VERONICA GUERIN is a movie based on the true life story of Veronica Guerin, a journalist who was out to expose the drug lords in Dublin. Cate Blanchett is perfectly cast in this role, she researched it well and she plays it with sensitivity. The movie does not paint the title character as a perfect person, in fact you see a lot of the flaws in the character, but her motives are always apparant and drawn out well. She was a fearless woman in search of the truth at any cost, which ended up taking her life. Overall it was a nice documentary type movie, with enough excitement to keep you interested from start to finish. I thought the pacing was wonderful, and Joel Schumacher did a great job as director. The movie didn't do too well at the theatres, but give it a chance, it's a movie well worth it's length in time.Movie Review: Wow

Veronica Guerin's movie is the best of the very best movies I have seen so far and for about 15 years I have watched at least two movies a day.Don't forget that heroes such as her do not exist not even in the imagination of the greatest writers. In other words this is a true story of an enthusiastic Irish journalist who wages war on drug dealers and she wins but unfortunately only after she gets murdered. Her murder inspires the Irish government to change the laws that favoured the criminals and put all those responsible for her death behind the bars - where they belonged.
But the saddest part of Veronica's life (movie) is that she couldn't see that happening while she was alive. If she did, perhaps her son would have not been an orphan.
A MUST SEE MOVIE...highly recommended

An old horse trainer once told me "The hardest thing is to find out what the right thing is, but when you find out what that right thing is, the hardest thing is not to do it." This is a moving portrayal center-pinned around a headstrong Irish female journalist who refused to back down from her mission of exposing Ireland's corrupt drug underground in the mid 1990's. A pleasing departure from stereotyped casting - setting is well done and character treatment is deeply explored! The characters in Veronica Guerin are complex and ring truer to life than one might expect. Veronica Guerin is nobly portrayed. Based on a true story Veronica Guerin will hold your attention and grab your heart from the first. Cate Blanchett is beyond words as she plays the part of reporter Veronica Guerin, the only thing that was lacking in this movie was the small part of Paudge Behan, he should have been cast in one of the leading roles, he is so good and yet so under appreciated. I wish more directors would take notice of his broad range of abilites and cast him more, they are truly missing out. A source I just scanned claims this movie only grossed 9.4-million dollars world-wide. That means many have missed perhaps Cate Blanchett's finest performance--and that says a great deal.
I am sure the movie takes liberty with the actual events. What movie does not?
If you like Blanchett--and how can one not like her?--you will love this movie.
Blanchett does not "carry" the movie. Blanchett "is" the movie. She really is that good in this movie.
