Movie Reviews of Visions of GreeceMovie Review: Just one thing could have made it even better! Summary: 5 StarsI thought this DVD was wonderful. The photography was top-notch and the beauty of Greece was so evident. I would like to point out that the whole program is shown from the perspective of one up in the sky; it is photographed from a helicopter. That made for some very grand shots, sweeping over the water and the islands. However, I would like to have seen some photography from the ground included; after all, that is the way most of us visit Greece, isn't it? Otherwise, I can't say enough about the quality of this DVD.
Movie Review: Feel like a bird over beautiful Greece. Summary: 5 StarsWhen I recently visited Greece, and in particular the island of Tinos, which like most Cycladic islands, is mountainous, I wished to be one of the doves that fly in and out of the valleys and ravines. Watching this video is the next best thing. You can barely tell that you are in a helicopter. The scenes are mesmerizing, the photography grand. Though in the air, you can see amazing detail. From modern Athens, to ancient ruins, to cities in the mountainous north (like Kavala), to the white-washed "stacked" houses on the Cycladic islands - by the end of "Visions of Greece," you're awed by the rich and varied landscape of this relatively small country. The blue-ness of the Aegean sea is so attractive and inviting. Seeing ancient ruins from the air gives a whole new appreciation of the scale and complexity of these classic Greek remenants. This production is a must see, whether you have already visited Greece or not - and especially if you are planning to. It could well help you make your itinerary (but, you may end up wanting to be there an extra week).
This video is to enjoy the scenery, abstractly. If you are looking for a narrated, guided tour of Greece, this will not help. One part is somewhat narrated, the rest is to background music.
Movie Review: video of visions of greece review Summary: 5 StarsThe narration is very clear and the photography is outstanding. If considering a trip to greece i whole heartedly advise a purchase of this video.
Movie Review: A Very Helpful Tool For A Vacation In Greece Summary: 5 StarsThis video, "Visions Of Greece" is a great introduction to the country of Greece. I previously purchased "Visions Of Italy" prior to a vacation in Italy. It too gave a great introduction to the country, and an idea of what to expect the country to look like. I am travelling to Greece in April 2007 and "Visions Of Greece" should work just as well, I'm sure as a introduction the Greece. Excellent aerial photograhpy.
Movie Review: The Beauty of Greece Summary: 5 StarsAerial views transport you to another world where the sapphire blue of the Aegean sea is hypnotizing in beauty. The ever-changing rugged beauty of the landscape keeps you highly entertained as you view castles perched atop beautiful mountains and sailboats skimming through liquid playgrounds. Densely populated areas contrast with sparsely populated lands where horses run wild through the marshlands. Lushly forested gorges contrast with the barren snow dusted mountains.
Limestone pillars rise unexpectedly from the landscape and one monastery looks like it is glued to the side of the mountain in such a way that it is almost part of the mountain. Perhaps the most intriguing part of viewing this DVD is the sections where they show the monasteries. These sanctuaries are nestled far above the daily humdrum of life and look like places of beauty and comfort.
The DVD begins in the morning and seems to progress throughout a day. At first you see sun drenched landscapes that appear to be completely devoid of human interactions. Perhaps so early in the morning, everyone is still asleep. Then as the day progresses you see people wandering around historical sites or playing at beaches. As sunset turns the waves silvery pink, night falls and you may feel a sense of nostalgia for something intangible. People from the cities gather to watch the sunset and there is a strong sense of community and appreciation for what truly matters in life.
There are two main sections. One is narrated; the other can just be enjoyed for the beauty of the islands. If you are looking for specific travel destinations or to explore ruins, you will only see the land from an aerial view without any detailed information about various locations. The Acropolis is shown as well as many restored temples. What is very interesting is the vastness of the area being explored and the ways in which people live.
This was fun to watch while I was making Greek Chicken-Lemon Soup. Good thing I had purchased some Greek Oregano - the difference in the taste is enlightening. The one thing you won't find on this DVD is Greek Cooking and that is one very good reason to visit Greece!
