Movie Reviews of V for Vendetta [Blu-ray]

Movie Review: Pick your side, we're at war
Summary: 5 Stars

I'll start off by saying that I adore this film. Short and sweet. Now my response to those who consider it vapid, one-sided, immoral, destructive, ignorant, etc. Anybody who looks at this film as V simply capturing and torturing Evey and then blowing up the English building of Parliament in an act of torture is an absolute dullard. I really cannot grasp how unbelievably one-minded and conservative one can be. To not be able to understand that the destructive qualities of a corrupt totalitarian government hiding under the guise of moral principals (and if you can't see how this is painfully reflective of the views of many people today) is unacceptable. You can attack me and my point of view, but dear god it's absolutely criminal. To use the excuse of morality to battle such things as homosexuality and equality of classes (this ain't socialism kids, it's basic human decency - people will never be equal in class and wealth, but to refuse equality of those classes otherwise is inhuman) simply proves the hypocrisy of all those who do just that. If you don't have the mental capability to look past simply watching the surface of this film, you should stick to Disney (and some of that may be too much for you then). The bipartisan divide in these United States has gotten to a point where compromise is impossible because both sides refuse to accept the other has a good point... EVEN WHEN IT'S THEIR OWN POINT. But in our own politics, there is so much more beyond just the surface that the majority of our country ignores and just skims on the top without delving deeper and actually forming their own opinion, and my guess is if you agreed with the negative reviews as I have pointed out, than you are a part of that majority. Like I said, go ahead and argue with me if you'd like, but I'll bet dimes to dollars you'll probably find yourself comfortably in the majority of simple-minded, surface dwelling, opinion-absorbing, morally-dead people that are slowly destroying the world. You can call me ignorant, morally corrupt, and even a f** (and once again, if you do, you're what's wrong with the world), but I can assure you, you're the reason why the world is collapsing in on itself.

I apologize for all of the blatant accusations and attacks. I never said I was hypocritical in my actions either, but I don't believe in forgiveness when those who preach such a thing, refuses to not only forgive but accept. Accept that the world is incredibly diverse and that the human mind is even more so. This film shows how a world where this isn't so is a destructive world. Forget anyone claiming it has a "one-sided anti-Christian" or "anti-government" or "pro-gay pro-torture" agenda. They're as one-tracked in simple minded as can be. They also voted for Bush. To put it simply, if you're unable to think for yourself and create your own opinion based off of human morality (actual mortality, not the bible says gays are bad... if that's you, I'm sorry to say, you don't have any morals) and the reality of the nature of the world and those who inhabit it, don't watch this movie. You won't be able to grasp anything in this film. Hey, I may be wrong... but unless totalitarian control over the people and reckless abandonment of true human goodness are the way to go, I'm pretty sure I'm not. In all seriousness though, this is a fantastic film and I highly recommend it. Take everything I said with a grain of salt because baseless accusations and crude attacks against those you don't agree with aren't great either. But I believe the world can be a beautiful place, and this film provides a clear depiction of how not to go about things. Enjoy. b^_^d

Summary of V for Vendetta [Blu-ray]

V FOR VENDETTA - Blu-Ray Movie
"Remember, remember the fifth of November," for on this day, in 2020, the minds of the masses shall be set free. So says code-name V (Hugo Weaving), a man on a mission to shake society out of its blank complacent stares in the film V For Vendetta. His tactics, however, are a bit revolutionary to say the least. The world in which V lives is very similar to Orwell's totalitarian dystopia in 1984: after years of various wars, England is now under "big brother" Chancellor Adam Sutler (played by John Hurt, who ironically played Winston Smith in the movie 1984) whose party uses force and fear to run the nation. After gaining power, minorities and political dissenters were rounded up and removed; artistic and unacceptable religious works were confiscated. Cameras and microphones are littered throughout the land, and the people are perpetually sedated through the governmentally controlled media. Taking inspiration from Guy Fawkes, the 17th century co-conspirator of a failed attempt to blow up Parliament on November 5, 1605, V dons a Fawkes mask and costume and sets off to wake the masses by destroying the symbols of their oppressors, literally and figuratively. At the beginning of his vendetta, V rescues Evey (Natalie Portman) from a group of police officers and has her live with him in his underworld lair. It is through their relationship where we learn how V became V, the extremities of the party's corruption, the problems of an oppressive government, V's revenge plot and his philosophy on how to induce change.

Based on the popular graphic novel by Alan Moore, V For Vendetta's screenplay was written by the Wachowski Brothers (of The Matrix fame) and directed by their protégé, James McTeigue. Controversy and criticism followed the film since its inception, from the hyper-stylized use of anarchistic terrorism to overthrow a corrupt government and the blatant jabs at the current US political arena, to graphic novel fans complaining about the reconstruction of Alan Moore's original vision (Moore himself has dismissed the film). Many are valid critiques and opinions, but there's no hiding the message the film is trying to express: Radical and drastic events often need to occur in order to shake people out of their state of indifference in order to bring about real change. Unfortunately, the movie only offers a means with no ends, and those looking for answers may find the film stylish, but a bit empty. --Rob Bracco
