Movie Reviews of Victory at Sea

Movie Review: This is the one we have waited for.
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been watching Victory at Sea since I was a kid. I seldom missed an episode when it was shown. Over the years I have taped the series two or three times but never got it complete. I have bought crummy VCR tapes. Worst of all I bought the A&E piece of junk. What an expensive rip off that is. Finally we have this one (Studio: Digital 1 Stop DVD Release Date: July 12, 2005 Run Time: 780 ASIN: B000A2XC7Q) BUY IT if you like Victory at Sea. The picture is very good and the music and narration are like you remember it. I don't think it has been remastered but that is a plus after being suckered into buying that A&E piece of crap.
As far as I can see it is complete and each episode is 26 minutes long.

Movie Review: Victory at Sea-DVD
Summary: 5 Stars

Well familiar with the series. Also own on VHS. This DVD played in a 1080p upconverting DVD player looks very clean and crisp relative to the VHS copy. Viewers should maintain proper perspective when assessing the video quality in that the vast majority of the source films were produced during the late 1930s and early 1940s by combat camera personnel from various military organizations worldwide. Considering that fact, this DVD is excellent. Regarding the content of the program, the DVD includes all original episodes from the VAS series; without editing. A worthy addition to the video library of any WWII or Naval Warfare history buff.

Movie Review: The best WW2 Naval Documentary
Summary: 5 Stars

Before you watch movies like Pearl harbor, midway, or any of the other hollywood naval epic flicks, view this outstanding 26 part series that was out in 1952 and 1953. It shows the actual events compiled from 13,000 hours of film shot by all the antagonists of world war two. A bit grainy, the sound is at times not the best, but this is real naval war archival footage filmed by all the players. A must for history buffs or those that desire to see history, not just read somebodys version of it.

Movie Review: "And now" The Drama of World War II at Sea
Summary: 5 Stars

The drama of World War II at sea with the NBC symphony orchestra and narration written by journalists. Only mishap is the D-Day episode where the chapters seem to have been reversed: they show the cement Mulberry docks being destroyed by storm and then show the actual D-Day landings.

I don't know why a reviewer complained the 26-part series is abridged. Each "half-hour" espisode is about 26 minutes. I presume the missing 4 minutes are the commercials.

Movie Review: THE BEST WORLD WAR 11 SET EVER
Summary: 5 Stars

THIS WILL WOW ALL THE WORLD WAR 11 BUFFS AND THE HISTORIANS ALIKE. I BOUGHT THIS FOR MY HUSBAND ON HIS BIRTHDAY. HE WANTED IT SO BAD. HE WAS 8 years OLD AT THE TIME AND HE WANTED THE MEMOTIES BACK. HE ALREADY HAD THE MUSIC, BUT WHEN I WAS ABLE TO GET HIM THE ACTUAL SERIES HE ALMOST CRIED. SO FOOTBALL AND THEN ONE OF THE DISCS GOES IN. WHAT A DELIGHT TO SEE HIS FACE.
GREAT DOCUMENTARIES AND NARRATED AS WELL, YOU WON'T BE LET DOWN ON THIS SERIES.
