Movie Reviews of Valdez is Coming

Movie Review: " ... AND WE HAVE LOST 5 MORE MEN ..."
Summary: 5 Stars

"He can shoot ... and he knows when to move" (the segundo)

Seeing this movie for the first time on the old TNT Western Theatre back in the early 1990s, don't know why I waited this long to enter a review. Also, I know nothing of altered or cut scenes from this movie, the Sharps rifle shoot has always been in whatever version I have viewed.

Former frontier sheriff, Roberto Valdez is an object of laughter and a person to be ignored, when he only seeks justice and money for the injured innocent. So when Bob Valdez, ex-Army Apache hunter--before he knew better--comes back, "they were still laughing ..., and then they began to die.

Based on the 1970 Elmore Leonard book of the same title, this film has to be one of the best, top five films, one can count with the fingers of one hand. No matter how many times it is viewed, the film continues to draw the viewer into its resonating story.

"I should have killed you three days ago."

"or gone to Nogales."

"or paid the $100 dollars."

Few western stories match, let alone surpass, this classic film.

Semper Fi.

Movie Review: Mythology of the Aging Western Hero
Summary: 5 Stars

With the frontier vanishing and the days of rough justice for the bank robbers, cattle rustlers and hired gunmen all but gone emerges Burt Lancaster as Bob Valdez for one last stand against those who would challenge the sanctity of righteousness, the basis of law. This film is a brilliant study methodically told about an aging Mexican-American lawman that will not be deterred on bringing a self-righteous land baron to justice. Lancaster breaks his own acting mold with his ultra stoic performance of the dedicated Valdez, a man who doesn't stop coming. The forgotten and brilliant actor Frank Silvera plays his self-sacrificing friend Diego who will do almost anything to help him in his quest. This film examines the limits of duty, loyalty and friendship. Is the fight worth fighting to the end? Richard Jordan, Hector Elizondo and Susan Clark all have well scripted and defined roles.

Movie Review: Vladez to Tanner: Senor Tanner...that gun in your holster..you shoot me.
Summary: 5 Stars

Tanner: Next time. Valdez: NO

You can see exactly what Tanner is thinking. 'This man just killed 11 men in 3 days and without a shadow of a doubt he'll sure as Hell put a bullet in me'. Segundo, Tanner's hired henchman, knows this as well and at this point is relishing watching Tanner squirm in total humiliation.
The old saying, don't ever judge a book by its cover, is represented in spades by Burts character, Bob Valdez.

Must see movie for anyone who enjoys a rousing revenge movie with a twist in the end.

Movie Review: Lancaster at his Best
Summary: 5 Stars

This almost has the flavor of the later versions of spaghetti westerns. The environment is hot dessert and dusty. Love snow so this always impresses me. The character of Valdez appeals to me because of a portrayal of steadfastness and a man of principal and rock hard sense of justice. Lancaster's image of an aging wise cowboy caught my fancy years and years ago when I first saw this film. I bought it in VHS and then later the DVD.

Movie Review: the price of a mans life for what its worth
Summary: 5 Stars

A man, Valdez, kills a man in self defense though the man was falsely accused. Guilt, remorse, the only way he can make amends is get some money for the widow from the man he knows to be responsible for this tragedy. Easier said than done, as Valdez is determined to do. Lots of shoot'em up, machismo, bravado, you name it. One of my favorites. Burt Lancaster is "the man" VALDEZ!!
