Movie Review: Charming British Comedy
Summary: 5 Stars
Set in Florence, Italy, circa the Plague, this charming period comedy is a light-hearted romp. The heroine, Pampenea (played by the gorgeous Mischa Barton), bethrothed to a Russian Count--on his way to Florence, is coerced into an engagement with the most hated, despicable man in Florence. She is led to believe that her dead father was indebted to "Ratta" and that she was promised to him. She escapes Florence ostensbily to await her Russian Count, and discovers an attractive young man, Lorenzo, hiding along the way at a convent, also fleeing from Ratta.
The title "Virgin Territory" refers both to the convent and Pampanea and her friends, all of whom are horny "virgins". The film is narrated by a former painter, masquerading as a Priest. It is delightfully funny and upbeat. The twists and turns between all the lovers and their identities is somewhat like "Midsummer Night's Dream".
Lorenzo is played by Hayden Christensen. All the actors are attractive and skilled. If you are looikng for a light, happy movie which leaves a smile on your face, this is it. Enjoy!
