Back in the late 90s I had the chance to watch the VHS release of this production, which came with digital PCM audio. Even though the image quality was poor, the audio definition was quite outstanding. This release however is poor both in image and audio definition. The performances are passionate and skilfull as you may expect from Guidon Kremer, but a lot of it simply gets lost in the dull sound. Note that I am using top of line 5.1 equipment to play this DVD. Not exactly the best Deutche Grammophon release.
