Almodovar. Each of his characters show pathos and love to a depth that keeps your eyes fixed on the screen. "Volver" is not to be missed.
Movie Review: VOLVER Summary: 5 Stars
A wonderful film, well presented on disc with excelent commantary track and worthwhile extras. It goes well with the VIVA ALMODOVAR set I bought on Ameazon Marketplace after I had purchased VOLVER. I got this set after much dleiberation. I'd already bought three of the movies on the 8 disc set and I had one on laser disc, but I still wanted the others, which are not avaialble singly. But the $90 price tag was too steep. so, I waited, and got a new set for 44 bucks on the Marketplace. It's great to have as many movies by this great director as I can.
Movie Review: VOLVER is spectacular Summary: 5 Stars
Penélope Cruz is outstanding in this film; her co-stars are all first rate as well. Carmen Maura is a wonderful actress who works so well with Cruz.
There are lots of surprises along the way. There are many funny moments as well as intensely dramatic scenes. All are very well acted. Penélope sings the tango "Volver" in the style of a Spanish "copla" with guitar accompaniment; it is truly wonderful.
This is a film that I will watch again and again. ¡VOLVER!
Movie Review: This was a good, a worthwhile movie. Summary: 5 Stars
Penelope Cruz was enticing, vulnerable, coquettish and demanding all at the same time. She was a pleasure to watch as the story evolved, and finally came full circle. The initial feeling that we are watching some sort of ghost story, with the two sisters their mother, and a daughter, and its evolution into a murder mystery, and then a family tragedy, was done very well, and the ending wrapped up everything, and they all got what they deserved.
This was a good, a worthwhile movie.
Movie Review: Back from the dead Summary: 5 Stars
We're talking about a GREAT movie here! The title of my review applies to both the movie and the director. Starting by saying that I'm an Almodóvar fan, the king of spanish cinema really went under with his last production (The Bad Education), which you could miss and world cinema history would not suffer. He's back with this GREAT (again!) movie. If you miss this one, you'll be really missing something spectacular. I'm so glad Almodóvar is back doing great cinema.
